Okay, so BBTV was a bust-- you need a TV or another device that accepts video input for it to work... stupid me thought that you used your BBTV connection to view TV on your computer, kind of like how my roommate does. So I have this massive BBTV box which I cannot do anything with. Thankfully, my roommates said they'd call Yahoo tomorrow and find out what they could do.

Second is, someone on SMRFF suggested I try and get the SM episodes I'm missing via this website... which uses Sendspace, rather than their own domain/bandwidth, so of course, there aren't enough slots for me to download one episode, let alone 60 or more. I noticed they had an IRC server, so I made to get myself an IRC client for the Mac, but even the most simplistic one (made to look like iChat) doesn't seem to want to connect to irc.rizon.net (the server with a bazillion and a half channels) via ethernet OR wireless. So I don't know what to do. Maybe LimeWire, or Torrents, if I can find them. I'm pretty sure Sailormoon is no longer licensed in the U.S., but I don't know if that means VKLL's old subs will suddenly reappear or what. (If anyone knows where I can snag some, let me know!)

Also, if you think Japan is "land of the anime," you're not too far from the truth-- every grocery store, clothing store, etc. has anime in it-- well, sort of. Pretty Cure, Toei's latest magical girl series, is everywhere in some form or another, and the boys' equivalent ranges from Dragonball Z (most of the time) to the occasional One Piece. I have yet to see Yu-Gi-Oh *ANYWHERE* in great abundance. What I find baffling about Pretty Cure is that the new season is a spinoff-- called Pretty Cure Splash Star, and though the girls look and almost act exactly the same as their predecessors, they are a) from another universe, b) have different titles, powers, and mascots, and c) have no discernable relation to the original Pretty Cure seen in the first two seasons of the show. COLOR ME CONFUSED. Why not make the "new" Pretty Cure look different, rather than long-haired versions of the old Pretty Cure? And what HAPPENED to the old Pretty Cure, anyway?
I don't know anything about the series and have never watched it-- that's just what I've learned from looking at products. :P

In other news, WDKY25 is coming along-- I've got 2-3 scenes done already, with something like 3-4 left to go, if that. I think I'm having way too much fun with Bakura in this fic. If anyone is up for beta'ing (assuming I get it done this week), please let me know.

Blue Eyes and Apricots is back to functionality, I've noticed; before, for some strange reason, notification emails never made it to me about new members joining, and even when I checked the panel, it didn't list new members. I added several members manually, and since then, 3 members have joined and I've been notified. So we're nearly 450 members strong! The Fanart section is still gone though, because there doesn't seem to be a method I can think of for hosting the fanart short of doing a password-protected ML/email account or folder on the domain-- and even then, I know people will skim "the rules" and inevitably end up using the images in ways they shouldn't.

Today Holly and I went out toward Akatsuka; I ended up buying a new pair of hi-top Converse (even though what I *REALLY* need are new boots and ballet flats) that are so dorkalicious (dip-dyed rainbow colors!) that I'm a dweeb just for thinking about buying them (and worse for actually doing it). I also bought a new purple long-sleeved shirt (when can I resist?), the elusive Ginger for my Pumpkin Pie this week, and a few random things at the glory that is Daiso (the 100 yen store). But I'd say the best part of the day is how we went to this Italian restaurant called GROOVY.

I saw it, and Bruce Campbell's voice just came into my head. Over and over. It kept me grinning the whole time, even though I didn't understand the concept of "Set A plate" fully. I ended up getting chicken and tomato spaghetti, corn potage, and a salad with a rather funny-tasting dressing. I ate as much as I could, and felt no guilt about leaving leftovers. It was good, but the portions here are huge for me. Maybe moreso considering they don't do takeout!

Well, I better get to sleep so I can finish up my homework in the morning, have a decent breakfast, and spend Monday running around like a chicken with its head cut off (as I always do). Hopefully I'll get inspired enough to finish WDKY25 in one sitting!

Ow. Okay, so I had my first lesson in bike riding today. What, you didn't know Mer the Inept is not only Terrified of Driving (I'm sure there's a phobia name for that) but that she has also never successfully ridden a bike (since age 10 or so, and I hate to tell you, but you CAN forget if the incident is traumatic enough). But to get around here in Japan, it's either dish out a bunch of money for bus tickets, set aside a good few hours to walk, or... bike. Everyone else bikes, so why not me? I paid 500 yen for a bike registration, and today Kevin, Daisuke, and Todd teamed up to give me lessons.

And I think I improved a bit, even if I can't "ride" quite yet. Balance first! But because the bike is a small one rescued from the trash, it's not exactly in top quality. The handlebars are way too hard (I keep death-gripping them and giving myself bruises) and the seat... well, just read the subject line. MY ASS HURTS. But I'm glad I'm not a guy. :P Well, for just that one thing.

I want to meet these 5 other women. :D

This seems to be the season for Seto/Anzu fics! Yay! If I beat bribe my muse to get into high gear, I might even have the next chapter of WDKY in time for Kaiba's birthday. That'd be a dream come true, really-- because I keep thinking about is Ch26 and beyond. 25 is like a big hulking road block. But it's always good to get inspired by others- namely [livejournal.com profile] geniusgirl and the ever-eloquent [livejournal.com profile] atlantian_magic (expect a letter + omiyage from me soon! I haven't had time to get to the post office...).

Finally, FRUSTRATION! This whole Pages-is-like-Office-but-without-some-functionality pisses me off. I just want to print some freakin' labels! Pages doesn't do that, but Address Book does-- except they don't have the right label size (I'm trying to specify my own size, but it only asks for margins and gutters, rather than the damn label size! WTF!?). The FileMakerPro 8 trial is listed on my label's packaging, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to even get started. There's not a thing in the program labeled "Labels," and the Help file might as well be Greek. (One more reason to end up spending the $150 on Office for Mac. Yes, Scott tried to give it to me, but it didn't work. It might have been because I didn't know what I was doing -installing by just dragging and dropping!?-, but it also could have been that he didn't copy the CD properly.)

I want to add Turkmenistan to the list of countries in the Change Address Format submenu in Address Book, but there seems to be no documentation on that, either. So I've asked at the Apple forums to see if maybe there's some sort of plist fix I can do in OmniOutliner or somesuch. It's either that or... again, invest in MS Office. This is how they maintain the monopoly, I imagine -they stuff their suite so full of features that you don't realize how much you need it until it's gone, not in the "comparable" suite for Mac, or the program that can supposedly do it can't do it EXACTLY the right way you need-- when MS Office *CAN*.

I wanted to upload images from iPhoto to my Scrapbook, like I've been saying I'll do, but short of browsing EACH and every damn folder to find the right image, there's no way to export them directly. I got two programs that can supposedly do it -one standalone and one plugin- and so far, neither of them have worked. One couldn't even find iPhoto's albums, and the other is apparently not compatible with the latest iPhoto, version 6. There ARE no other options, because the Perl script has modules unavailable on OSX, and the other option is that rotten Windows XP Explorer add-in. I used jix.jar back on XP, and while rudimentary, it worked.

I also liked IrfanView, because I could batch rename and resize things. There is a Batch Change option in iPhoto, but only for Title, Date, and Keywords. And when I go into Constrain in the Edit function, it only lets me customize by inches-- and I can't find a way to change it to say, pixels, or even millimeters. What if I have a photo I want to upload to the web? Can't I resize it according to a maximum KB size?

Gah, this is annoying.

Squee!

Well, so we didn't have KFC like I was hoping for the ITR Helpdesk's end-of-summer/goodbye (to me for now) party, but the pizza isn't bad. It's veggie from Costco, and at least we have some cans of Coke. :) I wasn't really in the mood for pizza, so I'm just nibbling on it slowly.

I "won" a prize from a raffle we had-- I got a 2006 calendar of kittens... I guess I'll use it up, and then use the earlier months for posters or something. Maybe I can scrapbook with them, since they're a bit small.

PLUS... ^_^ One of my wonderfully nice co-workers hooked me up with Windows XP Pro with the staff/faculty discount (only $12), but he gave it to me AS A GIFT. WHOO! Big with the yay. The only thing that can make today better is if I get my financial aid check. (Please Goddess, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!)

Yesterday I got my Joytech 8" LCD Playstation 2 screen-- it mounted onto my slimline PS2 with ease (you only need a penny to screw the mounts into place). All you have to do is plug in the AC Adapter or included car adapter (alas! I probably won't be able to use it on a plane, unless there's a PS2 battery adapter or sockets on the plane), add your usual PS2 accessories (memory card, controller, game disk) and off you go! I played Katamari Damacy 2 (We <3 Katamari) for a few hours like that-- still a couple of "levels" I can't beat, but I'm having a blast trying.

I managed to get 2 boxes into my closet, and several of my books arranged on the top shelf, but they keep leaning on either side; I don't have bookends strong enough to support the weight of all my books. So pretty much, I've got to stack the shelf from end to end and find a way to make the left end not fall and cause a disaster. The rest of my room is still a mess, so I hope I can get that dealt with tonight. :D

For anyone curious or traveling soon, here's the complete list of things permitted and prohibited by the TSA on aircraft flying to/from the United States these days, regardless of origin/destination. The alert level from flights to/from the U.K. is still Severe/Red, but other flights are at High/Orange, and the general country alert remains at Elevated/Yellow.

Since I'm online, I wanna deal with as many mod-hand overs as I can; I'll be changing over the I Give Up!/I'm Finished page to the new [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses_mod account, emailing Svelte and DQBunny re: the Hall of Fame access, and any other similar things I can think of.

*yawn* So much to do... At least I finished WDKY24; it's up for beta-editing over at [livejournal.com profile] betasquad. Please give it a look see, or email me if you're interested. Super-major-gigante thanks to [livejournal.com profile] winterwing3000 for all the help with it; thanks to her brainstorm sessions with me, I was able to breeze through the missing scenes, and I got some great ideas for WDKY25, as well. :)

Saw "Snakes on a Plane" with Erin on Friday evening... even if I dropped out of the cult-following a few months ago, it was still fabulous fun, and I loved it. It was very much deserving of the R-rating, especially at the beginning of the movie, but it managed to be both suspenseful and unpredictable-- great, considering how many people judge the movie by its title (or its poster). And the band that won the fan contest to have their music video in the end credits-- that song was DAMN good! It's actually sort of stuck in my head! Erin said the band reminded her of the Black Eyed Peas.

What was fabulous was when EVERYONE in the theatre (and this was a big theatre, but not sold out by any means) -except Erin, who had no freaking clue what was going on- said The Line in unison "I've had it with these motherfuckin' snakes on this motherfuckin' plane!" Yes, even me. It was fab. Absolutely fab. And of course everyone started cheering afterward.

Spoilers, of course )

And now for something completely different...

I really would have thought that the damn "pink is for girls" concept would have DIED by now. First off, I, a self-respecting woman, HATE PINK. Especially cotton candy pink, Chibiusa pink, hot pink, or any derivative thereof. The closest I can come is maybe a deep rose color that I wear for blush or lip gloss. But then you have the freakin' PINK Razr. -_-; But hey, guys are wearing pink now... it looks weird to me, especially seeing ripped black guys wearing those AE pink polos, but whatever. Personally, I just don't like the color. But, to each their own.

Last night I got to cleaning my room, and of course I found tons of notes for fanfics, including WDKY. I had to go back and check to make sure that I'd made the changes I indicated on paper; I also had to add some "references" to the WDKY References page. Unfortunately I haven't been keeping up with the Changelog (the thing that I use to track all the updates I make to chapters, and what specific changes I make), but I can pretty much guess based on what I've added to the Reference log. I have random references in a lot of places, but at least I'm not Cassie Claire in this respect; I keep track of everything, and invent my own convoluted plot twists and references. I just wish there was a way to get Snakes on a Plane in there somehow. *snicker joke* Well anyway, I uploaded the new version of the References page to the old Darkness Rising (at some point, it will be under the new masthead of Epiphany, running eFiction 3.0), and later on tonight, I'll be updating Chapters 11 and 14 for some minor tweaks on all sites.

More fanfic-wise, I actually got inspired for a Sailor Moon fic. This kind of makes me feel better, considering how unsure I've been re: Only 16. Having a good idea (and getting started on it) would mean I have something to replace Only 16 in terms of Sailor Moon fics under my name; this would also be something dramatic and long, so it wouldn't feel like I'm shafting Only 16 into the oblivion (even though that's where it belongs). Actually, I thought of a way to combine this Very Good Idea with one that I wanted to do for [livejournal.com profile] sm_monthly (I never got past Chapter 1 of it, unfortunately, because WDKY has been keeping me on my toes; I don't want to get too distracted. I've already stopped reading the 200 days of Sailormoon posts at AFSM, and I'm backlogged by about 310 posts!). But I don't think I will, just because it would complicate things too much.

Finally, it looks like the next 2 people up for the Astrology, Blood Types, and Yu-Gi-Oh! feature on [livejournal.com profile] playthedamncard are...
* Ryou Bakura
* Katsuya Jounouchi
I'll try and get started on some of that now. Yesterday I bought myself the 2nd edition (2001) edition of Parker's Astrology, one of my favorite books on astrology. I've also been using Astrology Source to calculate things like midhavens/medium coeli, imum coeli, decantes, desendants, and other fun things. Takes all the hard calculating out of the game, so I can do more "character exploration." I have the book with me today at work (actually spent the first few hours of work reading it, because my phone was broken and I was on "standby"), and since all the old sites I used are on the previous posts, I shouldn't have any problem constructing Ryou's profile. I'll have to add things (like his Mystical Card number) later on, and I can always include new things each time-- numerology, tarot... ^_^ It's all related! Go ahead and read the last 2 posts on Yuugi Mutou and Seto Kaiba, and tell me what you think!

"If you really want to have a sex scene and yet don’t feel comfortable writing about it from the POV of any of the parties involved, there’s always another solution: write it from the head of someone outside the action entirely. And no, you don’t have to use a voyeur, either. Use a completely neutral party. I like the idea of the evil wizard’s spy-raven watching the hero and heroine thrashing on the grass below, knowing what they’re doing, but not really caring about anything other than the fact that these people aren’t quite dead enough for it to eat yet."

(emphasis mine, for contextual purposes of the following...)

...I blame [livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain for inadvertently conjuring the image of Harry and Hermione doing the thrashing while a non-existent spy-raven belonging to Voldemort spies on them.

I'm not even a H/Hr shipper! I mean they're cute and all, but D/Hr all the way for me! AWR, what have you done to my brain????

Did you know I have a few fics that are still LJ-only? One I posted... I think last Christmas (or maybe the Christmas before that?) for [livejournal.com profile] yuugiouxmasfic never made it to FFnet. *impish smile* But it is under "Azurite's Fanfiction" in my memories. And I still REALLY want to finish my claim for [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses, because I have so many "large" fragments of them (i.e. for "Girls' Club" and "Kaiba the Virgin Sacrifice", but gosh darn it, WDKY is priority! ;_; Won't anyone help me beta? Do I have to start calling in favors?)

Also found two new, rather interesting fics for Azureshippers by way of FFnet C2: silentshadow1's "Second Side," and Shinja-chan's "I am Kaiba Anzu." Like many other fics I've found via FFnet in some size, shape, or form, I'll be adding them to the BEA database eventually. I think I'm going to change the colors of the layout for Autumn, though. :}

And I have determined that the best way to really filter out ideas, figure out where you want to go with things, or beta a story is really through continuous communication. I happen to like IM the best, but email works fairly well too. I've been doing it one way or the other for a long time-- back when I was a n00b in the Sailormoon fandom, and I had onee-chans to help me through my plotbunnies. I don't do it so much anymore, and I *miss* it! Come on, whatever happened to the idea of mega-chat rooms, lengthy chat sessions, ridiculous room names, and the excitement over hearing that alert that you've got a new message? And isn't summer supposed to be the time when everyone (in the northern hemisphere) is online, bored or at least clicking away because they have nothing better to do? Exhibit B: T·L·C, by Azurite, first published 3/25/04, incomplete.

I found the former story in a C2 archive for Seto x Anzu that was recently nominated for inclusion at BEA. The summary sounded horribly familiar to me, especially with how Anzu got
a) a necklace
b) from Yuugi
c) and she wished to see Kaiba be nice
d) so she turned into a cute cat that vexed Kaiba and learned his deepest secrets
Now, I understand that the stories are different -it's not like I've been plagiarized word-for-word, and I know you can't really "own" a rudimentary fanfic idea, such as "Anzu turns into a cat and sees Kaiba in a new light." But... I did it first, and this looks like a complete rip-off of my idea! >_> Maybe I'm jumping the gun. Am I jumping the gun?

...This idea isn't original. It's MY idea, this person just mooched it off me.

AND DAMMIT, HER NAME IS Téa, not Tea, you lazy asswipes! Use the accent or use her Japanese name! She's not a caffeinated beverage!

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). So after watching episodes 35-39 of Sailor Moon yesterday, I am in need of some good "Redemption" fics. That is, Usagi x Dark Endymion. Any fics that take place in the latter part of Sailor Moon Season 1 (aka Sailor Moon Classic), where a heartbroken Usagi is trying to discover herself, her feelings toward Mamoru/Endymion, and her role as Princess. I'd like to see a Dark Endymion pull off suave but still evil, but be fascinated in Usagi enough to warrant saving her repeatedly, and nearly getting healed. Any recs?
azurite: (mars says let 'em burn)
Okay, so in light of me trying to find some semi-decent Sailor Moon classic fics, I have decided to peruse Alicia Blade's "First Love: Usagi and Mamoru Beginnings" C2 over at FFnet. First Love actually used to be a pretty massive fanfic archive; it moved around a lot, died, and then was finally reborn in the form of a pretty ambiguous C2.

For me, first impressions come from two major things: the title and the summary. The summary, of course, has much more weight than the title, but it can vary. So I've decided to give myself a bit of an exercise and ignore the title and summary as best as I can, and then just read THE FIRST LINE/PARAGRAPH of the story. If I like it, I'll keep reading. Who knows, maybe it'll be worth it. But you can help me judge.

To read or not to read, THAT is the question! )

God, is there such a thing as GOOD Sailor Moon fic anymore? No, let me revise that -good Sailor Moon fic, preferably from Classic (because that's the season I'm watching at the moment, therefore the season I want to read), and something I've never read before. Better if it's new, EVEN BETTER if it's finished.

Nominate stuff. Judge stuff. Give me the first line or first paragraph. And pass it on for your fandom.

Another insane idea that involves coding likely too complicated for my brain )

So between finishing reading Hearts of Ice (Ranma 1/2) and watching Sailor Moon classic for the 200 Days of Sailor Moon project (complete with dub comparisons courtesy of YouTube) AND my pre-existing plotbunny for Seiya x Usagi for [livejournal.com profile] sm_monthly, I have been STRUCK! yet again!

I've always been a fan of first season romances, but when I write, I just have more fun with SMR, because the break-up (obviously I'm talking anime-verse here, not manga or PGSM) and the time travel elements always appeal to me. So why not mix up a little bit of both? So here's the general gist:

For reasons as-yet-unknown, Usagi (from SMR at least, or Stars at most) goes back in time. How far back? Is it enough to prevent the other Senshi (save Venus) from being awakened? What about her knowledge that Mamoru will either break-up with her/blame their entire relationship on "destiny" rather than true love, or the fact that he will die for her? Usagi knows the truth: about Beryl, the Dark Kingdom, the Nijizuishou and the Ginzuishou... but will knowing save her? Usagi seems a different person, and the way she is determined to protect those she loves may cause an adverse ripple effect that no one is able to predict...

This sounds like something that has to have been done before though, so before I get giddy and try to write it, would someone be so kind as to point me in the direction of a fic that features Usagi time traveling to "fix" things? I don't know why I like this idea so much-- it's something that comes up in "Circle of Seven," definitely in "Time Sphere," that tentative FFX/2 fic I never wrote, and of course, in "Death and Absolution." I love time travel!

Random.

I tried to hold a contest in [livejournal.com profile] weekly_ygo for both the community's layout and WikiFic, but no one seemed interested... alas! Hopefully this contest, co-hosted with Apollymi and Katsuko of DarkMagic.Net and [livejournal.com profile] ygo_novella

Presenting the First Annual Yu-Gi-Oh Novella Contest!
It is almost exactly what it sounds like: a novella contest geared toward Yu-Gi-Oh fanfics, AUs included. You can check here for the shonen-ai/yaoi challenge, and here for the gen/het challenge.

All fics submitted must fit into one of two categories:
15,000 words minimum (short novella)
25,000 words minimum (long novella)

along with the "main" category of shonen-ai/yaoi or gen/het. (Technically, those are 4 categories, but because of the split between the judges, we're considering them two. You should still indicate WHICH of them your fic is... if your fic has smexy boy on boy action, it's yaoi. If it's simple fluff, it's shonen-ai. If there's no romance whatsoever, it's gen. And if it's between a boy and a girl, it's het. The het category is open to all ratings, G-NC17 or equivalent. There is no yuri/shoujo-ai category at this time.)

Apollymi and Katsuko will be judging the shonen-ai and yaoi categories, while Katsuko and I will judge the gen and the het. Readers/other participants will also have the chance to judge fics, as comments from reviewers ARE taken into account for the final judging process!

Please email either me or Apollymi if you intend on entering the contest!

I'm possibly biting off more than I can chew by claiming Seto x Anzu for [livejournal.com profile] 100_situations. But if I can, I'll see if I can cross some of these with my claim over on [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses, which is locked since I own the community. :D

Happy Birthday Shadowesque13!

Ugh, you know, I decided to randomly try my hand at some Gunslinger duels tonight in the YGO Online World lobby, and I figured with my new powerful deck (Warrior-Spellcaster, with a few bitchy effect monsters thrown in), I might even stand a chance. True, I did last longer in my duels, but one duel ended for no reason (as in, opponent DID NOT surrender, time DID NOT run out, etc. etc.) and the other duel, my opponent of unknown nationality (I thought Japanese, but maybe not. Could have been Chinese or Korean, because the other languages use the English alphabet set, and this guy's text kept coming up as ????) was SO FREAKIN' IMPATIENT! I mean, he was winning already, I don't see what the rush is. Really pissed me off.

Anyway, I need "Widespread Ruin" and/or "Nightmare Wheel," both traps. These cards got used against me (the former in repeated duels), and I must say, they are a bitch for getting your opponent's LP down. And since Warrior decks seem to be pretty cookie-cutter, maybe I ought to try for a Spirit deck, like I told Malakite while we were mining. I played against a guy with a Gravekeeper deck, and I must say, that's one kick-ass deck theme. I find that playing YGO!O inspires me for the upcoming duel scenes in WDKY, so at least I won't be pulling combos and decks out of my ass... these will be decks that have pwned me IRL. :D

I just finished adding a bunch of pages to WikiFic, all in the Pairings section. I'm far from done, and plenty of people gave me links for Threesomes and other-somes that I haven't made a template for yet. There's also the matter of 'ships that aren't official yet, or 'ships whose history is unknown. And I also need art! And then there's the REST of the encyclopedia... this is such a big project, but I've been working on it diligently, getting help here and there from new users, and so far it's turning out pretty good. I'm somewhat afraid to get a Spell Checker for the Wiki, since I have so many Japanese words, but we'll see. Better safe than sorry, eh?

Also, surprisingly good Pegasus-centric fic by SilvorMoon. It came as a rec for the Pegasus/Cyndia pairing for WikiFic, and it really is quite good. It'll definitely make you rethink Duelist Kingdom! :D I also re-read some of Quickening's Spiritshipping (or Revolutionshipping, but Yugi's such an imp in her fics that I figure it's more of a 3-way) and I remember why I first fell in love with Yu-Gi-Oh as a fandom, and Anzu as a female protagonist. Yes, back in the day, I was a Revolutionshipper! :O

And then I read [livejournal.com profile] geniusgirl's stuff and the rest is history. :P

In a few hours... the dream will end! Yu-Gi-Oh's final dub episode "Ceremonial Battle" conclusion airs on Kids WB at 11:30am!

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Watch It. Live It. Duel It.

Or something equally dorky. ("This isn't the end of my story. My story... is just beginning.") Even though I've seen it in the Japanese, I'm giddy with anticip.....ation!~

I think I'll catch up on Sailor Moon tomorrow, and do Episodes 13 and 14 in one shot. Now that I've fixed VLC player's settings for snapshots, if I do another flood, it won't take so long and need a recompiler. :)

Damn, I've got that DDR song stuck in my head. "Cafe, cafe, cafe cafe, cafe cafe cafe!" or something.

Okay, so a couple of new things:
(1) Seems I grossly misinterpreted what was going on with [livejournal.com profile] god_101 in terms of someone dying or whatnot. Of course I'm still extremely worried about him, but everyone handles break ups (as the case truly was, not someone dying like I thought) differently. If he wants to be open to the help that his friends are willing to give, then my offer still stands. But I won't put mental strain on myself taking blame for something I honestly have no control over.

(2) Okay, I'm making one giant exception to my own rule that I posted for the contest on [livejournal.com profile] weekly_ygo. In this week's issue (#20), I decided in lieu of an Editor's Choice, I'd hold two contests, one for a community layout/icons, and one for WikiFic. The deal is, whoever makes the community layout and icons will get a paid account (or extra time/userpics, whatever, if they already have a paid account) and whoever adds the most full-length, brand-new articles to WikiFic within the next week will get their very own unlimited subdomain on seventh-star.net (or, if they don't want a seventh-star.net subdomain, I will register a domain of their choice -that is currently available, of course- for two years and host a Yu-Gi-Oh fansite and related material). I thought this was a great idea, but no one commented on it AT ALL in the post. So this is the ONE place where I will pimp the contest, in the hopes that people simply spread it by word of mouth, comments in LJs, etc. I don't want anyone else MAKING POSTS about it, but everything else is fine, and I hope we get some participation. If you have any questions, see the latest issue or just ask me. :)

(3) Yuck, Jury Duty. And I can't get out of it, because it's the second time I've postponed it, and saying you're related to a lawyer, a socialist/communist, a student, too far away, don't have a car, don't have money to get there... none of it works. They see that I live a mere 9 miles away from the Van Nuys courthouse, and I get slammed with Jury Duty. Worse, one of my bosses said I can kiss Japan goodbye if I end up getting stuck in a trial that lasts months on end. I just hope I don't get called at all, but my Group number is *1* so what's the chance of that? *sigh* At least I'll be getting paid next week, and I found a decent, cheap bus schedule for getting there if I can't get a ride from Grandpa.

(4) Inspiration... for the wrong thing. I have ideas for almost all of my [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses, but getting them written out is another matter altogether. I've started most of the good ones, and unfortunately they have the potential to turn out to be long -sort of like how I didn't think about Prophecy Girl, Something to Somebody, and Death and Absolution would be multi-chapter whoppers, but THEY ARE! But if I do want this to be one of my [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses, I have to figure out how it could work for a theme that isn't taken, and not make it look like it's part of Prophcy Girl (because one particular scene -no dirty jokes involved, honest!- totally screams Prophecy Girl, and I don't want that). The only problem is, I only have 2 themes that don't have any ideas for them at all, and that's because they're the hardest themes for me: #17 - kilohertz, and #21: violence; pillage/plunder; extortion. This idea I *MIGHT* be able to make work for #21, but it would likely take a very different turn than I intended (and still be Prophecy Girl-esque because of it).

But the very beginning of the fic just makes me giddy because it's so evil. :> Well, in my mind, anyway.

Ah, should I say yesterday was successful and happy or not? How about you help me decide (I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure...)
(1) Hot as hell. No wind, fans don't seem to do much. Yuck.

(2) Wasn't tempted to buy anything at Best Buy! Yay! (I'm broke anyway, not-so-yay)

(3) Called my cousin Jill and talked to her for awhile- we're supposed to get together later today. Yay!

(4) Watched Yu-Gi-Oh GX (Can totally see Anzu kicking Dmitri's ass for trying to "be" Yugi) and had a good laugh

(5) Missed Fullmetal Alchemist (even though it's supposed to suck compared to the manga!)

(6) Suddenly remembered this morning that there's a scrapbooking event I RSVPd for at school. I didn't pay for it, but it's at 4pm or so, and I'll probably be with Jill all day. Foo!

(7) Got to mine-duel and trade cards (more like get cards as a fabulous gift) from an edo_lister, Malakite. Not only got tons of good cards through several hours of mine sessions, but I laughed too. We both have a sense of humor regarding the censors on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Online chat rooms. (Seriously, "goo" is a bad word!?)

(8) During said mine duels, I barely remembered which cards I got from my packs. I remembered some, but I hated how I kept forgetting the third one in the pack. Malakite told me this is because the third card almost always sucks, and he's right, but I hate not remembering stuff that I've seen TWO SECONDS BEFORE!

(9) Just remembered (right after I remembered the Scrapbooking thing) that I didn't critique anyone's papers for WWA. The week of finals, I was so stressed, depressed, and sick that I didn't remember one bit. I wonder if that'll lower my grade by much... *worry* HAH HAH, still got an A! (That's 3 As and 3 Bs. Or 2As and 3Bs, since the 102/C is technically one course, but they grade separately for the 102 class and the C(onversation) part of the class. That's a 3.4 GPA... not sure if that's perfectly accurate, and while it means no Dean's List this semester, it does mean YAY FOR MER! :D :D I MADE IT I MADE IT hard semester's over~ la la la la la la!

(10) Successfully canceled my Ancestry.com account. It was fun while it lasted, but it's way too freakin' expensive!

(11) Tweaked a bit of WDKY24 last night. It's annoying, but I've found that re-reading the whole chapter helps me focus on the scenes I have yet to write, and how I can better convey what I already have down.

(12) Haven't updated my YGO TCG sell list in 2 days. BAD MER!

Hm, good day or bad day?

All I know is, I want to go swimming.

[livejournal.com profile] ceruleansan, I apologize in advance for this. I really liked your other recs, and I appreciate you introducing me to FMA, explaining things to me, and reccing fics to me. But this one fic really pissed me off, and I have to rant about it. And the reviewers. But I'm excluding you, because you are my friend, and you don't know how I react to these kinds of things. So please don't take this as an attack on you (especially when I mention the reviewers.)

You know how I normally only read fics if they're recced to me by a friend or some such? Well, [livejournal.com profile] ceruleansan was reccing me some "good" FMA EdWinry fics today, and I was very excited. Many of them were quite good -cute or fluffy or whatnot,  and I liked them. I wanted to review, but FFnet wouldn't let me. Well, then I started on this fic called "Falling Away from me" and the content of the fic had me BOILING.

Not like "yum, hot cocoa or green tea" boiling either. MAD BOILING. FUCKING HOT BOILING.

I told Ceru from the beginning, when she described the fic as a "rapefic" that I might not be into it, but I trusted her previous recs, so I read it. By Chapter 5, I wanted to strangle the author. I never write flames (flames defined as a "baseless personal attack on the author, unrelated to the fic" in my book, which this wasn't), but I was certainly tempted to. I left a long, angry review, because this "fic" deserved it. The author (only 15, but writing a Mature fic involving rape AND self-mutilation) is a complete idiot.

I don't know who to blame: the senseless author, her idiot teachers for not educating her, her idiot parents for not educating her, or someone else. Maybe the idiot reviewers for pumping her with praise she doesn't deserve. Do these people not know anything about real women, psychology, human biology? I mean forgetting "getting a clue," these people need a life!

Here's what I said. )

I admit, I was pretty harsh. And I was even wrong with the morning sickness thing -I've just found out that it can start as early as six weeks, but some women don't go through it until the 7th, 9th, 14th... some don't EVER have morning sickness (I hope I'm one of them, whenever I end up having kids). But ONE DAY? Come on. Let's not be idiotic here.

Am I in the wrong here, for sort of knowing from the start that this might not be something I wouldn't like, but I read it anyway? I didn't read it to get pissed off, and the first four chapters were halfway decent, spelling and grammar aside. And I'll keep reading it (masochist!) just to see if it gets better or not. I'm glad I'm not the only reviewer that's pointed out the airheadedness of the fic author, but... seriously, if she gets her panties in a twist and decides to quit writing, I won't shed a tear or care if the fangirl squad comes after her.

222 reviews, and for what? Character-butchering, clichés, and sheer predictability. Some suspense, and a decent style of writing, but... a decent plot idea (because rape can be done well, just not as a "device" for getting Ed and Winry together) gone horribly wrong.

Honestly. People should be made to give their exact birth date when they sign up for FFnet, and NOT be allowed to post or even read Mature-rated fics if they're underage. They just DO NOT KNOW. Maybe some do, through real-life experiences, but I doubt they can/will talk about it in a coherent, mature way. And I admit, many of my friends on my FL write mature stuff, or have read mature stuff without complaint, but...

Ugh. There's a reason we have ratings and restriction. It's not that BAM! You turn 17 or 18 and all of a sudden you KNOW about rape and violence, gore and sex, cum and other such things... but your mind has developed more to a point where it isn't just stuff you blush and giggle about. You realize how SERIOUS stuff like rape can be. Maybe by then your high school teachers have crammed it into your head that RESEARCH is important, PLAGIARIZING IS BAD, and idiots should not breed!

And fuck, this is fanfiction. I feel stupid for taking it so seriously. "It's fandom, it's fanfiction, I wrote it for me, it's just for fun!" Yeah, fucktard, take your sick immature fantasies OFFLINE plzkthx, because when you put it online, you're ASKING for people to tear it apart. And I feel like tearing this apart, because it upsets me.

You Are Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

You are kind, popular, and generous.
You tend to be successful at anything you try.
A social butterfly, you are great at entertaining a crowd.

You are most compatible with strawberry ice cream.

I'm a social butterfly? FTW? Well, at least it's not out-and-out chocolate ice cream, because THAT: I hate. Okay, I dislike it. :P Chocolate is only good when it's in hot cocoa, milk chocolate candy bars, or rich fudge brownies.

Speaking of cold treats, I had one of those tasty Whole Fruit strawberry popsicle treats today. It was only 99 cents, and it had chunks of whole strawberry in it! Pretty tasty. Now I'm trying to wolf down a lunch special of my favorite Chinese food: Sweet and Sour Chicken with steamed rice, mandarin orange slices, and a can of Coke. :D Ah, this is nice.

You Belong in San Francisco

You crave an eclectic, urban environment. You're half California, half NYC.
You're open minded, tolerant, and secretly think you're the best.
People may dismiss you as a hippie, but you're also progressive, interesting, and rich!

HAHAHAHAHA. This is funny. (If you need to ask why, you don't know me well enough.)

You Are Cyclops

Dedicated and responsible, you will always remain loyal to your cause.
You are a commanding leader - after all, you can kill someone just by looking at them.

Power: force beams from your eyes

Great. So this means I won't even never mind, I don't want to spoil you!!!!

You Are 28% Cynical

Generally you give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are exceptions.
You buy into many of the things that mainstream society believes, but you're not anybody's fool.

Yeah, I suppose this is about right.

Anyway, moving away from the memes and such, I re-read "Something to Somebody" (what can I say, I'm a masochist), and I've decided that while I love the plot, I hate how I wrote it. It's dumb. And I'm so freakin' uninspired for WDKY24 (other chapters, sure. CO7 or ED? FINE! But I can't write the last 3 critical scenes of WDKY24! Darn it, I need to have a brainstorm session with a beta or something. Where has everyone gone? ;_; I wanna chat, guys!) that I may just do what I did when I *started* those other fics -work on other things until I get inspired. It's sad that WDKY24 is already 5+ months in the making and I haven't finished it, but... alas, such is the way of epic WIPs.

Ah, crazy ol' me has decided to sell all of my Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards. Probably even the ones I thought I couldn't part with before, like my special promos and my Dragon Deck. I mean, aside from decoration in my Duel Disk when I cosplay Anzu, what's the use? I might keep a single deck's worth, but they'll only be for decoration.

Anyway, the reason why I haven't announced anything on [livejournal.com profile] yu_gi_oh or similar comms/mailing lists yet is because I'm compiling a list of all the cards. That's a lot of cards-- 448 just for Normal Monsters, and I'm only about 1/3 through the Effect Monsters. Then come Ritual and Fusion Monsters, then Spells/Magic, and finally, Traps. So I have lots to sell. I'm going to buy a Beckett's or Pojo guide in the hopes of getting updated values for the cards, since I am essentially selling EVERYTHING, but I want to know what to package (either by theme/deck type or as "grab bag") and what to sell individually.

I don't know why this has got me so excited; I don't even know if/when I'll make any money off this. But I'd like to try. :) If anyone on my FL is interested in Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards, drop me a line and I'll see if I can sell you something.

I've also decided that another one of my summer projects (aside from getting organized, as usual) is to participate in the June [livejournal.com profile] sm_monthly. The theme is finally something I *WANT* to do-- namely "Starlights." I've had a few plot bunnies lying around that I want to tackle, so hopefully tomorrow's first theme will serve as inspirational. If I can't finish WDKY (lack of inspiration, really...) then at least I can focus my creativity somewhere. I'd like to finish my themed icon claims too, but yeesh, that'll take even longer and requires even more resources.

Finally, there's WikiFic, which I already mentioned I'm working on. So sign up, help out, and check what pages and images we need. There's tons of pages where I'm lacking information, and I still need to get Help and How To pages up. Even I'm still learning about all the possibilities of Wiki!

That said, I do need to get up early later this morning (eheh) and shower and go to Borders to get that price guide. So I'm going to try and sleep in this hot house of a bedroom now... (fan on, check! windows open, check! light blankets, check! Now let's just hope I don't have freaktacular dreams tonight.)

Back from Fanime!

Swag
* Ayashi no Ceres DVDs, episodes 7-19
* Kindaichi Case Files manga, #12: Tarot Lodge
* Purple dice earrings
* Aquamarine Mandarin short-sleeved shirt (zip-back)
* Shoujo Beat (June 2006)

I loved the Marriott. The hotel staff was insanely nice, the beds were super-comfy (zOMG king-sized MARSHMALLOW!), and the food was pretty damn good-- even if the portions, like the bedrooms, were huge. My Yuna cosplay was pretty successful, and I had no real qualms about my Anzu cosplay other than that there weren't that many other YGO cosplayers. BUT! I did meet [livejournal.com profile] chibipriestess, who cosplayed Malik, and her friend, who cosplayed bondage!Yuugi (I would say Yami no Yuugi, except she lacked the Millennium Puzzle, so we can just say that the puzzle got sucked into the 'Shadow Realm' or some such). There was one guy wandering around with a trenchcoat and a Duel Disk, but he was no more of a YGO cosplayer than I am a real pop superstar. :P

I got to meet many of my friends and hang out, so that was cool-- I even got to see some cool things, like "The Myth" and the live-action "Sekachu." I didn't find Gokusen on the schedule though, and I really wanted to see that, especially after [livejournal.com profile] mklutz said it was good. Plus, MatsuJun! I mean, that's just an Auto-WIN! I have 37 pics to upload, so you'll see them soon on my Scrapbook! :)

I went to the Fanfic panel on Saturday ... and I actually ended up running it for a while. It was kind of creepy, because I practically worship Joseph Palmer (which I'm sure he found somewhat creepy), but he is like, the ORIGINAL BNF in the Ranma fanfiction, and STILL ACTIVE! which makes him something of a miracle in the fandom. I liked Krista Perry and many others well enough, but Real Life just ate them all up. Even though the panel was smaller than past years, it still inspired a butt load of conversation, and I think there's so much to cover on Fanfiction, even if not every otaku even knows what it is, let alone does it. I met [livejournal.com profile] dawnsama there, and we went to the AMVs together, but other than that, it was a short, simple panel.

I hope AX will be more exciting.

Oh! I got some of my grades so far... okay, two of them:
Geography - B (to be expected. I bombed my midterm, so only a miracle could have landed me an A)
Japanese - A (YESSSSSSSS! We didn't have grade sheets this year, so I really didn't know how well I was doing. I had a general idea, but YAY!)

To do:
* Finish WDKY24
* Sell Yu-Gi-Oh cards on eBay
* WDKY Calendar )

Er yup. I think that's it. A new [livejournal.com profile] weekly_ygo should be coming out tomorrow.

Just as Grandpa and I were coming home, a champagne-colored sedan squealed around the corner of Superior and Wystone. Two guys immediately emerged from said sedan, which came to a rough, immediate stop at the house on the right corner of Superior and Wystone, one block and on the same side of the street as my house. Said guys came out with guns drawn, and said "Freeze! Put your hands up!" to the three or four guys outside of a red pickup truck, driver's side door open. My first thought was "Oh, some college guys are pulling a prank." Seriously. I thought they were just messing around.

But Grandpa didn't think so, and he purposely drove down a further street, taking the long, roundabout way home. When I got home, I wanted to check out what was going on, but when I got out of the car, all I saw was the sedan still pulled next to the pickup, both the doors still open, and I couldn't see any people-- presumably they'd gone into the house.

I think it was a drug bust! :O! Wow.

I've been on a theme song binge lately-- I got two versions of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme song (the original, by the Nerf Herders, and the cover, by The Breeders), and the Seasons 1-3 and Season 4 themes of Alias. I want the Season 5 remix of the Alias opening song, but I can't find it! GRR! Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd like the long version, if possible.

Speaking of Alias, this 2nd to last episode wasn't too bad. I was screaming at the TV the whole time, of course. :D I'm just glad Vaughn's alive. Sark made me laugh (he sounds so sexy when speaking Italian. Or maybe it was the Italian that sounded sexy, and he just looked good doing it), and it looks like the finale will really be the end-all-be-all (without killing everyone off or without making it too ambiguous) with LOTS of old characters returning for a guest appearance. It's a shame they had to kill off Nadia and Renée the way they did, but alas! Such is life in the spy biz.

Better news! I got an A- on my English paper which I stayed up till 2am working on. I'm thrilled! :D I'm not so sure about my latest editorial for journalism, but it's the profile due next Wednesday that I really have to get cracking on. [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra, are you free to be annoyed this weekend?

I've also managed to finally get Thunderbird links to open in FF, but who knows how long that'll last? I only wish I could use the HTML form for replying to comments... but for whatever lame reason, TB misinterprets them, and LJ thinks there's no POSTID. Feh.

twilighteyes8120 updating her SxA piece "Mixing Business With Pleasure" has got me itching to finish up WDKY-- that and my sudden obsession with trailers. Yes, trailers. So I'm thinking of trying my hand at "AMVs" that aren't really, literally AMVs. I'd do Flash instead, which means people could view them embedded in webpages. I'd like to do one each for WDKY, CO7, and ED, but the question is... what do people want to see trailers of? WDKY's already been out for 2 years now, so people doubtless don't want to see trailers of things that have already happened. Also, the trailers would be entirely musical/textual. I don't have the time/energy to do/find voice clips, let alone appropriate ones, so that's why these trailers would be closer to AMVs. So here comes the fun part:
If you could pick ANY chapter of WDKY (up to 3) to influence a WDKY trailer AMV, which one(s) would you pick? You can pick chapters that have already come out, chapters I've hinted at/mentioned, or random numbers. Assuming the art isn't too hard to pull off, I could (and will) do it.
CO7 and ED are different matters altogether, and those are things I'll be storyboarding on my own time.

Music suggestions are also welcome, but I already have some ideas.

My room smells like corn chips, so I'll light an incense. But if I get another freaky dream, I'm switching incense brands. )

This is a sequel to Counting. This is in answer to the 15-people meme, where [livejournal.com profile] atlantian_magic requested a Sousuke x Kaname piece with a KISS. But, since this is a sequel to counting, a story universe which I've semi-planned out in my head, this won't be a drabble. It'll be more of a free-flow ficlet-- a second chapter to "Counting," if you will, and I say it's finished when I say it's finished. :P

Title: Moment
Genres: Drama/Romance/Action
Pairing(s): Sousuke Sagara x Kaname Chidori
Rating: PG13-R for this one
Spoilers: For episode of 5+ of "Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid" and books in the "Owaru: Day by Day" series. If you've read "Counting," that's about all you'll need to know.
Notes: [livejournal.com profile] mklutz, not sure if you liked/enjoyed "Counting" enough to get a sequel, but since I owed you "double," here's part two. I hope you like. :)

I do not own the universe nor the characters represented herein. This is a work for fun, not for profit.

A moment like this... )

And everybody say WHEE! Blue Eyes and Apricots, the web's first, official, and ONLY (English) Azureshipping fanlisting now has -count 'em- 400 members! Congratulations to Rea-kun from Malta, who will probably not read this, but who is the kick-buttingest 400th member. I think I should do something special, but what, I do not know. (No, I will not change the layout. Dammit, that layout was hard enough to put together! :P If anything, I can change the colors and the picture but THAT IS IT!)

Spread the word, yo. We've been getting more members than EVER lately, and it makes me so happy! :D :D :D I have some new fanart to put up soon too (from... you guessed it, Rea-kun!) among other things, so at least there's always some new content to check out. I need some more recs and nominations for the Fanfics and Websites sections too, though, so drop me a line, ne?

This is my last week of school before finals. I have four finals, as far as I know:
* Japanese (duh)
* Women writers of Asia (identification... should be easy.)
* Geography (X_X)
* English (X_X;;;)

I finished my term paper for WWA, and I was quite pleased with it-- maybe because the intended length was 8-10 pages, and I ended up with 14. I had to shrink the font and change the font family to get it to fit. :P This is good news though, because I ended up cutting big chunks out, compared to my outline. This means when I actually get around to expanding it and editing it for my scholarship project (which is to write on contemporary writers of Japan, mainly female writers, and in contrast with male writers), I'll have lots of material to work with.

Today I just finished a paper for Geography on symbolic landscapes, and being the urbanite I am, I chose to write about a fourth landscape (this is in addition to D.W. Meinig's list if three from 1979: the New England village, the Middle-American Main street, and Californian Suburbia): the urban landscape. It was limited to 2 pages and a sketch map page, so I hope I did well on it. Prof. Davidson peered over to my paper while I was attempting to draw a lumpy model of San Francisco. :P

I have an idea for my editorial (that is, my second one, because damned if I can come up with another full-length feature piece in less than a day. Bad Mer, bad!) - California is behind the times. Hell, the whole United States is, but California is the worst off, especially here in So. Cal. Now, I haven't heard anyone vocally railing about it on *MY* FL, but that could be due to other reasons... but gas is at an all-time high here in CA. $3.37 is the cheapest you'll find here in Northridge; in San Diego, you were lucky if you saw below $3.54. I saw a $3.61 there, and Baba said she saw a $3.70-something. I realize gas prices as a whole are going up around the country, but CA's always had the higher prices, because we have so many damn people dependent on gas. We can get gas from the South and from Alaska, but somehow, that still doesn't help us. Then you look at countries like Japan, where their public transportation system is RELIABLE and EFFICIENT. I don't know a lot about their environmental policies (they still allow smoking in public restaurants, so...) or fuel usage, but Hummers wouldn't be popular there, and I saw more minivans than I did SUVs while I was there. It's sort of like telling someone they have to cut off their arm to save their life- people just don't want to do it, even if a part of them recognizes it's for the greater good. Are we stupid or just sick?

To do:
* See various departments about transferable credit from Tokiwa. Get them to sign the forms now so that when I come back, they can't double-cross me. I should do that tomorrow, since I need the course catalog.

* Finish up my online resume at meredithsweet.com :D (Go check it out. Tell me if I'm missing anything, if anything needs editing, etc. The front page only has a short intro right now, but so far, I like it.)

* FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICS. I'm already 2000+ words into [livejournal.com profile] atlantian_magic's Sousuke x Kaname piece, which [livejournal.com profile] mklutz, you will be pleased (I hope) to note that it's a continuation/sequel to the fic I did for you, "Counting." :) I never intended it to be so long, but... hey, it's just one of those universes. I've also got a good idea for the Ed x Winry piece [livejournal.com profile] geniusgirl wanted, so I'll get started on that as soon as I'm done with SxK. Oh yeah, and WDKY24. I want it OUT! OUT, I SAY!

* She is the one named Sailor Moon! I was messing with my Thunderbird settings yesterday (remember folks: compact your Inbox often!) and decided to haunt alt.fan.sailor-moon for a bit, and found a HI-larious post on the possibility of yet another live action SM movie. With Jennifer Garner as the main villain. Hahaha, yeah right. But still, funny. And then someone posted a YouTube link to the elusive Episode 67, wherein Chibiusa BEFRIENDS A DINOSAUR. That was a cute episode, even if the animation style degenerated by about 2 seasons. But yeah, Sailormoon. So totally into it again. :D

* AX? Who here is going to AnimeExpo 2006? I mean the one in Anaheim. Because (I think I mentioned this before) someone requested I go, and there *IS* a brand-new Sheraton there. Mom thinks she can get me the StarHot or whatever it's called rate, which is TEH UBER CHEAP! So why not? I'd just pay for the pre-reg and the shuttle there (if Mom wanted to erase the rest of her debt by paying for THAT hotel room too. She paid for all of Fanime, which surprised the crap out of me) and whatever I saw and wanted that I didn't get at Fanime. And hell, I'll even cosplay Anzu. :D I just want to do a lot of things before I go to Japan.

>_> I hope I got a decent grade on my English paper/Kate Chopin's 'The Storm,' even if it was late.
azurite: (indiana ed (fma))
[livejournal.com profile] ceruleansan, I hope you know this is ALL YOUR FAULT. YOU STARTED IT!
And if I get plotbunnied and start writing Fullmetal Alchemist fanfiction, I KNOW WHO I'M COMING AFTER TO BETA MY FICS! *angry stare*

Yeah, so I've kind of gotten, er... well, let's use a light form of "obsessed," shall we? Interested in the FMA series. CeruleanSan had me downloading scanlations from StopTazmo, and I've managed to get up to Chapter 20 or thereabouts. She wanted a new convert to the whole Ed x Winry pairing, and I'm so far inclined to agree with her-- a bit. There really isn't a whole ton of romance or innuendo, or backstory beyond how Ed and Al got to where they are.

I admit- parts of the manga are extremely funny, but I don't think ANY manga has ever had me crying so much within a few chapters. Yu-Gi-Oh only brought me to tears when I realized IT WAS OVER, not at any point during the first arc. Even Sailormoon, with the DEATH! and the TRAGIC!OMG etc... even in the live-action, it was always toward the END that I was sobbing like a baby. And okay, FMA didn't have me sobbing like a baby, but the sad parts (people getting murdered, kittens being dead, etc.) had me sniffling and wishing I could click away-- but I couldn't. :P

So I download about 3 chapters at a time while doing something else online. I read them all once they've finished downloading, and once I get 700 MB worth (which may take awhile; I've got something like 97 MB now, and that's *20* chapters!), I'll burn it to CD.

Sucky thing is that the quality really went down around Ch. 18. I don't mean the manga or even the scans- just the translating. All of a sudden, words were horribly misspelled, apostrophes and commas were left out, and chapter titles weren't translated at all anymore. Some omake bits and cover scans were left out altogether! It was kinda sad. If anyone knows where the HQ scans are, I'll wait longer-- just so I can read scanlations in REAL English, not that kindergarten crap that passes for English these days. (I like "Engrish," but there's no humor in stuff that's halfway between Engrish and English. It's called LAZINESS.)

UGH! One more week until I get paid, two more weeks until "finals" (I actually don't have finals for all of my classes. I do have tons of WORK to get done, especially by the end of this week, so I better get cracking.), and three weeks until FANIME! I still haven't reserved a shuttle to the airport and back again though, and Mom hasn't paid me or covered any portion of the hotel room yet. I should call her about that (well, she DID offer! It'll shave some off the money she still owes me, at any rate). At least I'll have April's paycheck (or will it be May's?) to cover Fanime and the like, and I'll be making MORE money in the summer, assuming I get more hours (which I hope I do).

Ooh, and for Mother's Day weekend, I'm going to San Diego on the choo-choo! :D I'm going to make Scott's mom a card, because even if I don't see her, she's been way nice to me. I know I'm going to see Scott at least on Friday night/Saturday morning, so he can pass the card on. I think I'll be at Joyce's for Sunday, but I don't know what exactly we're doing. (I hope Joyce wins her court case today against the insurance guys, because it'd be sucky for her and Baba to try and celebrate Mother's Day if she DIDN'T win.)

More FFX-2 and Da Vinci Code Quest schtuff )

Ugh, still need a new LJ layout (got sick of the Lisa Frank kitties). DAMN YOU MUSE! Where ARE you!?

Profile?

Apr. 24th, 2006 08:07 pm
azurite: Part of the "What Doesn't Kill You" series of fanfic icons (wdky (general))
In about 5 weeks or so, I have to turn in a profile article for Journalism, so I have to consider a subject now. The general idea is finding someone that I find interesting, not just someone that has done something incredible, experienced or survived something amazing, or said something controversial.

Someone would be currently doing or acting a certain way based on their past experiences, to the point where others that are not in that same situation would wonder "Why would that person do that?"

Initially, I was leaning toward my Grandpa, with his WW2 Navy stories, but generally speaking, his past doesn't rule or define him so much these days. So then I thought of someone else -a good friend- and I hope she'll forgive me for being presumptous. [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra, if you have time and are willing to be a bit self-boasting, would you want to help me out?

If that doesn't pan out, I'm open to nominations-- I think people nominating themselves would be a bit arrogant, but I've read so many LJs and am part of so many people's lives, it'd be insanity to try and think of specific events or circumstances that have made my friends and acquaintances such interesting people. So if you know someone (hopefully that I already know as well) that has an interesting life/backstory, and is currently living or acting in an unusual fashion, let me know. I want to consider all my options. :)

In good news, I got a B- on my last feature story, about ACE Mentor, despite the sheer lack of live reporting (that's what lowered my grade) and Dad not really contributing to the story, even if I got the idea from him. I wish I could revise for a better grade, but as I can't, this is good enough for me.

I do have to think of a topic for my editorial, so I was leaning toward something recent, or perhaps controversial (or both... [livejournal.com profile] fandom_wank, anyone? Maybe the whole "fan-published" fanfiction, a.k.a. unauthorized novels?), since I do have "experience" in that area. Other ideas/opinions (I love a good debate) are welcomed! :D

I also updated my LJ with a completely cornball layout from Persnickety Layouts, using kitties a'la Lisa Frank. Do you remember the bright shininess of Lisa Frank, back in your elementary school days? I couldn't resist. I had to bump the header image down to get the nav bar to show, and now the sidebar is still a bit too high up, but it's still mostly readable. That doesn't mean I like the sheer explosion of cute and pink and such, so I'm still open to layout suggestions, pointers to sites or tutorials, or people interested in having me commission them.

And when I get home, I have to try a thing to get my 2wire router to work despite the VPN client. I also have to download a new version of Spybot S&D, because I'm apparently running an ancient version without an interface. It totally screwed up the computer last night, so I had to do a cold reboot this morning, and who knows what happened after that. :P

Ooh, ooh, and I kind of got an idea for WDKY-- but not for 24 (boo). It's for ch. 27-28 or thereabouts, and it involves (Char A) getting into a real fight with (Char B), quite possibly betraying the trust of (C) and (D), and causing (E) to unexpectedly defend both (B) and (D), and (D), who previously was mad at (E) would start to wonder who to trust or believe, what with all the insanity going on (caused by F and Co.)

Heh. Play the guessing game! (It's actually somewhat obvious, if you've been keeping track of my dastardly hints.)

Inept.

For all the greatness I've got in getting into Tokiwa, I think I'm lacking in the creativity and/or motivational departments at the moment. I seriously need a new layout for my LiveJournal. I hate using some rehashed one ganked from some site- every time I've found one that I liked (rare) and managed to get it up, something's gone wrong. Too wide, too narrow, this not showing up, that not showing up...

...I wonder if I could commission someone? Maybe for about $10? (I'm flexible, but I'm thinking base price, here. If I come up with colors and graphics...) Any takers? (Mer <-- LAZY!?)

GRR! I like the Smooth Sailing Layout and want to customize it to my liking. I've been rummaging through the few tutorials on [livejournal.com profile] s2smoothsailing and found myself at [livejournal.com profile] the_lj_reboot, but even with resources, there's not much help there for me to "reboot" my LJ into anything spectacular. I don't even have any ideas as to colors, artwork, fonts, etc. for the journal... I've tried about four or five things now, and nothing "hits" me. I've even gone through premade layouts on my comp and thought about adapting them.... but nothing.

Same goes for my websites, which an unusual amount of people have been asking about. I pay $6/mo for the service, I damn well better upgrade everything and make it functional and look good. I should add a counter to all the pages, too. I just wish I could buy bottled inspiration or something.

Well, so Passover wasn't too much of a bomb. Dad and I sorta got along by the end of the week; no more explosive and/or embarrassing fights, but there's still a lot I can't agree with him on, and think he's utterly immature for. Scott really was my godsend; he even helped paint the rec room bathroom when the fumes got to be too much for me. There's still more fixing-up to do-- the air filter in the main hall needs to be replaced, and the mirrors and paintings in the rec room bathroom need to be hung up again. We also need new socket and switch plates, and I need new luggage (Target EMBARK series in Lilac, only $30!) Plus the kitchen's a right mess, and I'd like to move the computer upstairs to my room-- just to test it out. I need to put clothes away, organize my desk, blah blah...

I think I said 3 weeks ago that I'd be done with WDKY24, and it's not there yet. I feel rotten about it, too, but I'm still lacking in inspiration, even if I seriously want to get to the parts BEYOND 24 (AUGH, THE BEST PARTS!) and have the "outline" written for 99.9% of the chapter... of course it's the toughest parts that I keep skipping and not writing. But writers never make promises! :P (Except for implicit ones)

Ah, as for Tokiwa, I'm supposed to go from Mid-September to late-January. Missing Hanukkah/Christmas would be a big bummer to me, but since tuition/air fare/etc. is free, I might be able to swing a plane ride home and back... if I get financial aid. Why would they award me financial aid if a) I won't be at CSUN, and b) Tokiwa's tuition for me is free? Same goes for the Presidential Scholarship... what is the point of having the priority registration, the Matador Bookstore discount, etc. if I go to a school with FREE tuition? That's not to say I won't work on my project for the Scholarship-- better to try and do it IN JAPAN like I originally hoped; maybe some of my professors there can help me better understand female writers of their country. But financial aid is how I survive... even if I would get a stipend IN Japan for teaching conversational English, how would that measly amount help me for nearly 6 whole months? ;_;

Dad never got me a birthday present. :P So I treated myself at Border's, using 2 coupons: I got 15% off Carmen Electra's Vols 4 & 5 of her Aerobic Striptease (Lapdance and Hip Hop. Teh yey!) and 25% off the Back to the Future trilogy. I wanted to get Indiana Jones, but they didn't have it-- not in Action/Adventure, and not in the Boxed Sets area, even though the computer said they had it in stock, and I had the guy (who was a jerk) check the back room. :P

And now... it's Back to Back to the Future. I'm too bored to just keep sitting here. Maybe I'll eat some pie now.

I got this review for WDKY6 today:

From: Some Dumb Fanbrat
-------------------

Girl you write to long chapters sometimes.

...Do I even need to start with this one? I should really just ignore all one-liner reviews with bad grammar/spelling. I really don't get too many one-liners, but I do get plenty of reviews with bad spelling. It's kind of ironic, really.

But this pisses me off NOT because it's one line and misspells one of the most basic words of the English language (or the person was too speedy to correct themselves, or they were too lazy to correct themselves after the fact, and LOOK! I spelled the word that they misspelled --but I did it correctly, and I'm typing fast!) but because this person was complaining about the length of my chapters.

LOOK, BUSTER, I didn't ask you to sit down and read my story. You have a CHOICE. I do not run a dictatorship. My monkeys will not eat your brain if you don't read every last line of every last chapter of my fic. Some people like oneshots better. Hell, I run a Oneshot C2 community at FFnet. But this particular fic IS LONG. It has to be. Why? Because I plan on making it damn good and well-developed, and that means I actually have to TAKE TIME with the characters, the plot, and everything else in between. Yes, I tend to babble, BUT I WRITE FOR A PURPOSE.

Trust me when I encourage readers who DO like the length to stick to it, and read between the lines, because when in WDKYverse, EVERYTHING will come back to bite you on the ass. For those readers smart and nice enough to be reading this entry, here's a small sampler of facts/happenings that will have an impact or appearance in later chapters. See if you can pick the chapter it's from:

-Somebody paid for the gang's meal at a restaurant.
-The code Laroque used to open the briefcase from the Big Five had a double meaning.
-Téa spots some pictures on the mantle in Kaiba mansion.
-Seto admits he has never tried raw cookie dough.
-The club that Mai and Téa went to refers to a Brendan Fraser movie. The reason why Mai and Téa will return to it in later chapters deals with the name of the club.
-There's an Indiana Jones reference when Malik shows up and shows the Egyptian exhibit to Téa and Seto.
-Joey and Mai both have screen names that they use to talk to Seto in a chat room.

And this is just from a FEW chapters. Now imagine if I had about 3-5 references in every chapter, with 36 total chapters-- 37 if you count 7A and 7B as separate chapters. There's a LOT to work in there. I don't write references uselessly. This story is so insanely planned out, it's a wonder it doesn't just prose-ify itself. But alas, that's not how fic works. I'm sorry for being a weirdo and taking it seriously.

My chapters are long because I write NOTHING that has NO MEANING. That translates to: EVERYTHING I WRITE IS IMPORTANT. If I felt some part of the chapter or story could be cut, I would. But I don't feel that way, so I can't. My editors and betas are welcome to tell me what they think is useless, or could be compressed, or better phrased, and I listen to them. But I don't tell them everything, and even they don't know what I will cut or for what reason.

...This review just pissed me off, but I don't want to reply to the person with this long-winded rant. I don't want to say "Fine, if your attention span is akin to that of a gnat, go find some crack!fic to amuse you. My fic takes time to develop because it's NOT complete crap from my bowels after eating some bad sashimi."

Hmph.

P.S. I finished my Yuna earring... sort of. It's good, but I can't get the tassel to attach to the bottom bead + wire without there being a very obvious loop. I tried to tie the tassel's string in a knot to the wire, but it kept slipping off, so I cut it. There's a wire going through the tassel, separate from the one going through all the beads. Any ideas on how to fix it?

So yesterday I had major bank problems, but I solved them with a phone call and a transfer. Today (masochist that I am) I check my bank account, and I'm in the red again. Why? Because the overdraft fee hit today- $25, not $10. And since it overdrafted by taking money out for the overdraft fee. And it might do it again. It's a lot less than it was yesterday, but I don't have enough in my savings to cover it, and I have no money of my own to cover it. Ugh. Payday isn't for another 10 days, and I HATE borrowing money from my grandparents (esp. if it's not for my trip). But I hate relying on the fact that Mom will pay for everything in Hawaii up until I get paid. But my grandparents already BOUGHT me a present.

AUGH! That's my word of the week, totally.

I paid for my Yuna costume though, and I told mom about my need of a hotel room for Fanime. So hopefully she'll help me out, but she's got to revise her taxes (and possibly mine), send me copies of both plus a Dependent Verification Form and THEN I can know whether I get X amount for financial aid next semester. I need to get it done soon; it may have already been 3 weeks... >_>

But at least I'm going to Hawaii soon (broke or not) and having my big 2-1. And I talked to Sung today too (today's his birthday; he was bowling). :D And I think I may just work on WDKY24. TEH YAY.
azurite: (yuna summons)
Happy Birthday ceruleansan, mischiefmagnet and missandrony!

Okay, so I did it. I'm being an unoriginal, damn-good looking wh0r and going as Songstress Yuna for Fanime. I have pre-regged. I have (almost) bought and paid for the cosplay... and I might get a microphone accessory from someone else. The boots won't match, but who cares? I can also make the hair accessory myself (Yay for FIMO!). I have no plane ticket, no hotel room and no money for food/dealer's room at the moment, but I will once my birthday paycheck comes through (it just happens to fall on or around that day, yey me), but I will deal with that ASAP. I've also just emailed my mom, so at least she can help me out with the hotel (I hope), and Baba and Grandpa might help me with the plane tickets and shuttle costs (the plane tickets I would pay them back for, duh).

Anyway, it'd be nice to offset my potential hotel room costs if someone wanted to room with me. $45/night for 3 nights isn't bad for a 4-star hotel right in the convention center. Anyone interested? (Note: I'm looking for ONE, *maybe* two people for a double-bed room. Completely non-smoking, and for the love of god, no whirling-dervishes for roommates. I like people who are neat and relatively decent guests.)

[livejournal.com profile] atlantian_magic, I owe you Kaiba the Virgin Sacrifice. I've actually been quite the busy bee, working on WDKY24 (which is late, I realize-- I apologize to my betas and my Wonderful Historical Consultant, [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra). It's being a stubborn brat. I've also been playing FFX-2 almost non-stop (bad Mer, bad!) in lieu of having a decent Karaoke Revolution (Party Mix SUCKS!) or The Sims (I refuse to buy the PC CD version. It's DVD Special Edition or BUST!). Now I'm leveling up in the underground Thunder Plains cave, by rubber banding my X button down with a quarter, and setting the Analog stick to constant roam. Bwahahaha... it's so slow leveling up. I thought I'd be tons of leveled up by now, since I went to Target with Karin and her boyfriend, the aptly-named Guy. But Grandpa wanted to "turn it off" and so he unplugged my Memory Card and controller. -_-; I told him never to do that again, and just turn off/change the channel if he didn't want to see Yuna ramming herself into a wall and battling Machina. So now he knows. :P

Back to KtVS: (Kaiba the Vampire Slayer!? WAAAH!?) so what would be a more effective perspective, I wonder, for this first foray of mind into probably-smut? Kaiba, our unwilling "hero," or Anzu, the mysterious seductress? I have two separate opening lines, and the opening line determines "whose story" it is. Note that this wouldn't be a first-person fic (eeeuch... for a smutfic?), but with Kaiba's perspective, you'd probably get more humor from his being stuck in such an awkward situation. From Anzu, you'd understand from the get-go everything about the plot, minus the ending. Anzu's story would also be darker, up until said ending.

I obviously haven't written any of it yet-- except for the planner, so don't shoot! I like asking people's opinions about everything.

I finished reading The Mediator: Darkest Hour and The Mediator: Haunted (yes, in less than a day. The series is that addicting). Now it's onto the last, dramatic, and hopefully ROMANTIC book in the series, The Mediator: Twilight. Now, am I the only one who read Book #5 and thought "If they made a Mediator movie, THIS WOULD BE IT!?" Too bad I'm not so good at adapting novels into screenplays. I could totally do it the other way around. (I would also be a much better Suze than Hilary Duff or somesuch. Not that I've ever wanted to break into Hollywood, but still. :P)

Anyway, ugh... stomachache from that mini Pizza Primo I got at Target's Pizza Hut Express. I knew it was a bad idea the moment I stuck it in my mouth, but alas... I didn't like the looks of the pizza Karin and Guy brought home with them from before, and I know there's little to nothing else to eat in the house except pancakes and cream of wheat... which I'm right sick of. Well, except for the pancakes. But what to do for a quick meal that you don't have to prepare carefully?

Gotta go! (P.S. What's up with this new "Current Location:" thing in LJ? I use Semagic, and the client hasn't updated for this field, and there's no news or FAQ announcements about it... help?)
azurite: (yuna's memory)
I do not like Jim Cramer. I just felt like saying "Boo-yah" because there are only 18 days left till my 21st birthday! WHOO! And I'll be in Hawaii sipping Mai Tais~

At the behest of many people, I shall also be starting on "Kaiba the Virgin Sacrifice" soon. It'll start out kind of dark (because it has to), but trust me, it'll get steamy/sexy/sensual enough to "keep your attention." I hope. *impish smile* As I said in my last post, I did work on WDKY24. Alas, it's coming along slower than I intended, if only because I keep thinking I'm writing very dryly, "telling" and not "showing." There are parts when I honestly think it needs to be more emotionally-driven, perhaps with dialogue, and yet I can't think of the right words to say. This is a long chapter already, too: I haven't finished it, and it's already 114KB! Mostly, I have left to write the final duel scene, the conclusion of the chapter (with teasers for the Next Big Arc, coming in Ch. 26), and some bits of Anubis' past, which I hope won't be too confusing/historically inaccurate.

Last night I got up to Cloister 30 in Via Infinitio, and all the Elder Drakes ramming themselves into the walls (migraine, much?) keep scaring me off. I just run past them, avoiding the fight... even though I need to fight one of them to get them into Shinra's Bestiary, and even if it means "fighting" them and running away X amount of times until they oversoul, I still have to face them. ;_; But they SCARE me! Isn't that stupid? I have a bunch of monsters I have yet to oversoul, and the sucky part is, I can't do it without getting all the way through Via Infinitio. That's the only way to get 100% in the game: beat Trema and Paragon. But the reward for doing so is The End garment grid, which lets you Break Damage Limit... which I totally need. Obviously, the problem is, I'd like to Break Damage Limit BEFORE I have to face those guys... otherwise it'll just be me going back and forth, saving and praying I don't get pwned by a Mega Tonberry or whatnot. I need to know what GGs and DSes to equip (plus accessories) so I can level up faster (they're all at 58-60 now) and be confident enough to take some more fiends on. It's been a while since I've played though, but being so close to the ending, I really want to beat the game at 100%! I hate how all the guides make it seem so easy to beat Via Infinitio, though! :P

Well, what a weekend. Short, but nice.

^^ Scott, Baba and Grandpa all chipped in to get me a wonderful, simple-to-use digital camera for my birthday! It's a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600. I had to buy a Targus camera case (a little big... but it was only $20. The sad part is, I can't fit any of the manuals in there!) and an additional 512MB memory card (Sony Memory Chip Pro Duo Or Duo Pro or something. Same thing that goes in PSPs), but other than that, TEH YAY! I already took some pictures, so later on, I'll upload them to my LJ Scrapbook.

I got the latter two things at Fry's-- my first adventure there. I was sorely tempted (for whatever bizarre reason) to buy Zack that gift certificate I "mentioned" (note: did not PROMISE) if he gave me a ride home every Friday for the rest of the semester. But you know what? Why should I? I mean, yeah, his birthday was March 6th or whatever, but I've hardly known him for 3 mos., and I'm a broke college student. He's making tons more money than me, and pulling more hours, too! And for all the times he's been nice/sweet/thoughtful/remotely attractive, he's also been teasing, rude, hurtful, and a general jerk. And he DID say that if I needed rides home on Fridays for the rest of the semester, I "don't even have to ask." He'll assume I do, unless I tell him otherwise. And he didn't insist or even mention that I might need to pay him back, or reimburse him for the gas somehow.

So that's that. (If he strangely gets ME a birthday present, I might consider getting him something later on. Call it fair play.)

I also got the movie "Maverick" (ah, the days when Mel Gibson ACTED!), some candy (all gone now. Note to self: never mix Skittles smoothie flavors), and a Netgear Wireless Adapter USB card... which I've already plugged in and is working fine. YAY! Soon, I'll be able to move/trash this desk downstairs in the rec room and move the computer up to my room... where it SHOULD be. :P I might have to do that with Scott after Passover though, just because everyone "needing" to use the computer (and considering I've paid for so much to fix/maintain this computer, it's just as much mine as Grandpa's. And if we switch to Roadrunner Broadband, I could pay Grandpa for Net access, and then it essentially WOULD be my computer) would whine about it.

What else? Skinny-dipped for the first time. *laughs* Don't tell, okay? Hey, I didn't have a swimsuit! I woke up early both yesterday and today, and today we walked Scott's parents' dog, Chica, around the hill where they live. They also have a blind-as-a-bat cat, Molly, a cancer kitty, who meowed plaintively this morning while Scott and I were in bed. ^^; For an old kitty, she sure manages to be loud!

I've also gotten a bit inspired for more of WDKY and its sequels (FINALLY!). I can't spoil anything for CO7 or ED, but for WDKY:
Implicit Promise: Life is change. Téa and Seto will somehow find romance despite all the obstacles that their complex lives throw in their path. They will both learn, live, love, and grow-- and change in the process, for better or for worse.
Protagonists: Téa, mainly, but also Seto, and occasionally Mokuba, Joey, and Yugi.
Point-of-View Character: Almost always Téa, even though the story is written from the 3rd-person omniscient perspective. This allows me to switch gears and get into other characters' heads, and reveal events that Téa and the the others wouldn't know about.
Climax: Coming soon. I mean it this time. :D (And you thought the PAST chapters were climatic! BWAHAHHA!)

Finally, I BEAT THE DEN OF WOE! I brought FFX-2 to work the other night, and just before we were supposed to leave, I managed to beat Nooj (pain in the ass that he is) with a team of Mascot, Gun Mage, and Alchemist. Yuna and Rikku both died several times, due to their low HP (around level 56 for everyone), but I had Rikku (once she was alive) mix up a Supreme Gem with a Blessed Gem, and BAAAAAAAAMMO! This nifty Mix called a Sunburst, which got Nooj for over 8100 damage! :D Fine, so I didn't get any of the cool Blue Bullets, but whatever. That's what New Game++ is for! Anyway, I'm FINALLY at 98%, so I go to look up 100% Completion Guides, just to make sure I don't screw anything up.

And then I stumble on this whole thing about FFVII and FFX being connected?! WHAR!? But the theories and evidence are actually quite cool. I feel kind of lame for not having seen it before, but then, I never did finish playing FFVII. I'll probably be more into it if/when they release the remake for PS2/PS3, with better graphics. I hated the so-called 3-D chunk graphics in FFVII. ;_;

So anyway, I got to have some more fun with the game later tonight. I took a nap earlier after I helped the guys (that is, Ryan, Scott, Jeff, and John) clean the house, so I'm kind of wired. I also had a Snapple on the too-too crowded train, and I'm glad to be able to bounce around and not bump into people or stumble off to the side.

Ah, to be home! And it's almost April/Spring Break/time to find out about Japan! EEEEEEK!

Weekend Birthdays That I Would Miss If I Didn't Post This:
Happy Birthday Katia and Will!

;_; I may have done badly on my Geography midterm. I had another Attack of the Killer Headache and was basically sleeping for 14+ hours. I don't know how I manage it and still wake up "normal" (ish). I should have studied during that time, but with the half-hour or so that I stayed awake long enough to study, plus the half-hour from this morning, it wasn't nearly enough. ;_; Remembering all this stuff about landforms and weather patterns is hard! I hope I at least get a B. ^^;

It's all been done before... - An excellent (if amusing and occasionally graphic) list of all the tropes, kinks, and clichés found in fanfiction. Just when you think it HASN'T been done before... oh, it has. And to great effect. So sorry. Pick another letter of the alphabet, please.

Ones that rang true for Yu-Gi-Oh as I skimmed the list )

^^ I want an LJ-hoodie for my birthday. :P

Icon meme ganked from Stef )

So if it was "Miss Independent" running around in my head before (a total Mai x Jounouchi song if there ever was one), now it's "Just Missed the Train," which has inspired me for something for [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses, particularly theme #25: fence. It's annoying though, because like I mentioned before, I have all those other 30kisses submissions sitting on my computer at home, they're just unfinished because I can't think of how to end them... well, except for Kaiba the Virgin Sacrifice, but I have to be in the right frame of mind to sit down and write that without turning into some sort of tomato!

I'll get around to writing it later, maybe at work. I have my flash drive with me, so I can save it on there and not worry about it.

So, why are all the weird people on MySpace? I mean, there are non-weird people on there, but today I just got a message from someone who says he and his girlfriend are interested in trying out a threesome, and if I'm interested... My face goes: o_O; (okay, I'm totally NOT pulling an Usagi Kou here and taping an emoticon to my face. But you get the picture). Does anybody READ the profiles on MySpace? I'm "in a relationship" or whatever the hell you wanna call it, and even though I'm bi, I won't just hop into a bed with 2 people I don't know and trust because THEY need to add some spice in their love life!

o_o; Geez.

In other news, I'm going to San Diego this weekend. I know my last Amtrak adventure was harrowing (very late trains and the like), but I'm going to hope that it was just a one-shot thing... in any case, my train leaves Chatsworth around 8:40pm or so on Friday night, so I can either ask Zack to take me there straight after work, or I can go home with my grandparents and let them take me. Last time I liked having them there, because the train was very late, and it was extremely cold out. I liked being able to get in the car and warm up while I waited for the train. Chatsworth is an outdoors station, and it's the porn capital of the world, so creepy people are always lurking about...

I'm going because this weekend and next weekend are mine and Scott's only chances to see each other before he goes to Belize and I go to Hawaii. It feels like we've been seeing each other often, but realistically, it's only a few times each month. After living with him for so long, I never thought I'd be able to survive not seeing him for such a long stretch of time, but I'm managing. I have moments when I really wish he was with me, but for now, things are okay. I only hope that wherever life takes him, I can be with him sooner rather than later. :)

And now for more crazy stuff: I have to finish my Gilman application, the Bridging scholarship application, and now I have to send a Financial Aid Award letter (via fax) to the NSEP people in Washington. Which means I have to pressure mom a bit more (already talked to her last night) about the letter of Dependent Verification (which I sent out this morning) which she has to mail back to me with a copy of both mine and her tax returns (she'll do it electronically for me, and have the gov't deposit it automatically in my bank account. Sweet!). I won't be able to get that Award letter until I give all the stuff from mom to school... probably. I should check with them anyway. In any case, the stuff for school is due within 3 weeks, and the award letter I have to fax to NSEP is due by the 31st. YIPES!

What else? I worked a lot on WDKY24 last night; I kind of got inspired for this particular scene that is essentially dropping a big piece of sticky candy in the middle of an anthill. I'm eager to see if anyone will pick up on it (call it a "hidden" piece of candy). Still Anubis' backstory is a tough thing to tackle, but with Kysra's help and some good research, I think I can make this work relatively "realistically" (for the WDKYverse, anyway).

I also FINALLY managed to get the style I got from [livejournal.com profile] _premadelayouts to work for my Friends' page, but many things are still out of place, and I'm not sure how to rearrange them so they ARE in place. Is there a way I can make that style public so other people can go "oh, you have your %%blahblah%% variable in the wrong place, which is why your username is way off to the right, and your entries are all indented 20 pixels"? (Also, think anyone can help me with that?)

I got a $20 Amazon certificate from StartHereGoPlaces.com after a survey I took, which is nice. I thought I wouldn't get it, since I'm not a business major (and that was what the survey was about), but I still did, so I'm getting the last 3 books in the Mediator series by Meg Cabot, and a book in the Elements of Fiction Writing series (which I'm sorta re-reading at the moment) called Description. I was thinking about buying all the Princess Diaries books I'm missing (Volumes 4-7, including the 4.5 "Princess Project"), but I decided against it-- there's so many, and Amazon sure made it confusing by offering the British versions, too! @_@

AAAAAAAAAND I got Volume 2 of Yu-Gi-Oh! R in the mail from Sagusa Books. How come I've never heard of them before? They're great! :D I realize Jenniyah is already scanlating (crappily, but still scanlating) YGO!R, so [livejournal.com profile] souten_scans won't be taking that on in the forseeable future. But I'm still waiting on [livejournal.com profile] dm_san to get back to me with whether or not our groups will work together for the scanlations of the Gospel of Truth, since she already has very HQ scans that would save us a lot of time and unnecessary effort.

I'm getting my hair done tomorrow-- a partial weave of highlights (as suggested! ^_~), I still need a wireless card, to do some cleaning, and now catch up on reading for Women Writers of Asia, because if I post *something* on the short story we were supposed to have read by yesterday, it's better than nothing. I also have to revise my English essay and try and get it to my professor before 7pm tonight. So much to do, and yet... I'm not too stressed. Let's just see if I can remember it all!

Happy Birthday Mklutz!

MK-mama, click here for your crack!wallpaper of conceptual loverliness )

While I'm addressing SMRFFers, [livejournal.com profile] kitesareevil (or anyone else for that matter), do you remember what Stormlight's alias for her non-SM works was? I want to say it's got 'Quill' or something in it,  but I can't be sure. HEEEEEEEEELP!

[livejournal.com profile] dqbunny, how's it going? ^_^ I just wanted to see if you were busy or whatnot, since there are some Memories that didn't make it in the system yet (some new ones, and some REALLY old ones). >_> I would do it myself, but I'm afraid of screwing up, since there are so many categories, and I wouldn't know what to do (100%) for sure. Help?

[livejournal.com profile] janimelee, [livejournal.com profile] winterwing3000, and any other interested parties... WDKY24 should be ready for beta'ing in about a week or so. [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra gave me the historical info I needed tonight, so hopefully I'll have time this weekend to work on the story. Give me about a week to polish everything up and run some things by Kysra (by email, if need be), and then I can have people beta'ing it before it goes live... sometime hopefully before I go on Spring Break, as I will be away from my computer THE ENTIRE TIME I'm in Hawaii. Now how's that for dedication to a cause?

In any case, WDKY24 signifies the end of the Anubis/Pyramid of Light/movie arc, and sets the stage for my FAVORITE upcoming act, plus lots more tension, drama, and of course, STEAM! I'll be dropping bombshells here and there, you just need to know where to look!

I had better go... I need to shower in the morning, deposit my paycheck (apparently Direct Deposit can take more than 2 mos. to process... -_-;) and finish reading "The Binding Vine" by noon. :P But other than that, nothing to do... life is good. :)
azurite: Part of the "What Doesn't Kill You" series of fanfic icons, though not made by Mamono (wdky17)
In trying to write WDKY24, I have come across two major blocks:

(1) Anubis' real history. Who is he really, where did he come from, how did he get his powers the first time, and who was behind bringing him to Japan THIS time? What's his grudge against the Pharaoh, anyway? Why does he look so different, and yet he's familiar with Sphinxes, Pyramids, and other Duel Monsters? How would he fit into the AE saga, anyway?

(2) How the hell did Yami Yugi even beat Anubis when:
a) He didn't have Double Spell, he had Diffusion Wave-Motion in his hand
b) the Pyramid of Light card in the movie DOES NOT chain to Andro Sphinx and Sphinx Teleia to destroy them when it is destroyed, the way it does in the TCG
c) Kaiba tried the same method of destroying the PoL with the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, and it didn't work?
d) Freakin' Theinen had 35,000 ATK points! Not even Noa's Shinato had that much!

Well, so I filled in the plot holes. My obvious answers, that you should expect from WDKY24 without much fanfare:
a) Yugi actually DID have Double Spell in hand. He did not have DWM.
b) The Sphinxes, whose cards were NOT shown clearly in the movie, will have the sub-text/requirement of being destroyed whenever the PoL is destroyed/removed from the field.
c) That'll get explained. :}
d) Math. Lots of it. (Moi? But yes, I did it, and IT WORKS!)

I'm actually kind of proud of myself. Now if only I could WRITE the damn chapter instead of scribbling notes!
azurite: (Default)
As of this posting, WDKY23 is up at Fanfiction.Net and MediaMiner.org. It'll go up at Dragonfayth along with many other chapters soon!

I haven't done review replies in a while, and you might think that because I have the ability to use FFnet's new Review Reply option, I would take advantage of it. However, the thing with the FFnet Review Reply is that they are private, not posted anywhere on the site. With these, not only can you see which reviews I took special notice of, but which ones asked pertinent enough questions for me to answer. As always, keep your eyes peeled for interesting information or secret spoilers!

Note: I do not post all reviews that I receive here; only the ones that I feel I should reply to. For all reviews, I do NOT edit them for content/spelling/etc. in any way.

For lengthier reviews, I will insert my commentary where appropriate. The actual review will resume in italicized text.

If more reviews come in for this (or any older) chapter(s), then I will respond to them at the BOTTOM of this page, and indicate a “last updated” section here at the TOP. If there is no LAST UPDATED area, that means this post has not changed since the original post date.

This time, things are going to be different. )

Happy Birthday Shigure!

I feel like it's been a while since I updated with anything substantial. I don't even know what counts as "substantial" anymore. You be the judge.

(1) Back in pain. One of the friendly library janitors, George, gave me an Ibuprofen 800 mg, which should have knocked a featherweight like me off my feet, but I'm still in some semblance of pain, and not the least bit delirious. Curious! I hate having sciatica.

(2) Got along with Zack-- the co-worker who would previously-not-be-named. He's been irritating me off and on the past few days, but tonight it was just kind of cool, even if I did want to sock him about 3 times during the course of my time there (4 hours). We talked about cars and Star Trek on the way home. He was the one who offered to drive me in the first place, so I'm happy about that.

(3) RANMA! I randomly decided to edit "Brand New Day" and "Saisei" on Fanfiction.net, so I'm going to download those to my HD eventually and make sure that when I get the new "amc" (or whatever it might end up getting renamed) that the new versions are on there. I haven't really written Ranma in a while, but I might be tempted to get back into it, just because I love that last volume's plot line. The New Ranma 1/2 Project was a godsend back in the 90s when I was still reading Ranma desperately.

NOTE: I need to come up with a new name for my archive of all-fanfics-and-stuff-besides-SxA-because-that's-hosted-at-Dragonfayth. This means everything: Sailormoon, Full Metal Panic, Ranma, Inuyasha, Wild Act, Peach Girl, other Yu-Gi-Oh stuff that isn't SxA, and likely Star Ocean, Final Fantasy, etc. as well, because Blacklight Arcade existing as a separate site seems pointless to me.

So I need a name. Help?

I'll get started on "Saving Akane" edits next, but I don't know when I'll actually update the stories themselves. In the meantime, I've been reading this pretty good fic by Neon-Ronin, called "The Truth and the Tempest." It uses some "ooh! big words" at first, and has the occasional spelling error, but generally it's got a very good plot, with one OC so far who surprisingly IS NOT a Gary-Stu! I'm very impressed-- and here I thought the Ranma fandom might be near-to-dying! Better yet, the fic has 35 or so chapters, each of them of a decent length, so I've actually got a good read ahead of me.

Now the question is, whatever happened to Krista Perry and "Hearts of Ice"? Now that was a damn good story.

(4) I went to the doctor's today at around 2pm, and it was an extremely quick appointment. I had to get a PDC or something-- a test for tuberculosis. I have to check back on Tuesday (I should on Monday, except I have classes almost back to back, and I'll likely have my interview for Tokiwa on that same day). I turned in the health certificate today, even though I didn't have the chest x-ray section completed, but Kaiser won't due a chest x-ray unless the shot test comes out positive. -_-; Stupid Tokiwa.

(5) The Shonen Jump Sub Club is pissing me off. I didn't pay $29.95 for the login screen to tell me my name and password are incorrect, and then let me login on the OTHER page that you can only get when you get an error from the OTHER login screen. On top of that, they never update the site for the newest issue when it ships out to subscribers (like they should), so even for all the extras us subbers supposedly get, we don't see them until the site updates for the people that buy it off the newsstand (in 2 weeks). Same goes for non-sub stuff too, like contests and surveys. How irritating!

MEME ALERT: (stolen from [livejournal.com profile] a_white_rain)
If you make up titles for stories I didn't write, I will respond with details of those non-written stories. You can include specifics like fandom or pairing. (of course, it would be wise to suggest fandoms and characters that I actually KNOW...)

I can't think of anything else. :P
azurite: (screw it trashcan)
And now for a 2-question meme whose results are amazingly true:
I do know how to LJ-CUT, I do, I do! )

I finally managed to clean some junk off the computer; I need to somehow scan my Waseda application to be able to type in it, but short of scanning it to Adobe Acrobat, I don't know what to do. What about Word? I could do it in Photoshop too, but I'd rather not, because it'd take up so much space. Does anyone else have any ideas on what to do when you have a paper copy of something that needs to be typewritten? I can't get a digital copy (as far as I know)...

I tried to scan it before, but I think my Scanner software is being all stupid on me, so I might need to uninstall and reinstall it, along with a security update. But to do that, I had to delete some things-- I think Meteor Garden episode 3 was part of that. So I burned Episodes 1 & 2, but 3's missing, and I have 4-27 now. I also have to burn the HYD J-drama, some leftover Red vs. Blue episodes, Yu-Gi-Oh! (though I might keep Capsule Monsters eps 3 & 4 on my HD so I can upload them to seventh-star.net for anyone that wants them), and... blah, other stuff. I burned some good AMVs-- "The Light You Bring" (Eizou, to the song by Fuel) for Yu-Gi-Oh, "Listen to your Heart" (unknown creator, to the song by DHT) for FFX-2, and Studebunker Studio's "1985" (to the fabulous song by I-can't-remember-who) to Azumanga Daioh. There's a bunch of others. Me loves AMVs. :)

It seems I can't get anything done unless these other things get done first. I have to get Meteor Garden 3 again... though finding the torrent (as I usually don't save them) will be a pain in the neck. ;_; Anyone that has that one episode subbed, I would be much obliged. Then I can download the scant few episodes of Star Ocean EX that I'm missing, because the DVD package is incomplete and ridiculously overpriced, and Soldats did a better job anyway...

I've got so many damn ideas for [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses that I started to post one, trashed it (sort of), and saved it as a Private entry so I can edit it later on without ya'll seeing it in its horrific-ness. But on the bright side, if I don't make these all horrendously long, I should actually be able to get most of them done... soonish? I still have to worry about all these scholarships and applications, plus letters of recommendation, work, school work (including getting interviews done for my first news-feature in a week), and everything else.

Just when I thought the stress was over...! This is what I get for having a relaxing weekend. Damn it, I hope I sleep well tonight.
azurite: (mai's twilight fades)
No, we're not talking Hufflepuff Hentai, here. But for my [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses claim for Seto x Anzu, I've had this idea for theme #19: red (Kaiba the Virgin Sacrifice). I think I may have mentioned it once before, but it was last night that I actually had some ideas that would take the idea somewhere. And ooh, is it a good-to-be-bad story. I said I couldn't/wouldn't write hentai/smut, but mostly because it just wouldn't WORK with a story like "What Doesn't Kill You," or "Prophecy Girl." It *would* work with this... and TJOY, if you really want to know (*gigglesmirk*). The question is, could I? Would I? Should I?

DO YOU LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM!?

Oh, and Lois and Clark, Season 3 comes out on DVD on June 20th! w00t!

Ugh... you know, I'm not feeling too hot right now. It's not MS or PMS or a headache, cramps, (maybe asthma) allergies, or a stomachache. I just feel depressed. I think I want to go home, light a bunch of my scented candles in the bathroom, dump the rest of my mimosa bubble bath in the tub, light some incense and relax the rest of the night away. For once I have no homework. I have no desire to try and play the annoying SO2 right now, just to level up my characters, nor do I have anything extraordinarily pressing online-- no inspiration for fics (aside from the above, but you really have to be in the mood to write that) or icons, no ideas for comms.

I'm just out of it, sad, and feeling dead.

... Gek.

Yup.

azurite: (mock your fandom. han would.)
Whee! That pesky mySQL (my Sequel? That's how the guys at ITR say it. I've always called it "my Es-Cue-El.") error that was essentially ruining Blue Eyes and Apricots has been solved. ;_; It was all my fault too, for trying to include the config.php unnecessarily. I also didn't check where the paths led, so I fixed them so they led to the right place in the Enthusiast admin panel. Hopefully everything will work smoothly from here on out. I removed the flags modification, too. :P

I've still got to figure out how the affiliates images directory works, but in the meantime, the BEA affiliates still show up on the side bar, which I can edit at any time, should someone/someplace else wish to affiliate.

And I was thinking about WDKY24+ )

I was feeling a bit generous earlier, and I think I might do something nice for some people, so long as they notice this... hopefully not JUST for this, but you know. I'll make a complete moodset with up to 5 extra "moods" (for the ones LJ doesn't have, like "evil" and such) for the first person who requests it, with a specific theme to it-- that is, Yuugi Mutou from Yu-Gi-Oh, or eLouai-style Ryou Bakura. Also helpful would be size specification, preference as to file type (can do JPG, GIF for animations, or PNG), and whether or not you want text on the moodset. Especially helpful is if you have preference toward anime or manga, mixed bag, etc. If you have a SOURCE of images you'd like to use, or particular images per theme, please include them.

Note: I would publicly share this moodset, but it would essentially be made per-request. You need to have a Paid or Permanent (or Early Adopter, but I don't think anyone who's an EA is on my FL!) account to use a custom mood theme. You can read the LJ FAQ to find out how to install it.

I will NOT:
-do an entirely animated set
-do moods that are over 100x100 in size
-do moods that contain graphic or explicit content (because anyone can see the moods, even if YOUR journal is FO)

I have already made one mood theme, the one in use by [livejournal.com profile] rhapsody_dragon, of Seto Kaiba. In turn, she made me my mood theme, of Anzu Mazaki. :)

First come, first serve. I'll do no more than 3 mood sets, assuming I can handle that much within the next week. But the first one will be the one I start and complete before I start the 2nd or 3rd ones.

Weirdness of the day
Today was a great day, in terms of work. I got to work for 2.5 hours at the online pickup room (which we're now calling the "peacock room" because of how one of the onliners pronounces "pick-up"; it's very cute) which I enjoy very much, because I'm alone, I can eat, drink, and surf LJ. :D I rarely have any problems whatsoever.

I also deposited both my paycheck AND my financial aid check (which I got today!) in my checking account, so that should hit tomorrow. And for once, I don't have some insane urge to go out and buy something. I had enough money to buy a new Duel Pass since several days ago, but MEH! Why should I? I didn't feel like it. I won't go and buy a new PS2 and a mod chip with installation service; I'll wait until the PS3 comes out, and I'll buy THAT! (I wonder if the controllers are cross-compatible? I don't like the shape of the new controllers. Too N64-y.) I will be buying my textbooks, of course, but that's usual of me-- and I'll get a 10% discount! :D I should also buy Grandpa a CSUN hat and myself a nice kelly green CSUN tee (or hoodie? Which to pick!?) while I'm at it.

I do want some DVDs, though-- the Back to the Future trilogy, the Phantom of the Opera movie (2004)...

The weirdness started (of course) when I got online earlier tonight; [livejournal.com profile] cs_kasumi was reporting that [livejournal.com profile] slytherinjolie was plagiarizing slyfatale (not sure if that's an LJ name). And then, not hours later, [livejournal.com profile] cs_kasumi revealed that she WAS [livejournal.com profile] slytherinjolie! What the hell?! I don't get it. I really don't.

Oh, this isn't weird, but I have to share: The Greatest Story You've Never Read. I kid you not. It is for story writers and readers everywhere. ^^ Just go and read it.

Psueside? If it made it to [livejournal.com profile] fandom_wank (NEVAH FORGET!), it's genuine wank-gold! Apparently [livejournal.com profile] limeybean faked her own LJ death. This is what freaked me out about [livejournal.com profile] missandrony's post earlier; I wasn't sure whether it was real or not. I have a lousy sense of humor, see. I knew the whole cappuccino-machine-implant was ridiculous, but cute and funny... but I was never one to take jokes about death lightly. And I'm not even from one of those mass fandoms where I'm some sort of BNF and everyone knows my name! (Some people. Maybe. ^_~)

Anyway, I don't see the point. Pathetic cries for attention are just that-- pathetic. If you can't get attention where you want, seek it somewhere else where you're more likely to be received. Either that or get a personality makeover, because some things don't carry well no matter where you are. Sometimes it really "is not you, it's me" and by "me" I mean the speaker, which is you. (Did that make sense? In other words, don't be afraid of changing yourself. There are sometimes when you shouldn't have to, by any means, but honestly? No one can get along with everyone, so everyone has to adapt at some point.)

Apparently this is a pretty wide-spread thing, because there exists [livejournal.com profile] fake_lj_deaths. o_o You have to join to really get the funny going, but still!

I wonder what would be considered a more embarrassing incident-- getting railed and humiliated on [livejournal.com profile] fandom_wank (if you know, you'll go) or on LJDrama.org?

Change of topic...
Ugh, this is what I get for not paying attention to f_w for a while. Where did 'O RLY?' come from? (and the requisite children, 'YA RLY!' and 'CHO RLY?') And why does it always have to do with Hedwig (or grotesque versions of Hedwig with MULTIPLE SETS OF TEETH)!?

Oh, and Baba and Grandpa bought me "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Season 2" at Wal-Mart last week; I've been watching it on and off ever since. Now that I've been paid, I shall pay them back as promised. :D But teh yay for Lois x Clark! Makes me want to read nFic. Mmm, nFic.

Everyone is coming over tomorrow or Saturday (my dad being on Saturday) because of Baba's big birthday shebang-bang. Hopefully it'll be fun, without the usual drama-rama that family brings. The house has been totally cleaned up, minus the cleaning lady who was SUPPOSED to come to day, but she pulled a Houdini ('cept without the scantily clad assistant, the newspaper coverage, and such). I'm going to work from 12:00-6:30 tomorrow, my first "full" shift deserving of a lunch break tomorrow. Methinks I'll walk the block and a half to Papa John's and get myself Pizza, because I'm getting damned sick of pre-packaged tuna salad sandwiches and iced tea. :P
azurite: (what the shit is this!?)
zOMG. Crazy-ass idea.

Sailormoon: Pharaoh 90
Yu-Gi-Oh: Pharaoh Atemu.

Come on.

It's just asking to be fic'd. Somebody. Something. I need to make this idea more coherent. But damn. Why didn't I see it before?

Oh, and in case you missed my earlier voice post, here's a run-through of what's what... )

Anybody subscribed to my FFnet alerts will now know that I have written my first-ever Harry Potter fic; it was for the [livejournal.com profile] dmhgficexchange, and is titled "Secret of the Shrieking Shack." If the community name wasn't a dead-giveaway, it's a Draco/Hermione fic, but there's very little actual romance between them; more like snark and action. :) Go read it and tell me what you think of my first foray into HP-ficdom. I should probably post it at FictionAlley, [livejournal.com profile] dramione, and MMorg while I'm at it. o_o

Heh, [livejournal.com profile] mmagnet_ff, "cinemanga" sounds like cinnamon-flavored manga. o_o

HEY! So who wants to help beta WDKY23? I might as well just ask for chapter-by-chapter commitment, instead of general WDKY editors. I'm especially open to people who want to exchange one thing for another; that is, I'll beta for you if you beta for me. If you're stuck with an idea, want a grammar Nazi to clean up your narrative, or just want someone to bounce ideas off of, I'm your girl! I'm open to the usual fandoms, but my squick is slash-- I don't do it. So feel free to let me know. :)

I've worked a bit more on my [livejournal.com profile] iconfiend100 claim for Seto x Anzu, and so far, I have 14/100 done. It's a pathetic amount, considering how long I've had the claim, but I went for a very long while with NO iconspiration. Lately, it's been fic, fic, all the time, and even now, that's hard, because I don't want to disappoint with Ch. 24. I might be a bit overeager to get to 25+ (for reasons that must remain confidential), but I still want to make WDKY as a whole the best fic it can be.

Back to the icons... I'll work on some more as I get inspired and find source art (be it anime, manga, or fanart). I've got 49 ACs left, and the following themes: forgiveness (I wanted to find an image of Seto from the Battle City/Noa's World arc, when he's on his knees in front of Anzu. Anyone have said image?), soft (Romeo & Juliet, much?), loneliness, working, abandoned, hug, smile (Myco's song?), tears, sunshine (Mamono, how'd you do that effect on my WDKY icon, anyway?), innocence, so far away, stars (DMG!Anzu? But how would Seto work into that?), in the moonlight, tickle, sweet dreams, blue, honorable, walls, happiness, food, over the rainbow (the song, duh), sugar + spice, holiday, beginner's luck, forgotten, misery loves company (that Kysra art of drill sergeant!Seto making Téa do pushups...?), candy, present, starving, joy, heaven, 31 flavors, silk, keeping a secret, open doors, lace, forever and a day. Any input is appreciated!

Okay, so I managed to kinda-sorta-not-really figure out what's going on with the images for Azurelist, my very boring (as of this moment)-looking collective. Eventually I'll get a spiffy layout up, and it'll essentially link to all my sites, all the fanlistings I own (all of ONE at the moment), all the affiliates I have for all my sites (can be broken down if they're affiliates of an FL of mine) and fanlistings I've joined. I'll have to go to all those FLs and notify them of the change of URL...

But the stupid thing is, even if I've got the images showing up in Azurelist, they're not showing up in e3, the admin panel for the whole Enthusiast 3 script. I cannot figure out why. If I change one root path to work one place, it doesn't work someplace else. Why can't the damn install file be a bit more explicit about what path goes where, and what the format should be? When should it be /home/username/public_html/... and when should it be http://www.something.net?

Here's the confusing bit:
(1) You can go to Settings in the admin panel and change the path for the installation path, the root path (Web), the root path (Absolute), the Affiliates Images Directory (collective), the Joined images directory, and the Owned images directory. I changed the latter 3 to just plain affiliates/, joined/, and owned/, but while they show up in Azurelist, they don't show up in the Management section of the install (e3).

(2) For individual fanlistings, you can go to Owned, Edit, Database, and head to the Affiliates section, and select the Move Directory radio button. It says this: Please don't forget the trailing slash; this folder (absolute path, i.e., /home/user/public_html/images/) must have proper permissions set (i.e., must be CHMODed to 777). Well, like I mentioned before, there are two places where there is the affiliates folder. In the individual fanlisting folder (bea/affiliates) and in the collective folder. But it's having the same problem as above. o_o I don't know what to change it to! It keeps on trying to pull the images from http://www.seventh-star.net/e3/owned/2_ceruleansan_88x31a.gif when the image is really at http://www.seventh-star.net/azurelist/owned/2_ceruleansan_88x31a.gif. But I don't know where that e3 root path is coming from, except for the 'Installation path' which is SUPPOSED to be at e3... I think. AUGH!

Does anyone know what I could do? (Aside from copy/pasting the folders... a temporary, and annoying solution)

I'm looking forward to working more on WDKY, but I realize I should probably try and find some episodes online. I don't care if their dub or if some amazing person actually had the mojo and time to sub the original Japanese episodes... but I can't handle raws. Anyone know where I can go? GetItFido takes forever to load (if it loads at all).

I'm still confused about this whole metric system thing. I must have asked this a bazillion times, and I know I never would have left the chapter completely unconverted. I shouldn't be so much of a nitpicker, but I am. After all the conversions this silly sugar cookie recipe has been through, I doubt it could make a tasty batch after all. But that's what suspension of belief is for, right?

In any case, here's my main question:
What is used for DRY measure in the metric system? I've heard grams, I've heard mL and Liters, and I've heard metric tablespoons. Supposedly there's even a metric cup! I'm finding all this conflicting information though, so I would just like to know what metric folks have in their kitchens.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but grams is for weight, right? Ergo, if I had X amount of flour measured in grams, it would NOT be the same amount of brown sugar, right (in grams), because flour is lighter than brown sugar, yes? An equivalent WEIGHT of brown sugar would likely mean a SMALLER amount... if I've got this right.

So here's the recipe (sugar cookies):
1 1/2 cups sugar <--> 287.5 mL (should this be in grams?)
2/3 cup shortening or butter <--> 153 grams
2 eggs <--> SAME
2 tablespoons milk <--> about 30 mL
1 teaspoon vanilla extract <--> about 5 mL
3 1/4 cups flour <--> about 323 mL (should this be in grams?)
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder <--> 11.5 grams
1/2 teaspoon salt <--> 2.47 mL or 3.04 grams (which should this be?)

Now, do my conversions (done at http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/cookingconversions.asp, thanks [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra!) make sense? Would someone in a "metric kitchen" have the spoons, dry measure cups/spoons, and liquid measure cups/spoons to measure things like this?

*squeal!*

Yay! Okay, so today was splendid for several reasons:
(1) Training was short. I actually spent most of the time working on BEA and Dragonfayth, listing all the modifications I had made, need to make, etc. When it came to the "important stuff" I actually knew what I was talking about-- while some of the other people kept getting really easy questions wrong... ^^; I made my own lunch and ate it outside in the sun; the squirrels wouldn't stop bothering me though, and I had to keep giving them peanut M&Ms to get them to go away!

(2) I changed the script Blue Eyes and Apricots was running on to Enthusiast 3. If I ever decide to open up any other fanlistings (more like Taboolistings, because I'm fond of Love Triangles... though now that I think about it, I would totally run a [livejournal.com profile] shippers_club Fanlisting), I can do it easily. I can also manage Affiliates through Enth3, though right now I can't get the images to show up. So, for the time being, the BEA layout will stay the same. Once I get everything tweaked, I'll find something else to put in the current affiliates space. Any suggestions?

Note that I haven't updated the links yet, so if you go to BEA now, nothing will have changed. It's hosted in a new directory, so I have a few options:
* Create a redirect, so the new directory will stay the same, but anyone that tries to access the old directory will get booted there
* Rename the new directory to the old directory, AFTER I delete the old directory
-With this, I'd have to change some settings in Enth3, but I don't think it'd be too hard.

(3) I fixed the horrible layout error with Dragonfayth. Actually, Carissa from the eFiction boards fixed it; I just uploaded it. Until I get the other skins working smoothly, Romance will be the only skin offered at the site. I'm also trying to figure out why the Poll Block won't initialize; other than that, everything looks to be working okay on eFiction. Please try and upload your stories, just so I can make sure that the Copy/Paste 403 error was a security or timeout issue, rather than a script issue!

I still have to re-add some of the old mods. As always, here's a brief list:
* Character page (link on main menu)
* LiveJournal and FFnet profile links
* Advanced TinyMCE with Compressor (I have the compressor; I just need to upgrade it to Advanced. The security update was apparently part of the 2.0.3 upgrade)

The Poll and Featured Author blocks ARE installed; I just need to figure out what the initialization error is with the Poll and get an image for the Featured Author block title.

I think there might still be a bit of an error with the category sorting (that is, Pre-Duelist Kingdom doesn't want to go before Duelist Kingdom in the listings), but that's really an aesthetic thing. You guys don't really care what order the categories are in, do you?

Up and coming...
I've got to create and host a torrent for the Full Moon o Sagashite Anime soon; I realize it's just been picked up by licensors, but a) there's no telling when the first DVD will come out, b) there's no telling if it'll be hybrid. I'd love to trust Viz, but... c) who the hell knows what they'll do with the songs? Besides, I promised someone over on [livejournal.com profile] meroko. I also need to find torrents for a few random scanlations of the manga; I already own all 7 volumes in the Japanese, and I'm sure as hell not going to pay twice their worth to get the English translation from Viz. I'm only missing translations from a few chapters, anyway.

Icons, icons, icons. I have to get back into making icons.

Azurelist? Obviously, if I maintained more FLs, I would have more to show off at Azurelist, my new "site" for my fanlistings... that is, a collective. In the meantime, it's a very bland looking page, so I'm not giving access to anyone. :P Hey, what if I made a White Rose Society FL? You know, a fanlisting for The Big 10 Azureshippers? I'm talking about:
(1) [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra
(2) [livejournal.com profile] geniusgirl
(3) [livejournal.com profile] atlantian_magic (Atlantis2)
(4) [livejournal.com profile] rhapsody_dragon (Mamono)
(5) [livejournal.com profile] svelterose
(6) [livejournal.com profile] winterwing3000
(7) [livejournal.com profile] mmagnet_ff (MischiefMagnet)
(8) [livejournal.com profile] wickeddawn (Harlequine)
(9) AudibleHush (no LJ? Bummer.)
(10) [livejournal.com profile] the_sweet

I'd say the bunch of us are the ones that contribute to the pairing most often (be it fics, discussion, websites, communities, art...), the most dedicated (we've loved the pairing when it was CRACK!), and likely the most insane (who else do you know that warped an entire RPG to suit their love of azureshipping?). Some of us are MIA (Harlequine! COME BACK!!) or otherwise busy/uninspired, but I think the dedication still remains. And between the 10 of us, we probably have a shizload of adoring fans. ^^; <--ego!!

*grin* I hope to get working on the rest of WDKY23 soon-- to prove to people that I'm not just rehashing the movie. There will be some serious plot twists. I'll admit that the Ani-Manga for the movie is a helpful resource,  but obviously, there are things that change everything... for example:
* Malik's presence
* Duke's presence
* Pegasus "knowing" about Kaiba coming to Duelist Kingdom to get the BEUD and PoL ('But HOW!?' you ask?)
* Isis being concerned about the Anubis exhibit, and how it left Japan without her say-so
* Raphael, Alister, and Valon somehow being connected to the Anubis exhibit
* Bakura working behind the scenes, following everyone and preventing his host from coming out
* Chieko & Serenity's presence(s)

I wouldn't go this far and tell everyone about these things unless I thought no one was noticing them. And some people said they were seriously bored with WDKY as of late, as if it's becoming one big tirade. That makes me sad, because to me, I'm getting to the part that I've been itching to write forever!

I adore this icon I'm using right now, but I totally want more WDKY icons. *peers* Any volunteers? :D (I suck at manips, and while I do have fanart for WDKY, it's for chapters that aren't out yet, so... ^^;;)

Uh... yeah, that's all I can think of for now. Not much is going on.

Okay, so I finally got around to updating the eFiction archive on Animanga Collision. I've decided to scrap the idea of separate sites, and just work everything together under the masthead of Animanga Collision. It's cute, it's old school, and it's going to have tons of stuff. So far, there aren't too many anime or manga listed, but that'll obviously change as I remember what I know about everything. I don't aim for AMC to be the end-all, be-all site for every anime or manga I've ever been in... and there will be games there as well, such as FFX, Star Ocean 2, and so forth.

It's planned to only be a one-person site; that is, I'll be the only author there. There's already wide-open archives out there, though I'm open to other people signing up and commenting/reviewing, or possibly in the future, submitting rants and essays. I'll be taking care of everything else, from character profiles and data to fanfics.

Right now, I have the following "Story Types" defined, and I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on what I might write about a fandom:
* Essays (could include things like 'ship manifestos)
* Rants
* Fanfics, including:
   * Shortfics (Oneshots)
   * Crossover Fics
   * Alternate Reality Fics
   * Fusion Fics
   * Remixes
   * Songfics

The Genres would stay the same as for Dragonfayth, but they wouldn't apply for things like Essays and Rants. The latter two categories would be placed under their fandom and in their appropriate sub-category, but again, this is a whole hierarchy I haven't quite decided on yet.

It's still buggy, because I essentially copied all the files (inc. mods) from the Dragonfayth install, and not all the database/CHMOD changes have been made. I guess I'll have to discover them as I go along. So far:
* category changes error - Same with Dragonfayth. I can't rearrange the categories, and when I try to change the category description text, I get an error: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: build_formjs() in /home/***/public_html/amc/admin/categories.php on line 156
* poll block initialization error: A fatal MySQL error was encountered. Error: (1050) Table 'amc_fanfiction_poll_votes' already exists

...And you know what? I don't like unreliable people. I know, I know, there's REAL LIFE. It sucks, it's horrible. That's why you don't make promises you can't keep. And I'm just one of those people that is very hard to please. I'm also a former nail-biter, teeth-grinder, and hair-chewer. I have this great chapter for WDKY all ready to be posted, and every single person that has said they will look it over or beta it has either forgotten about it/me or gotten so busy that they couldn't even drop me a line with a quick apology.

I'm very tempted to just post it as-is, but I'm also afraid of the backlash, because I know there are things I don't spot when I proofread my own story. So here is my desperate plea for attention, help, and a beta-reader (or two)! WDKY22 needs an editor. Any volunteers? (Link  goes to [livejournal.com profile] betasquad. Not a  member? Join!)

Okay, I'm not sure who to blame for this one-- Vince for bringing me to Bob's party, Marc for playing against me first, Jimbo, or Christal. Regardless, I bought Katamari Damacy the day before I left for San Diego-- with my GameStop bucks, it was just a little over $12-- quite a sweet deal, if you ask me! But of course, I'm addicted.

And I'm still stuck on Make A Star 4, which is the same level I played to and got stuck on before. I've ranged from the low 50s to 99.8cm-- so blasted close! But alas, I just can't make it up to that 1m mark! ;_; How irritating! I did manage to work up a sort of stratagem: get the caramels, dice, and pins first, then the mah-johng tiles. Follow up with the batteries and then the erasers, and roll off the table to get the parsley, Lego blocks, round batteries, and mice. Get big enough to pick up Mandarin peels, shogi tiles, and the mini-Pylons. When all the small stuff from the living area is stuck, grab the books separating the main room from the porch, and grab the watermelons, the soda cans, and the flowers. Head around the side of the house underground; grab a few spiders, some rats and mice, and the little Jumbomen. Head up into the kitchen/bathroom area, and try to roll up to the counter to get the present. Move onto the boy's room and grab some toys, and then drop out the balcony to the garden. Grab the microphones and fireworks, and see if you can grab some potted plants and buckets. Try and roll up to street-level, and start grabbing balls, cats, briefcases... and then I always run out of time. Sometimes if I can manage, I wander around in the garden to grab cucumbers, rulers, birds, and more cats...

My policy at the moment is to spend 10 minutes (the time you're given to make the 1m Katamari) reviewing [livejournal.com profile] fourhouseunion applications, WDKY22, and then go back to Katamari. o_o

Beat it! And I made Cygnus too, although I had too many ducks.

Something that's been on my mind about Scott. )

It has occurred to me that anyone that could possibly tell Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa about their mother (Padmé Amidala) is dead. The list:
* The Jedi (massacred by the clones & Anakin)
* Obi-Wan ("died" at Darth Vader's hand)
* Yoda (died before he really told anything to Luke outside of his Jedi training)
* Bail Organa (died in the explosion of Alderaan)
* Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (duh.)
* The Emperor/Chancellor Palpatine (duh 2.0)

Who else was there that DIDN'T get killed in RotS? I would cite Jar-Jar, but who the heck knows where in the galaxy he might be? And even if there was someone else --such as the new Queen, or another Senator from Naboo-- how would said person know/seek out Luke and Leia, and why would the two of them believe whatever s/he/it had to say? How would the connection to Naboo even be made?

Fact is, I just started thinking of this out of the blue, because I think a "Luke and Leia find out about their mother" fic would be rockin'. But I'm terrified of looking into the Star Wars fandom for a fic that fits this profile, and I sure as hell won't start another fic. But hey, if there are fans out there, I'm open to recs.

Oh, and Blue Eyes and Apricots is up. I mentioned that in my mailing list, but I thought I'd give it a shout out here, too. All new content, new layout, new affiliates, and more. I'm still waiting on Garfour's response for the art, TAFL's response for the fanlisting's "official" status, and any new affiliates.

Finally, KYSRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The scanner shipped today. :)
