Apparently a lot of popular LJs are getting hacked. Someone takes control of a moderator's account and pretends the journal is closing, making a post indicating that, and links out to other sites with Cyrillic encoding that have keylogger viruses embedded in them.

Whether this has any particular connection to random Cyrillic users (apparently they're bots, which LJ knows about and refuses to do anything about) friending you, I don't know, but I don't friend them back, and I don't recommend you do, either. Why give someone you don't know access they don't deserve? (Hell, why assign a bot a pronoun IT doesn't deserve?)

For more details, check out this post by [livejournal.com profile] acari here, along with this post by [livejournal.com profile] upstart_crow. I especially recommend downloading one of the Backup options offered in [livejournal.com profile] acari's post, because if this happens to you or your journal, it'll be a while before you can get access back, and most likely your LJ entries will be gone.

I use xJournal for regular blogging on Mac OS X, but it doesn't back up as many things as some of the other options do. The Python script is easy to use if you've got an Admin account; I just ran it from Terminal and it's chugging away. LJBook looks cool, but I imagine large journals would be the size of encyclopedias and, should you choose to print them, would cost a pretty penny. Heck, they'd probably be very hefty in MB or GB, too.

I'd also recommend copying your Tag Cloud and Memories List down, so if you DO end up needing to rebuild, at least it'll be easier than trying to remember from nothing.

Other people have already been hacked and lost close to everything, and these bots/hackers/whoever seem to be targeting large and/or popular communities. Know that in ANY of the communities I own or maintain, or any of my journals (all 3 of them), I would NEVER EVER EVER delete my entries or leave LJ without a very lengthy explanation post-- a public one. If it had to include links, it would be links to a site on my OWN domain, not a Cyrillic one.

And seriously? Don't let yourself become vulnerable to these kind of things in the first place. Make sure your anti-virus is up-to-date and running and that you have spyware/malware protection. Verify that both programs (because most "suites" of anti-virus and anti-spyware are too bloated and don't catch everything anyway; better to just get a basic "anti-virus" and a basic "anti-spyware") are legit-- not some random thing on your screen that popped up saying "YOU MAY HAVE SPYWARE11!!eleventy!!"
azurite: (darwin power!)
Darwinism is the philosophy that the strongest survive-- the survival of the fittest, really. And in high school, it's a dog-eat-dog world. Or maybe I should say eagle-eat-eagle?

Anyway, so today during registry (homeroom) I'm reading the bulletin as per usual (just so the dipwads in there can't complain to me if they didn't receive such and such form or hear some message). I note this part about a girl named "Luyin Zhu" who received a $1500 scholarship. There's a quiet girl in my class by the name of "Li Hua Zhu" and, well... ^///^ I got them mixed up. Major embarrassment. When Sara, a friend of Li Hua's started shaking her head at me, I should have shut up. I know Luyin-- she was in ROTC with me. So I'll be cursing myself until I die: baka baka baka baka baka!

My friend brought a puppy stuffed animal to school today, and lent it to a mutual friend of ours who's in my math class. This mutual friend was really out of it these past few days, and I couldn't get her to give a peep of info on what was wrong. Knowing that life can sometimes just *sucks* I didn't persist-- but it was getting annoying how I had to start solving all these equations on my own... and we had less than 15 minutes to find a reasonable solution and post it! She finally 'fessed up and said there were some issues at home-- nothing really clear, but I got it. But meanwhile, while she was stared off into space, I dognapped the puppy and squealed "Puppy!" at the nearest group. They stared at me for a minute and a half, and then I hid my face behind the pup and laughed. -_-;;

The guy that I used to like and now am starting to detest because of his immaturity (go back two entries and see what I mean) sent me an email via the mailing list we're both on-- the one for the anime club at the local state university (that he's the new prez of). He sounded so damn intelligent in there, I wanted to wring his neck!! So I'm going tonight to this first meeting in months, and I know he'll be there. I have other friends there, its true, but I was so mad at him this weekend, and he was being such a f**king jerk that I really don't know how I'll react. I know so far I've been a bit bubble-headed in that I'm out to look good (I've donned the black leather motif again, with the theme: Dark Fire) and knock the socks off this @$$. A white silk dress shirt with french cuffs, mega-maroon lipstick, brilliant eyes, leather pants and jacket, silver bracelet and blue crystal earrings... and my nice rose-patterned, see-through shirt under that, with a sky blue tank underneath. Too far? /.\ Stupid boys. The damn DDR song "So Many Men" has been stuck in my head for a while now...

And if that wasn't the worst of the worst, lately I've been so tired when I get home that I fall asleep and don't wake up until some ungodly hour of the morning when it's too late to do my homework! What's more, my stupid computer keeps on starting up showing my old desktop, trying to start up programs (different each time I boot up) that don't exist (I checked) and changing all my *.txt and *.doc files into gibberish! AAAUGH! -_- I love computers, but they suck too... ;_;

Suddenly I feel as if I've gone waaaaay off topic... kekke...

This is another random-type entry... not with funny quotes or anything (^^;) but stuff.

SirCam Virus-- like you haven't heard of it. It spreads to computers using emails found in cached (visited) webpages in your Temporary Internet Files/History, and contacts in your Address Book. The email is from someone who has you in your address book, or from someone *else* they have in their address book... it's all a bunch of confusion, and hundreds of thousands of emails have been sent out with people freaking over what to do. Someone basically says "Hey, how are you? I send this file to you for your advice..." blah, blah blah. Don't open the attachment. I've gotten 20+ emails of this... even in Spanish, and made the mistake of trusting the sender, even if I didn't know them. Heck, the fact that some of the attached files were Sailormoon images threw me off! McAfee, Symantec, and Kapersky all have nifty removers for the worm, so if you got it, go to one of their sites and get rid of it-- it can either fill up your hard drive with copies of itself, or delete everything on the C:\ drive. So take your pick-- trashed computer, or clean computer. =)

First Time Job-- I've never had a job before. Thanks to one of my friends, I landed one where I come in when I want, leave when I want, etc. All I do is type and scan. I sit in a crowded little office, and I get free lunch from the Chinese restaurant nearby. But I'm on a commission. 15%, which is pretty damn good, in terms of commission. I'm doing my job, promoting the site (www.musicboxsf.com) ^_^; and scanning, etc. But I haven't gotten paid, and the closer we get to school starting, the more freaked out I am about cash. I need supplies, I need to redecorate my room, pay off bills... only in my junior year, and I'm practically off the deep end! What'll I do come college?!

Everything... reminds me of that guy I was crushing on back in freshman year. I've seen him all of TWO times (maybe three) since he graduated, and it's annoying me! I'd rather think about my dog (who is supposedly on a ranch in Orgeon!) or my late sister (whose voice I cannot even remember, damn me!) or where I plan to go for college (I think somewhere with a good Journalism major and Creative Writing course) or what I'm going to do for this damned Leadership Conference in August, or... or... $%^$^! AUGH!
Writer's Block for one of my prized fanfictions... and no response from my MLs. Geh. Where does inspiration come from, anyway?

Banana Yoshimoto and Amy Tan are my favorite authors. Am I weird for liking the writings of Asian women more than "classics" and heavy romance novels? Oh, and everyone and their sister's telling me to read the Virgin Suicides, but what is it about??

... sigh... that's it, I guess... *wanders and sees if any _nice_ people left her notes*
Bai bai!
