Where are you, girls?
Nov. 18th, 2007 04:38 pmI'm looking for girls/women who have played FFX-2. As you may know, I'm doing a paper for my JOUR 371 class, "Women, Men and Media," titled Gendered Language and the Double Standard in the Final Fantasy X and X-2 Games.
I've got a lot of research so far, but I'd like the voices of some female gamers out there to help liven my presentation up a bit (and I don't mean literal voices, though if you want to submit a *.wav or *.mp3 of you SPEAKING, that's fantastic). I'd like any or all of these questions answered, if you have the time...
(1) Did you play FFX? Why or why not? If you did play it, did you finish it? Why or why not?
(2) Why did you play FFX-2?
(3) Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?
Thank you....

Date: 2007-11-19 01:15 am (UTC)1) Yes, I did play FFX, mainly because I've been a fan of the series since it re-shaped the Playstation (and I later went back and played the SNES versions) and was eager to see how the first one for the PS2 would fare. I was certainly not disappointed, and I found the Sphere Grid system to be a lot of fun once I got the hang of it. And I've actually yet to finish it, but that's only because Seymour on Mt. Gagazet is a beast and my party isn't leveled up enough. But I'll get back to it, someday! Or I'll just start over to experience the whole game again since it's been so long.
2) The first genuine sequel to a Final Fantasy game? How could I NOT play it?! The fact that it was focused entirely on a group of girls was a factor too, I'll admit, because up until that point the closest I'd gotten to playing as a female, aside from FFVI, was the few times in the series when you could play as the female love interest (while the Main Character is out of commission for whatever reason)
3) I LOVED it. I liked it even more than FFX to be honest. This game combined some real lightheartedness with a storyline that was every bit as deep and engaging as its predecessor. The Dress Spheres were fun and really powerful and the mini games were insanely addictive. Add in the new characters, all of whom add humor and heart to the game and it's just plain FUN to play. The story of Lenne was so tragic too. It was just a beautiful game all around.
I also liked seeing Yuna on a quest to find her true love, which stood out nicely against all those other RPGs that are preoccupied with the males on quests like that.
...Now I really want to go back and play it!
I LOVE VIDEO GAMES LOL
Date: 2007-11-19 01:47 am (UTC)Answer: Yes I have played FFX, Why I played FFX because my brother is a huge fan of the video game. After a while of watching him play, I saw it had a really good story and plot to it and it had amazing graphics. I also loved the characters and the amazing creaturs it had. It was my first final fantasy experiance. I did actually get to finish it after long months of waiting on my brother finishing it, but I still never got to see the ending first hand until i finished it myself. Why I finished it was because I was determined to know what would happen to Tidus and his journey.
(2) Why did you play FFX-2?
Answer: I played FFX-2 because I had heard rumors that Tidus would be returning. I had really tried to imagine how Tidus would of return after he had disapeared from the original game. Plus it was another way of recovering old memories and wonderful characters (including new ones!)
(3) Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?
Answer: I did enjoy it, yes. The only thing I did not enjoy was probably...well, maybe the style of battling? It just didn't stick with me as FFX did but I was able to go pass that and enjoy the game and story through and through.
I hope I helped you well enough :3

If you have written commentary, that will work too, especially if something happens with the *.mp3 and it can't be used or doesn't work.
