I am the green fairy!
Aug. 28th, 2003 02:09 amHm, being THAT bored on the Internet, and only slightly tired, I decided to check out the SFSU General Education reequirements page. Is it too presumptuous for me to want to plan everything out now, when I'm not even sure if I've been accepted (even though everyone going there says it's a given that I will get in)? So... yeah.
I'm not sure if I did everything right, though. They don't make things very easy to understand. I guess I have to check out all these course descriptions and see. I haven't seen anything that explains what AERM or LLD means though. Can any Gator out there help me out?
Before I can take any English courses, I have to take the placement test. Not to sound cocky, but I'm pretty sure I can get a 151 or better on it. Or at least, I hope so. I haven't gotten THAT out of practice, right? ^^; Well, assuming I do get 151 or better, I get into English Composition 114, with 3 units required (I guess that means they have to meet at least 3 times a week or something?).
For Oral Communication, it's SPCH 150. Critical Thinking's "Writing Logically (ENG 200)" sounds interesting enough... and for math (AUGH!) I suppose Elementary Statistics (MATH 124).
Then there's this whole big blob of things for physical and biological sciences (PBS!) -- I picked:
Food Chemistry Fundamentals (Lab) - CHEM 110 -- I changed this to a lab, since I need one lab course here.
The World of Plants - BIOL 150 -- This way I don't have to dissect anything, right?
Mythic & Scientific Thought - NEXA 281 -- and, finishing off the categories (A, B, and C, with 3 units of each course listed) is something interesting-- but I can't take it until I take the other two. And I have to have at least TWO different departments intersparsed throughout the A, B, and C categories-- which I do. CHEM, BIOL, and NEXA. :)
Let's see... for Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) I picked--
A: Anthropology of Women -- ANTH/CST 590 ; WOMS 595
B: Introduction to World Affairs -- IR/SS 104
C: Leisure and Contemporary Society -- REC 420 -- Sounds interesting enough... picked it just now. @_@ But *stifles a giggle* "Lesiure" and "420?" Am I reading between the lines too much? This is California...
For Humanities and Creative Arts, I have 5 possible categories to choose from. It says in the requirements, "If elected, a minimum of two units should be selected in HCA Categories B and D." I guess that means if I *want* to, I can pick a course that has two units in Cats. B and D. Which is no problem, as you'll see below...
A: Greek and Roman Mythology - CLAS 360 (FOR SURE!!)
B: Life on TV: A Critical View - BECA 201
C: Journalism and the Mass Media - JOUR 200 (OF COURSE!)
D: Intro to Creative Writing - CW 101 (HEHE ^_^)
E: Japanese 102/103 - I'm not sure which one I qualify for, according to university standards. I know I'm not supposed to be in Elementary Japanese, that's for sure-- I already know Hiragana, Katakana, and a good deal of kanji... but not a LOT of kanji. So... I don't know where that puts me. Since it's a daily course though, it counts as 5 units! Whee! I could also try my hand at Japanese Reading/Grammar or Modern Japanese Fiction. =)
Likewise, I've shown an interest in the roots of language, in Latin! It's also a daily course, though... and I'd have to take Elementary Latin. =P So am I biting off more than I can chew yet?
The rest of the GenEds can't be fulfilled until you achieve junior year status though. *sigh* So that's it. Any commentary from the collegiates reading this? I'd like to know? *twitters nervously*

- Ballet I - DANC 163 (Surprised? So am I)
- Some choir course (there's Basic Music: Voice; Singing for Self-Expression; University Chorus, Women's Chorus, and Chamber Chorus. I don't know about any prereqs for the latter 3)
