Okay, you can ignore this if you're not remotely interested in Star Ocean; that's what this is about. I'm reading Ian Kelley's walkthrough of SO1-- and basically SO2 is an "updated" version-- better graphics, badder enemies, and a SLIGHTLY altered plot. Here's how it works--

You play Ratix, a Fellpoolian guy who goes 300 years back in time with Iria Silvestori, Ronixis J. Kenni, and Milly Kiliet in order to find a cure for the biological parasite virus spreading amongst their people. Along the way, you meet up a bunch of other people, including--
* Cius Warren, a very muscular guy that uses a two-sword technique, much like Ashton
* Perisie, a cute catgirl that provides comic relief and powerful "KITTY" attacks (a'la Precis)
* Joshua Jerand, a loner-type Featherfolk person, or an angel, who has had something terrible happen to his family (a'la Dias).

I pointed out a lot of other game similarities earlier, but check these out:
* The first big place you have to get to is a place called Portmis, a port town that will let you get to a place known as Astral. But you can't cross the ocean just yet; nope, there's talk of pirates delaying ships from leaving. Much like how the "mysterious storms" and such prevented you from crossing in Herlie at first.

* Your initial reason for traveling with Cius is to search for "treasure." Once you've found it and gotten into a couple of brawls, you can ask him to join your party (a'la Celine).

* The obvious-- most of the items are the same, with the exception of those that might not have been translated properly, or are simply mundane versions of the SO2 items. In my current SO2 inventory, I have something like 315 items, and many of them have 20 of each. And there's MORE. That doesn't include equipment or accessories, though it does included unequipped equipment, unusable items, and items that can only be used with Specialties or Item Creation. "Mundane" Items in SO1 include Magic Card (Fountain Card, Silence Card, Hexagram Card, etc.) and Magic Colors (no idea... maybe Magical Drops?)

* It's very easy to make "stupid mistakes" in the game. In the Hoffman Ruins, there's lots of levers that are attached to bombs; out of eight bombs, only one of them leads to a secret area. In SO1, there's a Pirate's Hideout with noxious gas. When you beat a pirate and get a special Igniting Stone, you can blow up the gas-- but if you're standing in the middle of it, you go boom too. >)

* Cius makes a remark about Perisie in the game; he says her people are "antisocial" and "unemotional." She is a lesser Fellpoolian; it makes her similar to Leon, who I think *is* pretty antisocial. Being a kid though, he's pretty darn emotional. I think it'd be funny if Leon's favorite instrument were a flute or ocarina, since that's what Perisie played when they met her in the dungeon.

* Iria likes to drink. When everyone arrives at Astral, she asks about the alcohol and how strong it is. ^^; This reminded me of the scene in Giveaway where Opera is a little drunk. With her blonde hair and high-cut outfit, Iria really reminded me of Opera.

* Useless items? Yep, even in SO1. In SO2, they were "Fanzines," which couldn't be made, only bought/pickpocketed, and sold, and not even for that much. In SO1, one useless item was a song book from the band "Stalkers" in the fighting town (sounds familiar...) of Tatoroy. In Tatoroy, you can also win a special book known as an "Ougi" which is, pretty much a "book of knowledge." Kind of like the skill books, in that you learn something (the special ougi moves) if you win/get it.

* Ronixis is a skeptick about a lot of things-- especially religion. Quite scientifically-minded, it takes the healer girl Milly to knock some "sense" into him, that what he doesn't see doesn't necessarily mean it's nonexistent. She suggests he learn "magic" and see for himself; for her part, she just knows healing magic.

* You pick up items on the way to towns, just like you do when you defeat enemies in SO2. Catch is, you get what is considered "rare" in SO2 pretty easily in SO1. You get ?MINERAL (?GEM in SO1) which turns out to be "Rune Metal" on your way to the third or fourth town in SO1. Pretty early!

* PUFFY MAKES HER APPEARANCE! She's in Tatoroy, asking you if you want to play a virtual game. She's pretty annoying, and your choices will either infuriate you (or her) or lead you in circles. Still, some of the choices are pretty fun... she gets mad easily though. Puffy gets into a fight with Ashlay in a PA later on too, which is funny-- it almost sounds like something Precis would say to Bowman. =P

* You hear about a special swordsman who is rumored to be very good, and uses some of the same techniques as Ratix does. His name is Ashlay. ^^;; Sound familiar again? It's like Lacour all over again, with people talking about Dias. Dias happens to use the more advanced versions of many of Claude's techniques. In SOEX, he's the one that teaches Claude the "Air Slash" in the first place.

* Fear, the chick that resembles Chisato, happens to be the leader of the Astral High Guard-- or whatever you want to call the elite, butt-kicking force. I find it amusing that her name is FEAR MEll. ^^; Yes, I lowecased the last two Ls on purpose. It looks like it's saying "FEAR ME!!" ^_^v Go Fear!

* How pointless... the designers didn't make a buggy game, they just made it annoying on purpose. Like in SO2, there's several rooms and halls in SO1 that can only be entered once, have to be triggered into opening/closing/moving after a certain event, and plenty of dead-end places that look "secret" but don't go anywhere or have anything cool in them. -.- Feh.

* If Cius is in the party when you take an underground cave route to get to Astral Castle, you run into Fear-- who has killed two cave guards that identify her as the leader of the Astral High Guard. o_O She berates Cius for a bit, and then says that his FATHER (Warren) is the leader of the Astral High Guard. Cius is apparently an embarassment to the town and his father, but people had high hopes for him. (Claude much, anyone?) The weird thing is, if you have Ashlay instead of Cius, when you run into Fear, she refers to her adoptive father Ryas as being the head of the High Guard. o_O So if she's referring to the same person, then Ryas Warren is Cius' biological father, Fear's adopted father... etc.

* Okay, so it turns out that they are one and the same-- and if you don't have Cius in your party, but Ashlay, Ryas admits to him in a PA that he asked Cius to be the captain of the First Battalion. See, the world is at war with the minions of Makai, the demon world, but not officially-- they're just sending out troops to patrol. Cius was meant to be the captain of one of these patrols, but vehemently refused, and ran away. Ryas was upset by this, hoping Cius would understand that he didn't want to give the position to Cius simply because he was his son, but because he was skilled (Hmm, also sounds vaguely Claude-ish). Fear had a crush on Cius, and now that he's gone, can't hear of him anymore. o_O I figure if you actually had Cius, and Fear was such a biatch to him, there'd be good reason for it! Ah yes. Fear was possessed by something, and with Cius in your party, there's a slightly humorous scene where he corrects the evil-fear's grammar. Fear is prone to using the male-form of speech, with words like "Omae" instead of "Anata" and so forth... that's how Cius knows she's a fake. =D

* Ancient species? Okay, so the whole thing in SO1 takes place on Fellpool, 300 years in the past. The majority of the party members are from this time, except Ronixis, Iria, Ratix, and Milly. While on the old Fellpool, they hear tell of an ancient species long since extinct, that's left its mark in various ways on the planets; old artifacts, ruins of a temple, and so forth. In SO2, when Celine gets ahold of the Ancient Treasure (the old manuscript) and brings it to Linga, you find out that it is from an ancient civilization too! I think it differs depending on the game and the anime, though.

* Free SP! Some people in SO1 award you SP, or skill points (specialty points) as treasure-- and there are places where you get SP just for going inside. The closest thing to that in SO2 is when you do the Bullying Battle in the Fighting Arena/Fun City, and get SP instead of treasure.

* Difference in the game is that, up until the first serious dungeon, the Parji Temple, you haven't fought ANY magic-using enemies whatsoever. I'm sure by an equivalent point in SO2, you have. Catch is, the first ones you fight are Magius-- the most powerful spell-casting characters in SO2! So they're uberweak in contrast to whatever spellcasters were originlly around on Fellpool, 300+ years before SO2 even took place!

* In the same place, you run into spirits of the ancient people-- known as "Rune." They know right off the bat that Iria and Ratix are from the future, as they refer to them from "beings from another world," while Joshua and Cius/Ashlay are "beings from our world." So I guess even though that Joshua is a Featherfolk, and Cius/Ashlay is a Highlander, it's common to have multiple humanoid species on Fellpool; each different species stays to itself, most of the time. This is why it's unusual to have an adventurous Featherfolk and a traitorous (in Cius' case) Highlander. Anyway, this reminds me of the situation in Eluria Tower in SO2, when the TWM recognize Rena, right off the bat, as Nedian. Of course, she did display her healing powers, but you'd think it would have been obvious anyway. They recognized Opera/Ernest and Claude as foriegn beings... besides, they're these all-powerful bioweapons-- why couldn't they use their superscanning abilities to find out Rena was Nedian? After all, Chisato's Nedian, and she doesn't have healing powers-- not all Nedians do!

* Some meteorite, eh? After you get transported out of the dungeon, you have to head west, to a country known as Van. On the way there, you see a bright light in the sky, and then... it plummets to the Earth. A'la Sorcery Globe? Well, Ratix calls it "the ship of the stars," and talks about how there was a spaceship that crashed near his hometown of Clatos. Of course, this makes things awkward for the 300-years-in-the-past people with them... Anyway, as it turns out, the "meteorite" is indeed another spaceship, this one of the mysterious third party that started the whole war between the humans and the Rezonians by targeting Roak/Fellpool as the target for its bioweapon of petrification. So they're running out of time. Much like how the Sorcery Globe wasted everything around it, contaminated the cities near it, and sent monsters about the entire planet. Once the party reached El, time was running out. o_O

* Hey jealousy... Iria gets insanely jealous of Marvel when she hears about her from Milly later on. Marvel is the super sexy, stylish enchantress that Ronixis is now traveling with, which is why Milly's not with them still. Much like how Rena was jealous of Celine when they first met-- this is much more apparent in the anime and manga than in the game, especially with the part where Rena thought Celine and Claude kissed! o_O! So despite Ratix having traveled this long with Iria, the two of them are still dedicated to their respective companions. Though I think Milly is in love with Dorn, who is back on Roak/Fellpool 300 years in the future, all nice and STONED. -.-;

Ugh, this is getting too long. There's still more of the walkthrough, plus parts 2 and 3. LATER!

WAIT A SEC! MORE THINGS NON RELATED TO SO2/SO1!
* The chick Amber had for some icon (I'm sure it was her)-- a chick holding a gun up at you? It was from Battle Royale! So Amber knew about it even before all of us! COOOOOL! ^^; Now that I think about it, I believe it was Mitsuko... the BITCH! *ahem*

I still have to see the movie. The sequel looks pretty cool thus far, with a huge class. And everyone wears Camos now, and nearly everyone had some sort of automatic gun. ^^;;

* I neglected to mention the most memorable part of Saturday-- as Joemi and I left CPK, I saw none other than ALEX CHUN walking in the opposite direction from me! I know he recognized me too, despite my short blonde (whatever!) hair-- which is ironic, considering I used to say in freshman year, back when the Scariest Guy in the Universe (aka Chun) was my BDECO, and the BNXO. I mean, I used to be all "Never cut my hair, never mess it up!" and... well. =P I like it being all funky every now and then. So yeah, it would have been cool if I'd said hi, but he was with his girlfriend and all... still, seeing him again-- ubercool. >_> I wonder if he still uses his old email. =P Not that I'd have anything to say, nope, not me...! >_>;;

* I hope the BR I get is the director's cut, cuz that one is the one with the now-infamous "that bitch must die!" scene. Sadly, one of the stars of BRII died of cancer during complications while filming. I assume his character was killed off in the movie. ^^;

* ACK! I haven't updated PW since JANUARY!?!? But I've had Part 4 sitting here...! ;_; Must finish Part 4! And get back into the Ranma fandom too! @_@ GOING NUTS WITH FICNESS HERE! Have to plot for Mamo Day too, and make Mamo Day awards, and... EEEEEEEEEEK!
