16 Random things, tagged by Denise

So apparently if I connect to the free Wi-Fi downstairs in the lobby of this hotel, I can connect UPSTAIRS for free too! Or so I hope. I think it'd be awful mean to allow me to connect in my room and not prompt me or anything and say I'm being charged.
Anyway, 16 random things!
Write 16 random things about yourself, then tag 16 people. (Make sure you tag the people who tagged you too, so they can read about you!)
1. I don't read comics hard-core, but I know a lot about the comicverse versions of a lot of popular movies, e.g. X-Men, Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, etc. Sometimes the differences irk me, sometimes not.
2. I have to gesture when I talk. I lose my train of thought if I don't. And sometimes I talk to myself when I'm going somewhere-- traveling helps me think, and if I don't express those thoughts aloud, I tend to forget them faster!
3. I think of life as a story, and I've still got a few chapters in the past that I consider "unfinished" in their own way.
4. I'm replaying Super Mario World and I got stuck on Lemmy's Castle (Castle #3 in the Vanilla Dome). I needed my cousin David (who needed about 20 lives) before we beat it. (And I screwed up the save because I defrosted an old state in Snes9x instead of saving the current one!)
5. I tend to eat things even though I know they'll give me a stomachache. Case in point (a commercial that just came on): Pillsbury Toaster Strudels. Love them, but they ALWAYS give me a stomachache. Certain flavors of Eggo Waffles do the same thing.
6. If someone says something like "This tastes awful, try some!" I won't want to, but if everyone says "This series/movie SUCKS, don't watch/read it!" I probably will just to judge for myself.
7. I avoid getting into fandoms that are overly hyped about-- I have to stumble into something accidentally, be recommended it by someone I trust, or be forced into it and then like it. Accidentally is how I've come across most fandoms, I take recs from the guys in the old S.F. anime club or many online friends, and I've been "forced into it" in the case of Harry Potter and (somewhat) Twilight. Oftentimes I don't truly consider myself "in fandom" if I'm not interested in reading or writing fic, though.
8. Sometimes I get into shows or movies and when I watch, I cringe so much and start reacting to the point where I want to shove my face into a pillow. I get embarrassed on behalf of the characters-- or on behalf of characters that might be watching the other characters... you get it. I might be awful to watch TV with because of that. I can't watch very much (TVs, movies) silently. I treat those kind of things as social excursions.
9. I want to be an editor at a publishing house that has a strategy guide division, but I have a few fallback ideas, too: I wouldn't mind working on editing fiction, or technical, or women's magazines, and I think I could be a technology consultant of sorts, too. And of course, there's always web design and (much as I dislike the idea), freelance writing/editing.
10. I think that once I imagine something, there's no way it'll happen. I honestly believe life likes to throw curve balls.
11. Sometimes when I get really into an idea (like for a fanfic), I'll act a scene out without thinking. Sometimes this helps me come up with a whole scene and get it out ("on paper," so to speak), but other times I catch myself and I'm just embarrassed-- even if there's no one else present.
12. I'm afraid of meeting someone I truly admire -like a celebrity or other famous figure and being disappointed. There are a few celebrities I admit to have fantasized meeting, but I either imagine myself as a babbling, drooling mess or a savvy speaker. I think being disappointed by them -because of their attitude or something else- would be much more crushing than ME being an idiot or getting a personality transplant.
13. I don't like to call myself "picky," but everyone else does. I'm "picky" about the foods I eat (and when; I don't like to eat the same style of food for two meals or two days in a row), picky about the games I play, and picky about the movies I watch or the TV series I get into.
14. I'll yell or talk to the TV when commercials (or shows) frustrate me. Other people in the house will inevitably wander by when this happens and ask who I'm talking to, and I have to admit, I'm yelling/talking to the TV. :(
15. Once I was really sick with a stomach flu and "made a bargain with God" that I'd take any headache He'd throw at me if He'd just give me no more stomachaches like that ever again. For years, my stomachaches were never so bad, but in recent years, I think that bargain's expired. To be honest, the headaches suck too. No more bargaining?
16. I think I suck at icon-making. It's not that I don't enjoy doing it, but when you go through several icontests and never win or even place, it does mess with your ego. I don't think I'm very good at it because of that!

Date: 2008-11-27 03:14 pm (UTC)THIS. Exactly how I am. I don't necessarily think it's life adapting itself just to surprise me but I do think that the whole idea of "God laughs when we make plans" is true. Where would the fun be if everything I imagined came true? I kinda like the winding road that I can't see...

Date: 2008-11-27 05:46 pm (UTC)(1) Imagine the worst outcome of a situation you possibly can, and figure, since it won't happen, it can't be THAT bad. But that can leave you woefully unprepared or walking around arrogant.
(2) Imagine the BEST, MOST SPARKLY outcome you possibly can. Knowing it won't happen is kind of crushing and sad, which is like beating DOWN your self-esteem and/or ego, like nothing good will ever happen.
...With me, it's almost always the latter. I can get really happy for a few minutes imagining something crazy that'd make me happy, but then I realize, my brain churns out STORIES, not real life. So it'll never happen and I should just be content going with the flow, taking the balls as they come at me, etc. I think that's the only way of dealing with the reality that what we imagine can't always be put into action (by us).
(Speaking of winding roads one can't see, that line reminded me of this darkened maze -the Tactile Dome- in this S.F. museum. I remember the first time I was in it, I was scared to death, got lost, and started crying. -I was little, btw.- But every time thereafter, I've been one of the best explorers or the first one out! Go figure.)

LOL, if I'm really into a show, I'll end up yelling at the TV, too. XD

Date: 2008-11-29 12:20 am (UTC)(Twilight's not something to "get into" unless you plan on tearing it apart and laughing all the while. I'm fairly sure it's made me look like a madwoman on more than one occasion, but at least I'm having fun.)
