Oh Em Gee. In the teaser for next week's episode of CSI, Grissom and Sara are in their beekeeper outfits and Grissom (ever the suave guy with great timing and words to match) turns to Sara and says "Maybe we should get married." The quickie clip of her face looking like O_O! is just perfect. This is Sara, who normally resembles this: :-| or this |:-( going and looking O_O! T'was great. And of course, the big teaser question is, what will her answer be?

Look, after everything that's happened, I don't really see Sara saying "No." I mean... I'll be honest with you, that's crazy. Now, feasibly, if Jorja Fox is leaving the show and nothing YTDAW or Dollars For Sense or the JF Appreciation Project can do about it, this is both a way out and not, at the same time.

Whyfore?

Well, if Sara gets married to Grissom, one or both of them could be on a different shift than night. Grissom's still got to be on the show, but no one said that he MUST stay as Supervisor of night to do that. Sara's still a character in the show, and she's officially on Swing. The same went with the team in Season 5, when Catherine, Nick, and Warrick (half the team!) moved to Swing.

(Hurgh, I hope I'm not the only one disgruntled by the fact that Sofia Curtis' character became a regular as of S8x03? I mean... because she could replace Sara, and I don't like that. Now, I didn't see what happened in S5 when she was actually part of Grissom's team, but I don't like the possibility. And for the record, I don't like Lady Heather, either. :P)

Now, Sara doesn't seem to LIKE Swing, but that might be because of any number of factors-- what happened to her still being sore, her injuries literally being sore, or Ronnie Lake being annoying (she is. Pretty, but annoying. And too peppy for CSI).

So I can see Sara saying yes and taking a leave of absence-- heck, she and Grissom could feasibly have kids, and that would take Sara off the show for a time. It's not like they focus much on the home life or personal relationships of the characters outside their cases (much), even though Grissom and Sara are pretty much the focal characters at this point (Catherine too, but she kind of fades in and out of the spotlight, from what I've seen). Everything revolving around dramatic phone events could be done through a phone call. But who says Sara and Grissom have to HAVE kids? I mean, Sara could easily adopt (matter of fact, that fic I mentioned I was reading the other day did a damn good job at keeping both Sara and Grissom IC when Sara did just that).

If she says no, not only does that make her look a bit heartless and selfish, but it certainly would make things awkward for her, even if she and Grissom weren't on the same team anymore. I'd say if she said no, it'd probably break Grissom's heart so much, and Sara WOULD leave. But after 7 seasons of torture getting them together and pulling them apart (gah, that second-to-last episode in Season 7? I only saw clips of it, but shit Grissom, LADY HEATHER!? WTF, MATE, WTF!?), her saying "no" would just be like... "WHAT?"

Now, I know fic =/= canon, but based on what I have seen of the characters from all 8 seasons so far, I have read a fic where, post Dead Doll (S8x01), Sara's just sort of numb to everything. One of her traits that makes her both an excellent CSI and a weak one is that she empathizes with victims-- a lot. To lose that would make her cold, scientific-- scarily enough, almost Grissom-esque, but without his childlike enthusiasm about certain things (in his case, bugs). I can see her saying "no" in that context, because she's unable to feel even that love that drove her (and pulled and pushed) into staying with the LVPD CSI as long as she has. And if that ends up happening, it would suck, because I couldn't really see a way of redeeming Sara after that. (Ultra-sucks, because she's my favorite character so far, and I'm saying that.)

But I don't think Sara's numb. Not that I'm saying what Natalie did to her hasn't affected her, but I think based on all that's she's survived so far (and how far she's FINALLY come with Grissom), she's able to put a lot of the bad things that she went through or that Grissom said/did (or didn't say/didn't do when she thinks he should have), the past isn't so much of an issue. The major thing was always the job getting in the way, and while Grissom volunteered to switch to another shift, Sara said she wouldn't do that to Swing, and SHE did it. She's stubborn enough to probably persist even if Grissom tried to talk her out of it, and Grissom probably knows that, so he didn't even bother. That might bother Sara (that he didn't even try), but more likely I'm thinking she misses out on the camaraderie she spent so long building (albeit unintentionally). I think that's also why she lashes out at her new partner, Ronnie Lake, who is this obvious enthusiastic, peppy version-- maybe even a somewhat-shadow of what Sara was like once-upon-a-time, before she went through all she did, fell so hard for Grissom, etc.

If Sara said "no" to Grissom, there'd have to be a DAMN good reason for it. It's not like their jobs would be in jeopardy; both of them have proven that they can easily separate their professional and private lives, and even though it would be excessive, they COULD stay on separate teams (though I could also see Sara being elevated to supervisor of Swing; her as just a plain CSI under Grissom AS HIS WIFE would cause issues, or at least Ecklie would raise a stink). And obviously, she and Grissom are close-- they were before the kidnapping, they were after. I know Sara seemed sad at the Go-Kart track, but it seemed it might have been because she was leaving "her" team-- something she'd never done before, even when the "team" was split up. Whenever people were broken apart, it was outside interference-- not personal choice.

For the record, I think the chances are a lot stronger that she'll say "yes" than she'll say "no." But of course, that's bifocalism. Maybe there's a third or fourth or whatever possibility we're not considering-- she could say "yes" but die in a future episode; she could say "yes" or "no" and change her mind; she could say "maybe" or "not right now" or she could dodge the answer, because if Grissom's good at being blunt, Sara's good at being vague (some of the time, anyway).

Anyway, as I've said: it'd be stupid to have her say "no."
* It'd break Grissom's heart, and to have his character just keep on going after that-- I mean, serious CSI, yes, he could do it, he's done it for years, he's "had practice" with rejection of all kinds... but to just let it blow over in an episode? Bull.
* If she DID say no (again, low chances, IMHO), she'd have to have a DAMN GOOD REASON that was either a) very obvious to the audience (and hopefully Grissom) or b) explained quickly enough.
* If she's leaving the show, it's feasible to do it either way. But to keep her on the show if she says "yes" adds a lot more depth to both their characters, along with the potential for more drama-- after all, that means either one of them could get targeted much more easily (even if, for example, Sara kept her last name, they didn't have a ceremony, etc.)

What I'd like to see happen? He asks her when they're surrounded by bees. Sara's shocked, somehow slips up-- bees are everywhere. After they get cleaned up, Sara gets a call-- she has to go. She stumbles her way out of wherever they are and heads out without saying much to Grissom. He's upset, but doesn't know what to do (of course). Blah blah cases blah blah dead bodies... 5 minutes till episode end, Sara's come off her shift; Grissom's hoping to catch her. He doesn't- but he gets to his office, and there's a Post-It on the window in Sara's all-too-familiar handwriting: "Yes." And that's it, fade to black, episode end.

Part of me knows that's super-wishful thinking, and that Sara might sputter something and accidentally blow up at Grissom for his frankly lousy timing-- and it's not like it's a proper proposal anyway, but who cares? Grissom's like, what, 51? She's 30-something herself, it's not like they're young and innocent and all that. Besides, it's very Grissom-esque NOT to follow all the cliches of dressing up, getting down on one knee, and planting a huge rock on her finger.

So, I hope everything turns out well. S8x04 might very well be the telling episode that reveals whether or not Jorja stays on CSI. I mean, like I said, if Sara says no, things would get super-awkward with her and Grissom, and I can't see her staying on the show if she says no. Not unless she has a DAMN good reason for rejecting him, and even then, it would drastically change their dynamic, even if they did stay together as a couple.

BUT, we do have my knowledge from being on-set on my side-- Sara does remain as a CSI at least through episode 7... so:
a) she says "no" to Grissom and has a damn good reason which gets explained and all is well
b) she says "yes" but stays on the Swing shift
c) she says "maybe" or "give me some time" or something vague. :P

CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR B!

Anyway, I want to see fic/reactions of GSR fans to this latest teaser. I remember with all the other shows I got obsessed with, great teasers/trailers like that would just get my plot bunnies hopping.

Ah, if only someone could wake up the hibernating WDKY bunnies...
