The sun hates me
May. 18th, 2003 02:30 amGah, well, I missed the first day of B3. I have a perfectly good excuse, too. Like, for example, how much it hurts just to move my arms the slight few inches to type this.
I AM SO BURNED!
Friday was Mayfest, and they changed the schedule again, to 12pm-3pm. But since I didn't have a 6th that day (Koski wasn't there, and even if he had been, I would have been setting up for Mayfest anyway... which I did) I was outside most of the time. I DID NOT expect it to be sunny outside, or at least not sunny enough to burn someone as ghostly white as myself. I was expecting "bright overcast" or something to that effect-- after all, the weather report (*scoff*) said the high would be 59 degrees! BULL!! ;_;
I ended up taking off both my sweatshirts and running around in my halter-tank whatever you call it, which, suffice it to say, leaves very little to the imagination. The sun decided to roast me for all it was worth, and now I am not only as red as a two-toned tomato, but I'm also VERY VERY VERY much in pain. And here I am, covering myself in freezing cold green Aloe goo, soaking washcloths in water and hoping they'll relieve some of the swelling, and popping 1000mg of Tylenol every 6 hours or so, hoping to get rid of the insane burning sensation all over my arms and upper back.
In a word: OW.
SOMEONE out there is undoubtedly thinking I deserve this, and maybe on some level, I do. For multiple reasons. But besides that, Mayfest WAS a success, and WAS fun-- until I got burned. Setting up was pretty quick, despite all the hefting from one end of the school to another-- 10 chairs, 3 tables... ;_; Gah, it was just us three girls (me, Katia, and Larisa) doing all the work. Any of the people that signed up to help out a) either couldn't find us, or b) forgot to come and get passes to excuse themselves from 6th period.
Hopefully we won the best decorated booth though, because we all put so much time and effort into planning everything out, decorating the booth and the tablecloth... we did the canopy and the red carpet thing, and all of Katia's images of celebrities were VERY popular-- she didn't expect them to sell, but they did!! ^_^ YAY! Not to mention the duelist tournament was PACKED with people! We had to exceed our original plans of 8 people for the tourney, and we were only 3 short of the next limit of 16 people. So essentially, we had 13 people dueling... and they lasted all throughout Mayfest! ^_^ It was so cool... we made over $91 in profits, though we spent around $130 on all the supplies. So I guess that makes us in "debt," despite the fact that we have around $300 sitting in the anime club "fund" not counted by the student government *conspiratorial snicker*. Hah.
Thank god Katia's mom gave me a ride home, because I had *so* much stuff that I'd brought-- all my manga, a few artbooks, an artbox full of pencils, markers, and erasers... my stereo (which we didn't use, since there was a DJ and Natalise entertaining the whole time) and a backpack full of "How to Draw Manga" books, among other things. My back is not doing well. I mean, ouchies AND a sunburn?
Cool things about Mayfest: I actually did get to draw some people, though I wasn't there enough, or requested as much (I suppose I was a mite nervous, seeing as how so many people took to Katia's work immediately... and she doesn't even draw anime-style like I do, let alone is she in the club!) ... also I was running off, getting a) food or b) stuff-- they had a Sailor Moon button at one of the booths (It was either JSA or GSA. I forgot which) that I bought... I also got a crepe which was quite messy... I had $10 in tickets, and I probably ended up donating around $3 just to Anime Club at the end. I'm disappointed on that end, since I wanted to try Spring Rolls, Mochi, and all this other yummy stuff... I didn't go on the obstacle course, but I guess that's okay, since I got injured on it last year... plus they didn't have my favorite, the harnessed-race one. ^.~ Too bad I missed J.Po beating the $h!t out of Richard Canton in the "boxing" inflatable.
All in all, a good festival. But, come the time when I was supposed to meet Kripa et. al. at her house to go for food and then to the Dance Concert, I was burning, itching, and swelling-- not to mention I was super-red. And still am, and it hurts to sleep. ;_; Cold showers suck too, since I feel so cold, but my arms and back are hot. Stef suggests Vitamin E lotion, which I will try... the Aloe Gel has been doing slim to zip ever since I've been putting it on. It's really cold, too.
Lessee... Toby, Paul, Michelle B., Steph, Kripa, and I all went together to the Dance Concert... the house was almost packed. Kripa and I spent the majority of the time outside (before the concert), waiting for Kripa's mom. As it turned out, Priya was in the concert, and she was pretty damn good, too! The house was almost packed, and there were a bunch of people I knew both performing (Astrid, Adela, Caprisha, Karina, Priya...) and in the audience (Rochelle, Don, BenBen). The concert seemed incredibly long, but, in an oxymoronic sense, it also went by rather fast. I really loved all the "costumes" and everything, and there was such a variety of movement and song that you just wanted to dance yourself! Speaking of which, my interest in dance has definitely become heightened once more. Maybe once I get over this rotten suburn (and I BETTER get over it before Prom!) I'll look into taking dance classes, or I'll just practice on my own. But I've come to the grand conclusion that I can't do "restrictive" dancing like ballet or (*cough*) DDR. I doubt I'll ever learn to "freestyle" but on a dance floor, I can move! =P So there.
For the record, Michelle B., while nice enough to give me a ride home on Friday night, tries FAR too hard to be like Kripa, and is very pushy in her pursuit of Paul (who is obviously still taken with Kripa). Everyone knows Michelle likes Paul, even Paul himself, but no one ever tells her off. And when someone actually does (I think Steph and I are the only ones with the guts) she gets all whiney and annoying once more. Blah.
Okay, what I did today in place of B3-- haha, slept. And it hurt inbetween all the hours when I wasn't actually sleeping. Turning, moving-- it all stings and aches. Just thinking about it makes my arms burn again. ;_; I could really use someone to rub lotion or whatever on my back, because it's always that one area where I can't reach... *sniffles* Lonnie...!
I *did* get up off my lazy arse and... play some video games. Got as far as Eluria Colony in SO2, and I've played over 450 battles! But I really need to build up my SP, because there's a bunch of skills I need to perfect. Like Pickpocketing! Eventually though, I stopped with SO2 and watched (finally) "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." LOL. Let me tell you, my perception of Tim Curry was totally swiped! Full 180! It's something to watch with a) your parents; b) your friends -those you don't mind getting horny with... it's THAT kind of a movie... or c) your S.O. because you're bound to pause it in the middle of some steamy scene... and then start laughing. I will NEVER think of the song "Sweet Transvestite" ever again. And DON'T make a pun.
After that, I played some of the FFIX that Lonnie brought over... and WOW, I love the graphics. To be honest, I don't understand why people call it old school... okay, given that FFVIII had more realistic people, but the whole game format and style does mark a herald point for its time. Not to mention it made FFX look even better. ^.~ Unfortunately, I can't seem to get past that one part with the swamp monster or whatever it is, which is eating Vivi or something. -.-; It's such a pain in the ass to heal people with all the potions and the like, because if my aim is off, I heal the enemy or something?? Vivi just lost SO much HP so quickly, and then it's BAM, game over. =P Phoo.
I'm actually going to try going to B3 tomorrow, just not super-early in the morning (like I would have today, had I not been so badly sunburned). Maybe I'll show up in the early afternoon... and hopefully everything won't be over. Regardless, I'm in the mood for In-N-Out.
I'm supposed to be able to pick up my yearbook Monday, but Steph told me about how Taylor has last-minute decided to do it alphabetically. Which is complete horseshit, given that seniors are here for a week less than all the other students, and therefore don't have as much time to get their books signed by everyone. I suppose I can go downstairs on Monday and hold Taylor to her words "You get your yearbook on Monday." Or I can bitch her out for the idiocy of her plan. After all, there's less students in the individual classes than there are in certain parts of the alphabet. Also, organization by grade/reg would be SO much easier than by last name. Think of how many piles of L, S, W, and Z there would be! Bah.
And Prom tickets finally go for sale on the 21st... Moment of Truth, finding out if all my tardies have caught up with me, and which poor teachers will have to be subjected to my Master Plan. After all, I have so many methods... =P Lots happening this week... god, the choir concert (;_; ARE YOU COMING!?!?!??!) and buying Prom tickets... yearbook (I have to go to J-town tomorrow and stock up on pens!) .... Bruce Almighty on the 22nd... WOW. And Prom in one week after that. ;_;
Whew. All's mostly said and done, more is yet to come. I eagerly await sleep, and hopefully a better eating routine tomorrow. I wonder how much money I'll have left for tomorrow. And if I'll be able to finally use all those RTA tickets I no longer need?
