Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Aug. 27th, 2004 11:41 pmIt's been so long since I've watched TV. Gawd, I love Friday nights. The guys of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" never cease to make me laugh.
Okay, so this was the end of my first week of school, and I will definitely proclaim this one a success. I mean, I met loads of new people, did work (will get paid Monday), and might even have a date for next week! Only, it's a date that's not a date, because I don't want to jinx myself. I'm still under the impression that my Journalism teacher is psycho, and she's so hard to understand... but Miss Sharky for Speech is a nice girl (she even has a nose piercing!), Mr. Davidson is pretty cool though-- in that semi-nerdy sort of way. I'm sure if I sit near the front and participate, Geography will be much more bearable. I still need my textbook, though... we start reading from it next week. For Tuesday and Thursday classes, there's Ms. Bober, and she's pretty cool, even with her deliriously puffy (I mean it) hair. She looks like she walked out of an early 90s sitcom. We had this project of sorts dealing with statistics and goldfish, and I got to work with two guys, Jaime and Jared, and another girl (whose name I can't remember at the moment... I wanna say Sara?).
Then there came CAD class, which was amazingly boring... but I refuse to drop anything. I'm a bit peeved at my adviser for making the class out to be the use of Photoshop and Flash, as I want to increase my knowledge with those things, but there's nothing involving those two programs in this class. Why don't they call it Computer Aided Design (which is what CAD is, by the way) instead of "Introduction to Computer Graphics Tools?" I think it's misleading. -_- Plus Lavassani is pretty hard to understand at times-- it's that accent! We just played around on AutoCAD 2004 for a bit-- really mundane things. I still need my textbook though, and Dad hasn't gotten it from Prentice Hall yet. Hopefully, if I get my FinAid check by Monday (a server crash in Utah delayed them), then I can just buy it at the bookstore or something. Maybe Borders, hah!
I didn't get a chance to check out the Welcome Week festivities much, having only 45 minutes on Thursday to run through everything... plus I didn't find the anime club, so later today, I swung by the Matador Involvement Center and got their (well, the president's) contact info. It looks like they have their own domain and everything, so it should be easy to find out when they meet and all. Plus I did run past the Society of Professional Journalists, and they meet on Tuesdays... until I get another job, it sounds like something cool to occupy my time. But this week has been hell for me when it comes to rest and schoolwork, so I'll be taking it easy.
Came home today and just hung out... Grace called, now that she got a car and isn't entirely stuck in the blip that is Moorpark. But we were all low on funds, ideas, and places to go, so ideas of window shopping and acting touristy got nixed. My earlier purchase of an iced tea, a Jamba Juice at lunch, and a game of DDR at the Game Room (I FOUND IT!! I failed my 2nd stage, but at least I know where it is now so I can practice more often!) got me down to $2, so I just snagged some nuggets at Wendy's and that was it. Bummer-- I did wanna chill with Grace more.
After that, I took an extended nap to catch up on all the sleep I missed this week. Now I'm online and catching up on the RP (I must admit, I love driving Seto/Mamono up the wall with this tail-end arc), fanfiction (DSF updated loads of stuff, so I'm reading the chapters now), and journals. Plus, Dad called and told me about these anime/manga related articles in Wired magazine (have to pick up the actual magazine), and NPR (Nat'l Public Radio)-- the latter being a bit harder to find. Dad is now actually ENCOURAGING me to stay with my anime and manga obsession, given that it's finally starting to show up in the major marketing radar, and translators apparently make big moola. Tokyopop, LA, here I come! ^_^v
One bad part about this week-- I failed my first quiz in Speech-- I couldn't recall anything from the reading I did Monday night, so I blanked out come quiz-time on Wednesday, with barely any time to review. To make up for it though, Miss Sharky said I did very well with my Introductory speech of Michelle G. today. Several people said I didn't look nervous at all!
Finally, in all randomness, the Buyback guy from the bookstore now officially calls me "Zoom Zoom," and thinks iced tea is dangerous for me. I think Jounouchi would be great in a band, and would definitely be the type to sing "Saccharine Smile" by the Donots (GuitarFreaks/DrumMania)... though when I originally saw the band name, I thought it was Donuts, and again, thought of Jounouchi. HEH. I'm going to get into writing "The Speed of You" soon, too, just because it's been plot-bunnying me lately. I might decide to stop that from being a WIP-- that is, I won't post it until it's DONE. o_O Would be a first for me.
Aaaand, I think that's it. Looking forward to tomorrow-- R&R!
