azurite: (perfect world)
@_o Title quote is, of course, from ReDeath. -.-

Fanime is over, and I can say quite frankly I'm happy about it. I guess I depended waaay too much on my mom coming for so much-- money, food, discipline... I had a better vision of what Fanime would turn out to be like, with all my friends with me, me finally cosplaying a recognizable character and everything.

But the truth is, when you're away from home and parents, and then everything like time and money becomes an issue, people will act differently around you. True, circumstances out of my control had some part in messing up the weekend, but I can't say I had no part in what made it a less than stellar weekend.

Last year's con was much better, even with Gina running up the hotel phone bill to $40 (she still owes me money for that, not to mention she/Tri's got my earring!) and such. I did have FUN this year-- I mean, it's not like I walked away with nothing. I just feel bad about a) not hanging out with everyone as much as I wanted to; b) not going to the fanfiction panel; c) not going to several screenings I really wanted to see, especially Fanboy Bebop; c) unintentionally segregating our group...

Yeah, apparently Mike's mad at me or whatever, and as much as I'd like to pretend that I couldn't care less (there's a whole big story behind Reasons Why *I* Can Be Mad At Him, but it's not REALLY my story to tell) I can't-- because I consider Mike a friend, and I'd hate for him to go back to NJ not talking to me because he was mad at me. Admittedly, I'm a little wounded over how he treated me this weekend-- I mean, I didn't do ANYTHING to him at all, and all of a sudden he started giving me the cold shoulder.

He didn't call me when he went to Battle Royale, like he said he would. Forgivable, since I was tired then, and decided against going. I also thought Mike would be in too much of a frump to go either. But when I tapped him on the shoulder yesterday morning to tell him the Dealer's Room would be open in a half hour (which he had been telling everyone he was going to as early as possible, to avoid the line) he swatted at me and yelled "Damn woman!" I was pretty taken aback and so I just shelled myself off from then on; last night was pretty apparent that Claudia and Will were fine hanging out with just each other, while Mike wanted nothing to do with me. I should have figured that out on Friday afternoon when Mike told me (after I asked him if he was okay) that if I didn't understand, I shouldn't ask questions (which makes no sense, if you think about it-- why ELSE would I ask him questions!?)

But it's not like I had NO fun whatsoever. I mean, I went swimming with Amber and Grace twice (one time Grace left early because it was freezing out and the hot tub was filling up with COLD water...) and that was fun... I pretty much wasted all that money (okay, about $10) and time (Will's too-- sorry!) putting that blue stuff in my hair. On the second day when I finally decided to cosplay, my cape was being a bitch, and Grace had to put some blue hair gel (made my hair feel like blue straw!). But it all worked out okay, and people actually asked for my picture! ^_^ YAY! I just hope I remembered to get pictures of myself in cosplay... >_>

I went to ReDeath and Nescaflowne with Amber, though I nearly fell asleep in the latter fan parody... haha, it was still funny though. Claudia and I had a running joke that those who hadn't seen Nescaflowne didn't understand-- "Give us Head, Give us Head!" Haha... I also bought some stuff from the Dealer's Room, though not the stuff I'd GONE there for-- I bought a purple Fanime shirt (with art by Idol Hands! SUGOOOI!), I.N.V.U. #2, and Erica Sakurazawa's new manga. I *wanted* to see if I could find Treasure and Second Treasure, the Star Ocean 2 manga artbooks, along with Eikoden, and the Unison game soundtrack. I didn't really look for the Unison soundtrack, but none of the dealers had ever even HEARD of Treasure, and Eikoden was sold out wherever I went. I was tempted to buy other DVDs, like Ayashi no Ceres (even though the anime isn't as good as the manga) and Ranma Forever. *wince* Not to mention His and Her Circumstances...

But what it comes down to is that I have a lot of email to check, and once that's done, I'll get dressed and head to Japantown. I still also have to go to some bookstore or another and get a new copy of "Wicked." It's a good thing I took the $15 Will paid me back with (YAY!) and put it in my Tootsie bank to save for today. In the end though, I didn't spend all the money I had-- thankfully no one did anything stupid that cut into the $50 incidental fee I had to pay when we checked in. So I have money today. Priority... hmm, I think it'll be the artbooks or the DVD, since the artbooks are hard to find and tend to stop being made; the DVD because I can watch it (i.e. use it) over and over.

I want Jonathan to call today, but I've got two things on my mind-- 1) I hope Mike wasn't right when he said Band Camp (I'm pretty sure that's what it was) is really Sex Ed 101; 2) Jonathan might need some sort of breather like I do. Who knows when he came home? So yeah, maybe he'll call... I hope he does. I have a lot to do anyway, but I guess I'm kinda lonely and wonder if he's forgotten about me (like SOME people) or what.

Mike and Will (I think it was Will) both left stuff here at my house, so if they want it back, they're going to have to see me sometime.

It's only been 45 minutes since I came online, but it feels like longer. I wanted to make this a concise entry, with lots of vagueness, but I guess it's a mix between all that I wanted to say and... well, the list format. So that was my weekend. Next year should be better-- it's May 28-31 (4 days!) at the San Jose Convention Center, which is supposedly bigger and all that. It's not like we've ever used ALL the space the Santa Clara has had to offer, but I guess it's best we move on-- the place will be more accessible, offering more options, and we can do much more... I hope there's a pool, and I hope one of the two connecting hotels is a Starwood hotel, so I can still get good rates... I didn't pre-reg for next year (kinda of last minute, even if I did have the $25 for it) since I don't know what I'll be doing then.

But that's it. Hmm, I might as well get ready to go soon, as later tonight I should review my Japanese vocab for tomorrow night's test, and work on the Usa Week SMRFF layout. ~_~ I need to get another part of "Spooferlicious" (Co-Fic with Siggy) out, along with another chapter of "Golden Apple," (Co-Fic with Baine).

Hmm, Mike just called-- he's going to come over soon and get his CDs. He didn't sound the least bit surprised that *I* was shocked that he called-- doesn't even seem to remember that he treated me like shit this weekend. Bah, whatever. Just... whatever.

Which Bishoujo Are You?

brought to you by Quizilla

Is this accurate? I hate quizzes where you can tell exactly what the answer's going to be for each quiz option. Maybe this is why I should take psychology and web design! HAH!

Oh, and at the AMV competition, there was an overload of Ah! Megami-sama (Oh! My Goddess!) AMVs, along with Vampire ones. But they were still cool. The coolest of them all-- "Can't Stop The Rock" (from Unison! --and it was stuck in my head, so it's even better that now there's a killer AMV about it that I MUST download) with music by Apollo 440 (makes it easier to get the song now!) ... it won Best of Show (not sure whether it was Viewer's Choice or Judge's Choice, though). And for the other category, "The Chibi Things (That Kill)" won! Friggin' hilarious-- too bad so many people missed the AMV competition and the closing ceremonies, where they showed it. Haha, Deiter is funny. ~_~ I didn't win the raffle though... if I had, I would have given the prize (Asuka and Rei special art posters, signed by the Gainax crew) to Will, since he's the big Eva fan. But I didn't, so... blah. They coulda had DVDs!

I wonder if I made it onto any cosplay sites? Not a big deal if I didn't though. I guess.

Ok, so my Japanese is probably very rusty above, but I think you get the gist (if you know Japanese, that is) -- my brand new, spiffy Star Ocean TREASURE and SECOND TREASURE artbooks are the best! ^_^ I got them for $72.37 (tax included) at Kinokuniya, and I'm glad I did-- they were the last two! They didn't have them at Fanime, so I'm glad I spent the money on it. Whoo... lots to say, too.

First off, there's tons more illustrations than I've seen on the 'Net. I saw some ones on the 'Net before, but the artbooks feature so much! They're so detailed and everything-- I just wish they'd included more 'original' artwork, like they did in the Prima Guide. The manga artwork is just stunning-- and it's funny at times too. Notes are as follows:

* Celine's hat is mostly yellow/gold, and there's no weird face on it.

* Claude is actually 'Crawd' in the official artbook. But then again, Precis is called 'Precis F Neuuman' (instead of Neumann). Plus, there's a part in the back with a comic in English that has Celine asking if Rena is 'writting' a novel (she's writing a letter to her mom). And one of the chapter covers, featuring Dias says 'A Feeiling Lag.' So... yeah, I don't trust their Engrish.

* There's several characters not in the anime (of course, since they cut off before the Energy Nede saga) featured in the artbook, and ones I don't believe are in the game. Usually what happens is, since a manga takes longer to produce, 'filler episodes' of the anime are created, featuring scenarios and characters never seen in the original manga. Here, it looks like it's the other way around. The anime never saw characters like Chisato, Noel, and the Ten Wise Men, but the manga has.

* I wish Filia were illustrated in here-- she's very beautiful in both the anime and the manga, though her part in the anime differs greatly from her part in the manga.

* Some of the characters in here not featured in the anime are apparently from the Drama CDs, which I'm hoping to either get my hands on (though 5 CDs of straight Japanese would be a pain in the ass to translate-- still, a challenge!) or find translations of. One of these characters is a cute chick that apparently has some animosity for Ashton (he looks pretty terrified/pissed of/at her), but I can't find a translation of her name. She looks Fellpoolian (like Leon!) There's also a green-haired wolf boy, along with a big baddie (also whose name I can't translate) and two other baddies, one of which is 'Lucifer,' while the other is a female that resembles Rena, but is... well, not (I THINK!)

* Apparently the storyline that extends into the game sequel, "Star Ocean: Blue Sphere" has its role in the manga AND the drama CDs. The illustrations so popularly associated with the Star Ocean 2: Blue Sphere game are found in the SECOND TREASURE artbook-- and they reveal that the characters have indeed aged, but haven't changed... much. Celine HAS hacked off much of her hair, so one wonders if she's still involved with Chris (Prince Clother of Cross) like she was in the manga (he was shadowed in the anime, and never made a real appearance)

* A few character seem to have 'color edits' in which their costumes and apperance are the same, but the colors are different. For Rena, she has a purple color edit (her normally blue-and-red outfit is changed into various shades of purple) and Celine's normal lavender gets darkened into a bluish-purple color, almost indigo. Ernest, Noel, and Chisato also appear to have color edits as well.

* There's this downright HILARIOUS image of the cast (Celine, Ashton, Precis, Leon, Claude, and Rena) at the beach-- Precis and Leon are playing in the water, Rena and Claude are on the outskirts of the image, and an embarassed Ashton is trying not to look at a topless Celine-- who's yelling at a watermelon-painted Bobot who just ran off with her bikini top! And Precis seems to be behind it too, since she's grinning while she controls the walking watermelon. ^_^ *snicker*

* You know how Leon has all those "books" in the game, like the Book of Chaos, the Book of Darkness, etc.? He has those in the manga too, as the images of the various books he holds change from illustration to illustration.

* The two dragons, Gyoro and Ururun can apparently evolve-- in the SECOND TREASURE image of Ashton, their appearance differs from those of them in earlier parts of the book, featuring Ashton and the dragons from the first half of the manga. Poor Ashton still looks quite unhappy though.

* Leon had a huge growth spurt between the first half of the manga and the second 'Blue Sphere' half. Bowman starts looking less like a married man (and professional physician) and more like Claude-- his jacket is even a bright green lined with leather! Chisato starts to look more professional and less 'sexy' (on purpose, that is) and dons a business suit look for the 2nd half of the manga (well, the 2nd half of the 2nd half that she's in!). Noel looks happier, and ditches his plain Earthy-color outfitting for some bright, almost circusy-clothes. Opera and Ernest remain mostly the same, though Opera gets more daring in a red version of her usual body gown. Her gun gets bigger, too. ^_^ Rena gets a new outfit too (I believe two, actually, though one might have just been a color edit of the original) where she looks like she's part of the Federation, in a tailored-yet-sci-fi-y jacket, with a yellow miniskirt and sheer drape. She gets taller boots too, somewhat reminiscent of something Sailormoon or Sailormercury might wear!

Okay, so Jtown Video HAS Eikoden, and it's $30. -.- But I didn't have enough, since I still have yet to drop off my film at Walgreen's (picked up my Grad Week film though, and Mom's camera from graduation and Helena's party) and such. Maybe later. But I still want to get...
* ConAir Triple Braider
* Cute purses I spied at Walgreen's for $4.99
* More of that One Night hair color for streaking (hair streaking, that is!) purposes.

As for the Unison OST, I went through a couple of game FAQs and got a songlist...the Japanese and the American English version. KazAa's being a bitch though, so who knows how long it'll take to get all the songs. I did get the original version of Apollo 440's "Can't Stop The Rock" though, and discovered a whole slew of Star Ocean soundtracks, including the original game soundtrack (with some cool tracks, though the snippets SUCKED, being *.rams), the SO2 Fantasy Megamix, the Arrange soundtrack (which, even with only 10 songs, is still over an hour long, and remixes several of the original tracks on the OST, despite its release being dated TWO WEEKS before the game OST), and of course, the original game OST. There's also 2 anime OSTs as well. @_@... wow...

Eh, I have to go to Safeway and get a bunch of stuff. If I decide to write anything more on games or music, I shall.

Oh yeah, FFnet's back up for me! Finally... and I uploaded my weird (aren't they always) oneshot for Sailormoon (for the SMRFF June 2003 Lyric Wheel), "Forever Never Ends," a lyric fic to Queen's "Who Wants To Live Forever." But it's in its beta stages, and I really want to revise it. But I have to get the SMRFF Usa Day layout and awards finished first, and work on MY pages as well... augh, so much to do!

*pout* I hope Jonathan calls tomorrow.
