Who can name where that quote came from? Series, season, and episode number? Whoever's first/correct can either:
a) have me make them a fanart of the (female) character of their choice
b) have me design them a banner and 2 matching buttons
OR
c) have me write a drabble/ficlet revolving around the plot/quote/pairing of their choice (yaoi exempted).
Whoo-hoo! Anzu Mazaki is back from the Yu-Gi-Oh World Championships! What a day! I woke up waaaay too early (6:41am), and decided to get up anyway. So I took my shower and got dressed-- but last night, I couldn't find my Yugi/Marik/Kaiba shirt (black), so I gave up and decided to go in "unofficial cosplay," which is basically the same outfit I wore at Fanime, minus the duel disk.
James showed up right on time after 7:45-- and of course, everyone decided to wolf down my Special K. Le sigh... I do NOT want to survive off bran cereal. Blech. I'm not exactly a Froot Loops 24/7 person, but still-- I want my own cereal! Is that too much to ask? I mean, really. Well, this is about the time when Dad, who pretends to know how to use a computer but is a putz about the basics, decides to break the Internet connection. He had me create separate accounts for Baba, Grandpa, Erin, and Guests-- and I'm the acting Admin, since I'm the only one that knows how to work this damn comp.
Well, he bitched and whined at me until I got onto my own account, where the DSL connection was, for some bizarre reason, still functioning. And off we went. The drive was pretty warm and long-- going from northern San Fernando Valley to Anaheim, which isn't really in the Valley anymore. Amazingly enough, MAPQUEST directions were correct, and we found our way to a parking lot and towards the Con Center.
Even though we were late, plenty of people were still arriving with us, so we just followed a huge crowd of people towards the Con Center, which had a whole front part of it being torn up and redone. Still, the inside, just where these two halls were, was ABSOLUTELY GIGANIMOUS! I mean, WOAH. If AX is there every year, I'd be amazed with all the dealers and events to be had. O_O They had this huge Yugi and Kaiba poster (art from the Power of Chaos games) hanging above the entrance, and these maroon-and-white security guards checking our passes. I was initially afraid that they'd give me guff since I registered my mom and myself to go, rather than James and I, but they didn't even check the list or anything. So we went in and...
The place was mostly waiting lines. One whole hall was devoted to fences. Just fences. The other stuff was where the action was really spread out-- a whole chunk of the area devoted to Open Play gaming, with hundreds of black tables and white fold chairs for duelists to play one another. Then there was the Magician's Workshop, which was where they held the game show and the Finals. Near that, there was the Mattel booth, where they had displays of all the figurines, games, and accessories for the die-hard Yu-Gi-Oh fan. They were also previewing the new season coming out this Fall (probably the DVD release by Funimation; the uncut version of Yu-Gi-Oh!) and displaying the brand new sleek Duel Disk to go alongside it. (I must note that the one they were showing was UNCUT-- as in, Japanese cards. However, we didn't get a chance to hear dub or Japanese voices, as it was voiced-over by an announcer.)
This is the duel disk that the members of the DOOM organization wear, and the ones that Rex Raptor and Mai Valentine use when they duel alongside the Orichalchos people... the toy version isn't as dark and menacing looking; rather, it's turquoise and light blue, but sports the new "duel slide" action, and has "Atlantian" symbols circling the disk. It'll hit stores around the same time as the DVD (October). The newest series of toys include Dark Magician Girl, a new Yami Yugi figurine, and others-- as well as the movie-release Blue Eyes Shining Dragon.
Next door, the tremendously long line for the Duel Store (aka the Upper Deck Store). They had it set up so that there was one long line filtering into six smaller ones, each going to their own booth stocked with Yu-Gi-Oh cards. They had every booster pack for $3.25 each, the tins for roughly $11, the portfolios for a bit more than that, as well as all the Starter Decks (ranging from $12-$16) and the special long boxes (Pegasus) for $22. There was a limit of 10 Exclusive Packs per person... and I got 3 of them! One of them is mine for keeps, but I'm willing to sell the others! If you're interested in the cards, check out what they can do and make me an offer! (On that same page are scans of the movie booklet that the Movie people distributed; it's a preview for the Ani-Manga book that will tell the story of the movie --and eventually, all the episodes in the Yu-Gi-Oh series, I imagine-- once it's released in theaters this August.)
James and I hung out at the Game Show area for a bit, hosted by the funny "King Ra," this well-dressed black guy that actually knew his stuff about YU-Gi-Oh! With the help of his assistant Carey, he asked questions about the TCG, and people called on (and pointed out by mic-guy Tim) and awarded prizes-- Yu-Gi-Oh TCG packs, ranging from Ancient Sanctuary in the 1st round to Invasion of Chaos and Dark Crisis in the 3rd and 4th rounds. I knew the answers to a few of the questions, but you'd be surprised at how hard some of them were. -_- And amazingly enough, some were insanely easy ("What is the maximum number of Life Points you can have at any given time?") and people STILL got them wrong (for that question, we heard 2000, 4000, 8000, 10,000, 12,000... >_<). I wish more had been about the anime or the manga... *grin* There was one about singing the Yu-Gi-Oh theme, but my stage fright got the best of me and I could barely remember the first verse of "Ashita Moshikini ga Kowaretemo" or "Genki no Shower." Two guys got up and tried to do the "Your Move" rap, with laughable results, but they still got packs. ^^; So study your lyrics! You never know when they'd come in handy!
Kinokuniya LA/Viz also had a booth at the event, and they sold Shonen Jump and the Graphic Novels (though not the special, prism-cover limited editons). I picked up Shonen Jump August (learn to draw Yugi!) and Volume 5. Starting with Volume 8 in February 2005, Viz will release one Yu-Gi-Oh Graphic novel per month! According to my calculations, that means the series will be completely translated by August 2007 (And if I'm lucky, I might have my BA by then!) Shortly before then, they may announce whether or not they plan to translate such Yu-Gi-Oh products as the card guides (Prima does them, but they suck) or the Yu-Gi-Oh R series.
Lunch was at the con center restaurant, consisting of Freschetta pizza and a soda. -_- Los Angeles is a Pepsi county, in case you didn't know, which does NOT bode well for me, the Coke Drinker. Ah well... there's always 2-Liters. We sat outside eating for the longest time; I was one of the very few girls there. There were mostly young boys, though the duelists actually IN the tournament were as young as eleven and as old as 34 (yes, 34!!). Boys of all ages flooded the event, along with their parents and siblings... a few older duelists (including one Seto Kaiba one that I met who wasn't in cosplay, but had attempted to cosplay at Comic Con. The assholes there said he couldn't participate in the masquerade because he didn't MAKE his own pants! How lame!) and their wives or young kids were also present. One such young girl got out of her way to fix my badge when it was backwards. ^^;
Of all the people there, only one asked for my picture, and only a few others (the duelist gang I hung out with; Sam... and a few others whose names I unfortunately can't remember!) recognized me as Anzu. I angsted over the best-looking Kaiba cosplayer there almost the entire time, up until the Finals, when Sam (who looked amazingly like Jounouchi) dragged me over there, poked Kaiba, said "Can she glomp you?" and let me have at it. Unfortunately, the purple bracelet Eva got me from China broke mid-glomp. There is a plus-side to that, though. Kaiba had to seek me out and give it back. And me, being the fiction brat I am, will turn that into a ficlet. Look for "World Champion" coming soon...
The finals were between the Togawa of Japan and Chen of Hong Kong-- and in the end, Japan won. The way it worked was that they could use cards in their native language, but NOT cards that had not yet been approved by Konami of USA. The one card that made a constant appearance in both players' decks was Jinzo.
On display were cards from different countries, including Italy, Germany, China, and Korea. Daiwon, the company in charge of Yu-Gi-Oh TCG distribution and gaming in Korea, had displays outlining their champion's winning deck, which included such familiar staples as Snatch Steal, among others. Not far from the patio and the restaurant was the gaming booth, where people could play games like World Championship 2004, Capsule Monster Coliseum (PS2-- amazing graphics!) and Destiny Board Traveler, featuring the insanely-cute chibis! Yes, Chibi-Kaiba. He's so adorable, it's scary.
Pretty much everything ended by 5:30, so James and I left. I conked out in the car on the ride home (NOT a good idea-- I was wearing my contacts, and when I finally woke up, my eyes burned like hell!) until we got to In-N-Out. I then proceeded to be broke. And, here I am...
Today I woke up early again (well, 8:40 is pretty early for me on a summer schedule) due to the noisy ass garbage trucks. They have THREE separate trucks that come to pick up everything. How annoying! *le sigh* All the more reason to get up in the morning, I guess. After I'd gotten ready, Dad and I headed back to the Screen Shop to fix the rec room screens, to My Hero for subs, and then to CSUN for walking around. The arcade was closed off, but I did get to see the various pools, and I got to meet the publisher of the Daily Sundial, the CSUN newspaper. ^_^ They said I can work as a freelancer once school starts! But I am more into Magazine journalism than the newspaper, so... we'll see.
After many hours walking around CSUN (burning sweat + lots of walking = weight loss! whoo hoo!), Dad and I went to pick up the screens, and then back home. We set up my desk (it looks great!) and ... later Grace called! She's only in town today, but we had fun at the Winnetka Pacific Theaters arcade. Not very big, but they have DDR Extreme, Initial D Version 3 (whoo hoo, I beat Kenji! Only one more and I'll beat Myogi AGAIN!!!), and Guitar Freaks 10th. I really like the song "Saccharine Smile." For some reason I see it as being a good songfic-type song, but I'm not sure for who...
Hey girl!
She plays boys like a game of cards
And dances to the beat of breaking hearts but
She ain't no beauty queen to me.
She's all wrapped up in plastic skin
Her bad disguise won't take me in cause
She ain't no beauty queen to me.
I see through her smile
I don't trust these eyes
She's a walking lie
I see through her smile
She's as cold as ice
I'll stay away from
The girl with the saccharine smile
Tomorrow I have to finish assembling the furniture and helping out with lord knows what else-- I'm officially broke again, so I really have to get around to doing that job hunt. Wednesday is when my bed arrives, the dentist appointment (GAAAH!) and at 6pm, a screening of a movie at Winnetka, if I can get a ride there or something. I'd need to go BACK to Winnetka to get the form that has the number that you have to call to be admitted. -_-
Yep. Thanks to David, I also got my PS2 set up. How weird is it-- Channel 91, to play games. I even got a chance to explain the mechanics of Yu-Gi-Oh to Dad, but I still lost the duel with Mako-- I really need to go back and play Téa and Tristan again. And, speaking of our two underused charas, I really need to read a fanfic right about now...
a) have me make them a fanart of the (female) character of their choice
b) have me design them a banner and 2 matching buttons
OR
c) have me write a drabble/ficlet revolving around the plot/quote/pairing of their choice (yaoi exempted).

Date: 2004-07-27 07:38 am (UTC)Series: Sailor Moon (I could actually hear here voice saying this)
Season: R (this is where we enter a grey area)
Episode: #1 of the R season... (which is technically Episode 41, entitled The Return of Sailor Moon) I am almost sure I'm wrong, but I figured I may as well give it a shot. Either that or Bad Hair Day (#32) And I simply didn't have time to peruse all of the episodes (82 of them) I taped when the show was on the WB so I had to give it my best guess.
Who said it: Serena/Usagi/Sailor Moon of course!
