Casa de la Sweet
Jul. 23rd, 2004 11:54 pmWell, here I am... Northridge. Home sweet home, from here on out.
Last night (well, this morning, if you wanna be technical about it) I stayed up burning CDs, but, ditz that I am, the most important CD (with my Sites, fanfiction, etc.) just finished burning after I got here. That is, to LA. So Mom has to send it to me, and I don't know how long that will take. I don't want to jinx myself or anything, but that CD better have burned correctly and everything, or there will be some serious hell to pay.
I slept through the majority of the flight, and when I got to Burbank, it was roasting. And speaking of roasted, since I missed out on the honey-roasted peanuts during the flight, I asked the stewardess if I could have some as I was leaving the plane. She gave me an entire bag. I don't mean a single, dinky bag of peanuts, I mean a BAG of BAGS of PEANUTS. It's the same kind of bag you'd use at a grocery store to put vegetables in, only there's about a hundred packets of peanuts in there. WHOO HOO!
Grandpa and Dad picked me up, and we chilled at the house a while before Dad and I headed out to do some errands. A sickeningly hot 90+ degrees, but good lord, I LOVE THE SUN! Wouldn't it be shocking if I returned to San Francisco for Christmas with a tan? Haha, I mean, it's impossible, probably-- I burn, not tan. And according to Grandpa, whiteness is actually a skin condition in my family. Apparently my cousin David has no melanin in his skin, and he lives in San Diego, is going to move to Arizona... yeah, I would have expected HIM to be tan. But he's about as white as I am, give or take a few shades of blue.
Dad's always replacing one thing or another here-- this time there's problems with the bay window (Rec Room, where I am now) screens-- as in, the lack of them. Plus there's something messed with the backyard (OMG! BACKYARD!!!!!!! *runs around*) gate and the garage door. But it's all getting replaced tomorrow~
I'm even getting my bed tomorrow, and we might be going to IKEA to get me a nice new desk and maybe a dresser. :O Baba wanted me to use the same desk MY dad used back when he lived here (in the same room I'm in) in junior high. It's so tiny and falling apart... yeah, and it's not really going to match with my new "room motif." Yep, I'm going to have a MOTIF. I have my purple bulletin board, my purple garbage can, and my new purple desk lap with an organizer (only $10 at Home Depot)! ^_^
We hit up this place called Jon's (it used to be a Von's, aka Safeway, but it got bought out by this Russian guy, and now it's a super-discount cultural grocery store). Now I have loads of ramen, tuna, my fav cereal, and 2% milk. Plus Snapple, Cherry Coke, and, and~ Whoo! I'm in food heaven, here.
I started reading one of Baba's romance novels (of the two types of books here, they're the ones you'll find me buried in most of the time), and fell asleep in the Den while Dad went out with his friend, Steve. He'd been cleaning off the roof of all the leaves and pine needles (I put as many as I could squish into a box, which was no easy feat... and there's STILL more clogging up every area), so he deserved the break. And when Dad got back, he came bearing Enchilada for Mer, and orders to vamp up this computer.
So yes, some of my stuff is now on here, and I'm quite DSL-happy. Now I just have to remember wtf to download... So far, I've been trying to find a logon screen that I like, plus some themes. Back at home, I had this really nice purple theme called Enigma, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I swore I saw it at ThemeXP.org, but it's not there. -_- Does anyone know where I might find my precious Theme? Either that, or recommend a sleek, purple (can you tell it's my favorite color?) XP "visual style?"
Speaking of the themes, when I try to initiate them in the Control Panel, they don't seem to take effect. o_O I run XP Home here, and XP Pro at home-- does that make a difference? ;_; I want my cool themes back!! And my Outlook Express folders, too. I spent so much time burning the CD with my Outlook folders and messages (*.dbx), but when I put the files in the new Identity folder, they don't show up. I tried restarting OE, but that didn't do anything... maybe I have to restart the whole comp? -_- It better have worked... all my emails!! Damn.
And lastly, Dad has finagled James, son of Steve, to possibly come with me to the Championships on Sunday. Well, that'll be more interesting than Dad (who would probably complain or make fun of the duelists), who was my initial ride... but still. James and I, while we've known each other for years and years, are hardly super-best-uber-close friends. He has a girlfriend too, which I frankly think makes things awkward. And is he even into Yu-Gi-Oh? *shrugs* I don't know what to think. Someone's gonna be taking me to Anaheim on Sunday, that's all I know. :P
The plan for tomorrow is to go mall trolling and get lots of job apps. I'll let myself spend maybe $20 at Borders, picking up the newest Hot Gimmick (DAMN YOU SHINOGU!!!! DAMN YOU!!!) and Yu-Gi-Oh... but the rest of the money Mom gave me (a whopping $45 total!) is going towards the championships and any and all I might wanna buy there. Like, for example, the Yu-Gi-Oh movie poster that I glomped at the Metreon the other day...
*grin* Yeah, as a Mer's Last Week in SF thing, I went out with Steph, Eva, Michelle Bates (from choir senior year) and Lindsey Sampson (who has known me since Preschool, and insists I have not changed a bit) to see "I, Robot." Lindsey told me that it Disney-ized the movie, but I still loved it. Will Smith kicks so much ass... Vintage 2004 Black Chuck Taylor Converse! MY SHOES! :DDDDD We went to Stonestown after that, where we parted ways with Michelle, who had to go have dinner with her 'rents, and then the rest of us had food court grub. Drool, hot dog on a stick... or in my case, corn dogs. ^_^ Shared a Limeade with Eva, and Lindsey was gutsy enough to ask two random people with Snapples if they wanted their caps. I'm only ONE CAP AWAY from a Snaffle! (Cap #35X... damn, I can never remember).
Well, I've kind of got this theme thing figured out. Have StyleXP, Logon Loader, and a nice set of themes. Turns out the thing I was looking for was not Enigma, but ELUSIVE. Har har. Okay, onwards to better things. I hope I can get my email to work! ;_;

Awwhaha
Date: 2004-07-27 09:14 pm (UTC)As soon as I get the chance and the method, I'll take pictures of my feng-shuized room in all its purple/blue/turquoise glory. And it will be neat! It has to be... I don't have hardwood floors. I blame hardwood floors on my messiness.
