Choices, choices, and pretty colors, too!
Jul. 22nd, 2004 01:21 amWow, I was up at 10:30am. And I resisted going online. Am I TEH SHIT or what? I burned a CD-- and found out midway through that all these AIM logs were in My Documents folder. It's like, why would I need those? When I have a convo I want to remember, I save it. But AIM/DeadAIM/Trillian did it automatically, and it's 99% junk. Even weirder, it invaded OTHER PEOPLE'S PRIVACY. Some of the people whose names are on my BL had their BL in my comp, along with messages they sent to people.
...of course, this only occurred for a few people, and I didn't care to snoop through all the files. I deleted them all-- off the CD temp folder and off my HD, because it's a total waste of space. I hate LOG files-- they're mostly useless. I have about 7 more CDs to burn before I'm done with this comp, I think.
* My Documents - 2 more CDs
* My Shared Folder - Music, Videos, etc. - 2 More CDs
* Assorted Program Files, Downloads, Zips - 1-3 more CDs
I have to try getting some of that done tonight though, as I can't possibly lug a suitcase, a messenger bag full of papers, and both my CD binders. I planned on giving them to Dad tomorrow morning when he comes to pick my stuff up (gah, surviving without my MP3s for a whole day!! The insanity!). So I have to get that done... I only make exceptions for WDKY (Sites) and such, as I can always carry that CD in a portable case with me.
I'm working concurrently on WDKY10 and Dragonfayth-- I present to you some background options I've tinkered with, for the official Dragonfayth skin. Tell me which one you like the best, and I'll use the one with the most votes! (Also, if you have any experience with CSS and want to tell me which colors in the BG would also look good for certain elements-- text, links, headers, backgrounds of tables, etc. then let me know)

* Note that the backgrounds really aren't that small; they're screencapped from Windows Explorer.
DF now has 8 approved authors (Mamono, Atlantis, Kysra, Harley, Yami White Rain, myself, akaVertigo, and Hiana)! So far, I think 3 people have expressed interest in Mod positions? In case you were thinking about it, and want to know more, here are the details:
* You take charge of a specific category, such as Challengefics, Alternate Universes, etc, and approve all the incoming stories for that category. You must make sure that the fics abide by site guidelines.
* You make sure that any questions, comments, or errors regarding your area are answered, or otherwise brought to me.
* You work with the other mods to ensure that fics are properly categorized and such.
I'm also looking for a mod who is interested in maintaining various Skins and such. Such a person would:
* Create various skins for the site, revolving around the Yu-Gi-Oh characters. These skins would be based off the existing skins, and the creator would be provided with all the necessary files (*.tpl files, which can be edited in a text editor, *.html for the manual, *.css for the style sheets, and *.gifs or *.jpgs for the images).
* Test the skins for each section of the sites (main page, review, author, character, search, and recent pages). It's not that hard-- you basically just click around each section of the site and see if your images and colors show up.
A question for the authors currently there--
Harley: did you want the 'e' on the end of your name, or not? Currently, it's 'Harlequin'
Kysra: did you want Guardian to prefix your name, or no?
Yami White Rain: did you want the underscores in your name, or no? I think you're allowed to have spaces...
Today I went out relatively early-- I first hit up Japantown with the hopes of picking up Yu-Gi-Oh 37 and 38, or if not that, then at least 37 and a crepe. But I discovered a rare and single copy of Star Ocean #3 (Celine), so I snagged it while I had the chance. ;_; There's plenty of 37s and 38s to get... tomorrow! Maybe... ;_; Mom said she can't give me any more money (she gave me $20 over the past two days; I spent it on 1 manga, 3 plastic containers at The Container Store, and 1 admission to Aquarium by the Bay) until Friday morning when we leave...
*wails* And going to Kinokuniya just made it worse. I mean seriously... I made a list of all the manga I haven't snagged yet:
* Full Moon o Sagashite 1, 2, 4, 6 @ $6.05/ea.
* Yu-Gi-Oh 37, 38 @ $6.05/ea.
* Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (reprint) 9, 10, 11, (12) @ $6.55/ea. (12 isn't out yet, and they were out of 10. So I think I could special order 10?)
* Peach Girl 18 (special order) $6.05
BUT! There is a bright side. I have all summer to:
a) get a job
b) learn to drive
c) annoy someone to lend me their car for a day
d) go to Los Angeles central and go to the Kinokuniya THERE and snag said manga
^_^;; Wish me luck...?
I'm definitely going to miss Sophie's Crepes, though. Hopefully I can somehow snag another $10 out of Mom tomorrow (er, I was sort of hoping people would pay for my movie, but that might be a bit selfish) so that I can go to Trish's Donuts by the pier and get a bag of yummy minis, go to Sophie's and get a crepe (I'm such a pig, but SF food is so goooooood!!). Worse comes to worse, I might have to hold off on the treats (all the more reason to pig out on them when I come back for Christmas) and just spend the money on a movie tix (Metreon is so expensive!). This is, of course, entirely assuming I get any money in the first place...
After Japantown, I went to the St. Francis. -_- You can tell I'm ready to be a SoCal native because I saw this too-cute pink and black dress with this big flower on it in BCBG Maxzaria, and I wanted it so bad. ME, shopping at exclusive, uber-pricey boutiques like that? GAH, I'm turning into my cousins! >_< Oh yeah, and the Compass Rose is officially gone. Now it's Michael Mina, and I hate it already. For one, it doesn't look THAT different. Maybe if you look at the carpet or something, I suppose it is... They took the whole front portion of the entrance and turned it into a lounge-- and the cheap bastards ROPED IT OFF. To prevent tourists from sitting down, I guess. They think anyone not staying at the St. Francis and wanting to sit down is "street trash!?" GRRR!!!
Well, so I wen to the Container Store and spent about 20 minutes looking for clear, plastic containers to put my True Colors powders in. They're part of a makeup set that, when mixed with water, turn into liquid eyeshadow, blush, or bronzer, are eyeshadows or glitters on their own, and when mixed with a base, can be lipsticks or glosses. It was super expensive when Baba bought it for me ages ago... and somehow between middle school (yes, I had it back then. I remember because William Lau or somesuch spilled pink powder all over himself in 8th grade Science) the tubes (which are stacking "pots") twisted onto one another and got stuck. I broke the rims trying to force them open, or I twisted them the wrong way/too tightly. I gave up on that whole idea tonight, and just BROKE into the plastics with a screwdriver. ^_^ And I don't have any new orifices, so I'd say it was a success.
Anyway, I took the first F that came my way, and got off at the Terminal, over at Walgreen's and Embarcadero. I was only 11 minutes late, and the first thing Joe and I did was go to McDonald's. For a tourist spot, that McD's is REALLY small. We snagged a seat in the corner and talked a bunch before he ate (I only had one fry; I haven't eaten fast food since Super Size Me, and In-N-Out does not count as fast food, since they actually COOK their own food). The salt crystals in his fries were unusually large, though. o_O
After that, we headed to Pier 39. I had these Group tickets for Blue and Gold fleet-- from AGES ago, but the guy working the cashier was nice enough to redeem them for current tickets. He said they were good for up to six months, so technically I could have used them up at a later date, but one of the Bay Cruises left at 6pm, so we headed to the welcome center and the aquarium in the meanwhile. At the WC, we traded this 'Fun Pack' certificate Joe had for some coupon booklet. They had this scratch off thing for a magnet, but somehow between the welcome center and the aquarium entrance, I lost it. ;_; I really wanted that magnet! I'm such a klutz...
The Aquarium was cool-- I'd been there once with my Dad, but he kinda rushed me through it. And Joe had never been, so I felt pretty cool. I bought his ticket with the rest of my money, while I got in free from a certificate from, of all people, the garbage men. ^_^ The stupid cashier obviously didn't understand what FREE meant, let alone $2 off. She spent so long just trying to figure it out. -_- And it wasn't like she was a FOB or anything; she was white and spoke English, she was just DUMB.
We didn't see any octopi (octopii?) though, which was kind of a bummer, but we saw all sorts of other cool fish. I can't believe people eat anchovies. They don't look like something you'd want on a pizza. My favorites, of course, were the clown fish. I have favorites in every species of animals, and of the fish, clown fish are up there. I'm not sure what family they're in, but I also like seahorses (kaiba-tachi!) There were some pretty old-looking and scary fish too, once we got to the actual Under the Bay exhibit, with the clear tunnel and the moving walkway. (I used to think BART was like that, and that it ran under the bay in a clear tube. I was so disappointed when I didn't see any fish!) There were some wolf eels, some sheep fish (and they change genders!), and a lot of other oddballs. Some of them were SOO lazy (and I don't mean sleeping). These fish just parked themselves on the tube and stared down at us. Some went by the sides. You could totally tell that the fish thought *we* were the exhibit. Lots of leopard sharks, though. ^_^ Once on that estuary trip in 4th grade, I caught one and got to pet it. It felt like a kitty's tongue.
Afterwards, there was a "touch" exhibit-- I pet the skate ray (and got my sleeve totally soaking in the process), and my arm stayed freezing for about 2 hours afterwards. :P I also pet the leopard shark again (you have to pet it in a certain area, or it'll bite you), and a starfish (which was a cross between spiky and gooshy). After that, we left the aquarium and headed to the docks. It was just 5:45, so we were at the end of the line, but we still got on the boat.
It was sunny when we initially left the docks, but it got very cold, windy, and foggy as we ventured further into the bay. Matter of fact, it was so foggy that it looked like it was raining outside, and when we got to the Golden Gate Bridge, you couldn't even see the suspension or the the road. All you could see was about half of the base (that goes down into the ocean). I could barely make out Fort Point and the Civil War Museum. We went up to the deck for part of the ride, but it was super crowded and hard to maneuver up there, so we went back down and chilled in the lower deck for the rest of the ride. It was nice just being together like that for a while...
Yeah, and in case you don't already know, I'm going to tell you... and I'm not ashamed to admit it, I'm still very much in love with Joe. Yep. It's tough leaving and everything, and I feel BEYOND EXTREMELY STUPID for all the drama that's gone on between us in the past, but if anyone deserves to suffer for the idiotic things I've done, it's me. I mean, he's over me and everything, and I'm moving. He's graduating and he'll probably get a cushy job, find some wonderful woman, and get married. I'm out of his life now, really... I mean, everyone makes those promises to write and call, but we barely did that when we broke up the first time (when we promised to 'stay friends') so... I don't know, I don't want to be too hopeful. I was at Fanime, and that turned out to be a disaster (romantically-speaking, anyway). I know that if he graduates in April or whenever, I'm coming back. ^_^ He came to my graduation, so it's only fit that I go to his.
Once we got off the boat, we went to RTA. (Hey, did you know some of the sea lions have come back from mating in the Channel Islands? It was so reassuring seeing them again. I love sea lions.) Joe and I played one game of DDR (thank god for Free Versus/Double)-- and some of the songs were... er, telling? Or maybe I was just reading too much into them (but what would you think about songs like "Still in my Heart" and "Summer Love?" We also did "Drop the Bomb" --and I heard about Richie's 9/11 Oni Course, which got my mom thinking he'd be investigated by the FBI-- and Burnin' the Floor Momo Mix).
We left not long after that-- it was too bad Jeremy wasn't there, because I wanted to say goodbye to him. I'd traded my tickets for a lollipop, a tootsie roll bank (#4!), some sticky earrings, and a twist ring. :P So, no unicorn statuette (1200 tix), but maybe some other time. Like, after Freeplay comes back in September. ^^;
And then we hopped the F to the Embarcadero BART, where we had one last kiss goodbye. Of course, being the ditz I am, I had the audacity to ask if my lip gloss tasted funny, as that was what "Jounouchi" had told me at Fanime (when we did that "Will Yuri for Yaoi" sign, and we kissed). Obviously, NOT the right thing to say. Joe wasn't mad or anything, but I'd clearly made the moment more awkward than necessary, and... well, of course I feel stupid. I was definitely channeling the air headed, bubble-brained, Valley Girl today.
Like, you know, totally! Duh, whatever.
Went home on the 31, talked to Dad and Baba (shiz, I need a VCR!!!!!!!!!!), but I didn't get a chance to beat my high score in Bejeweled (I have it on my Flip Phone of Doom). I got up to 4000+ while at Mom's work, but stupid screensaver kicked in!! ;_; Must try again later.
I better get to that burning now, finish up some last minute packing. Dad's gonna be here in 8-10 hours...
(P.S. Can you believe my MOM has a La Bouche CD --what I'm listening to now? I wish she'd told me when I went to FAITH, so I could have gotten it autographed. Even though the La Bouche we saw isn't completely the same as the ones on the CD... I mean, Melanie died... ;_;)
...of course, this only occurred for a few people, and I didn't care to snoop through all the files. I deleted them all-- off the CD temp folder and off my HD, because it's a total waste of space. I wouldn't mind taking over the one-shots or challenge-fics categories. I'm the guru with those and I wouldn't mind hosting bi-weekly/monthly challenges if it were an option :)

Date: 2004-07-23 04:31 am (UTC)Hmm, I guess being listed as an author probably means you have to, like, write and stuff. Dude, what a concept. The mind, it boggles. ^_^ Maybe if I slap "As Is" hard enough it will magically change into something sane and storylike? Moderating sounds mighty tempting but I think I'll keep my hand down and stick to banners; I'm way too much of an elitist snob to be allowed into any position of authority. (3) Open it up in Photoshop (don't ask me-- I saw the same file types in the Tools folder, so... who knows?)
I have a document all about making skins and using the *.tpl files, if you're at all interested.
The layout I'm messing with the fancy backgrounds for is the main, default layout. For the character skins, I plan on having all one-color BGs, and everything else (banners, icons, etc.) will have char. pics on them. Of course, I'm not sure if I can handle making as many as I'd like, which is why I need a skins-mod.

If you mean volunteering for mod jobs, I have yet to hash out exact qualifications, but I'm pretty much talking to anyone that's interested and has a decent amount of experience with fics, archives (esp. FFnet), and S/A.
