I hate it when this happens-- you're on your way to do something, and you're halfway there, but you suddenly forget what it is you have to do or where you have to go.

Hrm... in other news, I've just discovered DSF's "Sakkaku," even though it's not of my usual pairing. Matter of fact, Téa and Seto don't seem hooked up with anyone in particular in this fic... o_O Or maybe I missed the warnings. While it's got a highly original plot and is thus far very vividly written and in-character, every time I see the word "hikari," I cringe.
I mean, it's FANON. Fangirl-invented. Some wise-arse 12 year old out there thought, "*giggle* Hey, so like, Yami means darkness, and so like, the other half of him, like, Yuugi, he's gonna be called the 'hikari,' cuz it means 'light!' hehe!" Never once in ALL of Yu-Gi-Oh, be it anime, manga, dub, or sub, has ANYONE called the hosts of the "Dark halves" "Hikari" or "Light." It just ticks me off, because this is widespread knowledge now, and people just ignore it in their blissfully fangirl ways.
It's an excuse to NOT use the names characters were given. Contrary to what you may have learned in 3rd grade English, is is okay to use someone's NAME as an attribute tag. That means you don't have to say "the spikey-haired one spoke" or "the violet-eyed boy screamed." The same goes for "hikari." It's used in the same way, and it's WRONG, and it's USELESS. Yuugi is Yuugi is Yuugi. Call him by his name. That's why he HAS one, for Pete's sake.
Gah, and if you're going to give people separate bodies, KEEP them separate. Don't give them mindlinks or psychic powers or... I mean yeesh. I know it sounds like I'm ranting at this point, but when you have something that has the potential not to be goodfic, but GREATFIC, the little things just GLARE out at you, like bright neon... flashers of doom. *sigh* You know what I mean. It just ruins things. It can always be done another way.
And spelling errors! Grammar I can understand, because not everyone under the sun has a college reading and writing level, and I guess some people don't have Microsoft Word, with its Grammar Check. BUT SPELLING!? Even Dreamweaver has a spell check. It's one of FFnet's basic rules to Spell Check, anyway. So when I see words that are glaring errors (not like 'its' and 'it's' mixed up, a common thing with a lot of words), I wonder-- how did the author MISS this? Gee, er, maybe because they got LAZY!? -_- I hate that.
Geh, and Marik/Malik, Ryou/Bakura... >_< I admit I've used the Ryou/Bakura thing in WDKY slightly, but NEVER in dialogue. No one ever calls "Ryou" by his first name, not even (actually especially not) his darker half. It's one thing to claim differentiation for the fans, but you don't need to do it with names. Again-- that's what the prefix 'Yami' is for. If you go by the dub, yeah, sure "Yami" also happens to be the moniker that Dark Yuugi takes when he duels and such, but it's not really his "name," by the definition of the word. He's the Nameless Pharaoh, he's Atemu, he's... not Yami. Gah, well he is, but... you know what I mean. It might have exceptions with him, but not with Bakura and Marik.
Anyway, I'm going to go back to reading, and catch up on Journals later. I'm feeling uninspired for my own fics, hard as I try, so WDKY, while sitting merrily on my taskbar, remains unfinished. -_- Can't blame a girl for at least making the attempt, can you?
Yeah, and all the big, emotional (EMO!MER) stuff I'll post Thursday night before I leave. Yep, yep. Better hold me to that, guys.
