azurite: (sailormoon - mars M)
[personal profile] azurite
Ah, the question so many of us Moonie fans ask ourselves and others. We take quizzes, we read profiles, we watch episodes and do panel-by-panel comparisons of the manga. But there's still a huge selection of personality in each of the soldiers, from the very first (Sailor Venus) to the newest (Sailor Chibi-Moon), along with those from beyond (the Sailor Starlights), and those that only appear in the manga (Sailor Kakyuu).

But for me? Well...stop me if you've heard this one before! ^_~

Once again, this meme, closing in on its end, is brought to you by Sailor Failures.

I finally got something of the Tumblr system clarified by Frizzy over there, btw. I asked even though it had nothing to do with the Sailor Failures topic (Sailor Moon, obviously), because Tumblr's own FAQ sucks, as does trying to Google the answer anywhere, even on answers-oriented websites. :( Anyway Frizzy, not like I think you read this, but I asked only because I knew you'd answer. So thanks!

I've mentioned in previous posts how my canon of choice is the anime, then the manga, then the video game (SMAS), then Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (the live action), in that order. Having no experience with the musicals, I can't really comment on them.

So, looking at the personalities of the Senshi as they are in the anime, not any of the other forms of canon, I'd say I'm most like Rei Hino/Sailor Mars. I mean, we're both Aries, to start with, fire signs in every sense of the word (manga!Rei is supposed to be an Aries too, of course, as she has the same birthday and everything, but she doesn't fit the profile nearly as well, which makes me wonder if Naoko did much astrological research beyond what planets are associated with what signs), and we're dark-haired, pale beauties. ^_~

Anime!Rei and I can be fairly hot-headed--if you push the right buttons. We can both get pretty crazy (in both good and bad ways) about certain things...and we're both 100% loyal, perhaps to a fault. We're both extremely passionate, sometimes (okay USUALLY) loud people, looking for outlets for all the crazy energy that's inside us--Rei has her fire powers as Sailor Mars, but also her duties as a shrine maiden. Me? I think I'm like one of those carbonated beverage bottles that you can never open fast enough...my energy fizzles out in short, messy bursts!

A lot of the things that irritated Rei in the anime irritated me, too: things like Usagi's constant distraction, Mamoru's inattentiveness, Minako trying to "help" and causing more harm than good...stuff like that. But that doesn't mean I think Rei's reactions to things were always right. Or at least, I don't now. When I first watched Sailor Moon, Raye (as I knew her) was older than me, and I admired her, much the same way I admired pretty much all the Scouts. When I got to be 14-15, the age of the Scouts in the anime, I understood some of what they had gone through as teenagers, but certainly not all of it...I'd had a very different childhood at that point, and of course, didn't have magical powers or battles to distract me.

I think Rei seems more like a modern Japanese teenager of the 1990s, blending traditional Japanese elements with the "cosmopolitan" wants of a girl that age. I can definitely respect that, because I think very few 14-year-olds really have any idea what they want to do with their lives, no matter how mature they seem to be. I think the manga made the girls (all of them, not just Rei) seem more mature than their ages; the manga seems to make the girls act so much older than girls that age, living in Tokyo during that time, would, I think.

Do you think I'm more like another Senshi, or that I have other traits in common with Rei? What about you? Which Soldier are YOU most like?
