azurite: (cat: what the shit is this!?)

The day before yesterday I got about 3 hours of sleep. Dad called me shortly after I'd finally managed to fall asleep without the help of a sleeping pill. He was mad that I was letting the mugging get to me in this way, and told me to get my ass out of bed and start to DO things. Exhaust myself each day, give myself more tasks than I could possibly handle, and stop being afraid.

It worked. I spent a chunk of the day doing some computer stuff (catching up on [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses stuff, including Hall of Fame banners, which has been my real crime the past few months)-- sure, not wearing me out physically any, but I did do a bit of cleaning as well. Yesterday was the real accomplishment-- I woke up at 6:30am and decided "Hell, if I'm already awake, I might as well stay awake." It looks like it's a continuing thing, since I'm awake now, too. So I went downstairs and made myself a nice (albeit a bit greasy) breakfast of eggs and sweet bread, got the newspapers, and settled down to read. It was nice to have the table all to myself-- one of my issues with living with my grandparents is that sometimes they act like I'm not here at all, and it bothered me-- I didn't feel welcome at the kitchen table, where we usually eat, because the only place for me to sit was often occupied by Baba's foot, a pile of newspapers, or a bunch of dinner implements.

Grandpa was pretty surprised when he came down about an hour later; he thought I'd up and left for San Francisco. That kind of surprised me too, for him to think I would just leave my room a huge mess, the light and fan on (I only had the light on at 42%, and I always leave the fan on the lowest mode because my room's the hottest in the house, and we don't use AC) and not tell them in advance or even leave them a note. That and I told them several times that I wasn't leaving until the end of the month....

Anyway, so I decided my project of the day would be to take one of Baba's suggestions from a while ago and switch the position of my bed and my endtable. She never liked my bed being so close to the window, and even though that meant I had it up against the wall (no worry of rolling off the bed from that side! ^^;), I thought she had a point-- I could make my bed easier, clean the windows easier, etc. First I took everything off my endtable... I'm one of those awful people who can't leave a single surface uncovered. I want to change that somehow, but it might involve some more moving around in here. There's quite literally no more room against any of the walls, except for the small one-person-wide walkway I made against the windows now. I moved the endtable out a ways, then got Blanca, our assistant (don't really know how to describe her; she does all the stuff that Baba and Grandpa can't do too quickly anymore) to help me flip the mattress and move the bed out. Then it was just a matter of moving the endtable into its new place, re-plugging in my lamp, and re-making the bed. So, half my room is fairly clean and nice looking, but there's still a lot to be done to keep me busy, which is good.

As a treat after doing all that, Baba and I went to this used bookstore. Baba warned me that the woman who owned the place was a bitch and that I might just be enough of a loudmouth to counter-act her. I wasn't sure whether to feel flattered or not. Turned out the woman there was the "bitch's" alternate for her days off, and she explained the system of donating books for credit and the existing credit quite easily. All mass market paperbacks are a minimum of $1, up to 20% below their cover price, Sci-Fi with a minimum of $2, and bargain room stuff for 25 cents each, 5 for $1, or 15 for $2. The bargain room selection sucked, but I got myself Wicked (even though I already read it and like the musical more than the book-- oh, for shame!), two older Susan Wiggs books, a Star Trek hardcover called "Q-Squared," a Halloween collection called "Witch Fantastic," the third Myst book, "Book of D'Ni," an Alias prequel novel, that "Snow White, Blood Red" book I mentioned a while back that I thought had a different title and was edited by Tanith Lee (it's not), aka "Snow White, Blood Red," an old, old Star Trek (as in, the original series) paperback called "The Kobayashi Maru" (b/c srsly, how can I resist the true story of how Kirk got out of that one!?), "Everyone Worth Knowing," from the author of "The Devil Wears Prada," a mystery novel set in Ancient Egypt called "Murder in the Place of Anubis," and a mystery foodie novel set in San Francisco called "Chocolate Quake" (it has a seal balancing a chocolate cake on its nose on the cover; so cute!). So I've got loads to read! We spent $40 on used books! A lot, but we got close to 20 books between us, I'm sure.

We got some delicious In-N-Out afterward, but by then (close to 4:30 or 5, I think), I was so exhausted, I started reading the "Book of D'Ni" and then passed out until 11:30. -_-; That bit wasn't in my plans. I woke up and had a super-late dinner of leftover Chinese food from the other day (mm, beef with broccoli) and then went right back to reading the third Myst novel.

And now here I am, it's a new day, there's still plenty to do, and I think I'm doing better, bit by bit. I'm still supposed to check out self-defense and/or yoga classes available at CSUN, possibly through the health center on the orders of Dad, and also see if there are any Pepper Spray Training classes (armed and dangerous Mer! Hi-yah!) offered by the Dept. of Public Safety on campus... even though I'm not going to even be in Northridge for that much longer. -_-' My dad's logic escapes me, but I'll do it anyway.

Today's menu of activity:
* Dog getting groomed (she looks like a brown fuzzball with an invisible face and a distinct odor....)
* Mall for hair, nails at the JCPenney Salon, also possibly some new Clinique goods and Macy*s shopping b/c I have my card again, paid it all off, and have a bunch of coupons
* Room: put clothes away/pack, organize magazines, put other junk away and not have bags and/or piles everywhere
* Computer projects: catching up on my Biology reading and taking notes, taking notes for Environmental Geology, making sure I'm up-to-date with my discussions for my other classes (mainly the Gender and Women's Studies class and my Recreation in the Natural Environment class), maybe working on the new BEA layout, approving any halfway-decent fics at Dragonfayth using the "Validate" tool (since the queue still seems broken), work on the RPGClassics/SO3 shrine, and who knows what else...

Never a shortage of things to do. No sense putting off for tomorrow what I can do today. Never a dull moment. Why become a lay-about? Etc. etc.

Also, from Mac|Life magazine (which I'm contemplating not renewing my subscription for, considering it's $24.95/year for 12 issues, which is OUTRAGEOUS for a magazine with 16 pages of non-stop advertising between pages 48 and 49): why I'm a Mac user:

Apparently that brain-scarring video is an actual Microsoft ad.

I LOL'd.
