On organization
Dec. 6th, 2007 09:54 pmSo I'm working hardcore on Epiphany, my fanworks archive... which I would LOVE to get up before, say, New Year's. And I'm happy to announce that my overhauling of the categories is going quite well. Right now, I've got it divided up by fandoms, like so:
Final Fantasy X
-Final Fantasy X (for all fanworks relating to pre-game, game, and slightly-post-game FFX)
-Final Fantasy X-2 (for all fanworks relating to FFX Intl: Another Story, aka FFX-2 Prologue: Eternal Calm, along with FFX-2 itself and any post-FFX-2 stuff)
Full Metal Panic!
Full Moon o Sagashite
Fushigi Yuugi
-Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden
-Fushigi Yuugi
General/Misc.
Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers)
Harry Potter
-Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
-Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
-Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
-Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
-Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Inuyasha
Original
Peach Girl
Pirates of the Caribbean
-Curse of the Black Pearl
-Dead Man's Chest
-At World's End
Ranma ½
Sailor Moon
Star Ocean
-Star Ocean 1
-Star Ocean 2: The Second Story
-Star Ocean: Blue Sphere
-Star Ocean 3: Till The End of Time
Yu-Gi-Oh!
-Yu-Gi-Oh! (Including Toei, NAS-produced Duel Monsters animes, manga)
-Yu-Gi-Oh! R
-Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
As you can see, I've only got a sampling of my major fandoms on this list, and I'm already trying to work out a sensible form of organization. For the major fandoms, I've got it divided up by "sub-fandom," e.g. spin-offs. I have a separate classification system for "Worlds," or forms of canon like Anime, Manga, etc., so that's not a problem for sorting.
What I am confused about is the organization for fandoms like Sailor Moon. How can I break it up without being specific to a "World?"For example, I can't do things like "Season 1," etc. because that doesn't apply to the manga. The events that happened in two movies had nothing to do with the manga, but one of them did; there were some special manga-only arcs (e.g. the exam hell chapters) that weren't in the anime at all. Plus, there's the live action, which was technically the "Dark Kingdom" arc, but it did things COMPLETELY different from either the anime or manga.
Plus, both pre- and post-series events differ-- for example, Silver Millennium or Crystal Tokyo. And then comes the tricky: where would AUs and ARs go? I think ARs can go into any of the "Season" sub-categories I sort of mentioned above, since ARs generally take off from a certain point in the given timeline, thereby establishing an "Alternate Reality." But AUs are a sub-category in and of themselves, because you can have an Alternate Reality that NEVER has anything to do with the main series beyond characters (and hopefully characterization). However, on rare occasions, ARs can be AUs-- for example, a Silver Millennium AR can alter events, like the first meeting of Serenity and Endymion, and make it an AU, if Beryl never becomes the Queen of the Dark Kingdom.
So would "Seasons" for a main category like Sailor Moon really work, or end up being too complex?
I'm thinking of doing something similar for some of the other fandom subcategories, like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Full Metal Panic... but I wouldn't know how to do it (if even necessary) for something pretty huge or already subdivided, like Inuyasha, Ranma, etc.
I don't want to be overkilling here, but it IS only for my fanfiction, no one else's. Help?
