I have no idea how the hell I'm so coherent in typing when ten minutes ago I couldn't even stand up and I was slumped against my bathroom door.
My surgery was scheduled for 10am this morning-- being that I didn't bring my cell phone or a watch, I have no idea when it actually started, but I do know that it was later. I got set up in The Chair and by the anesthesiologist pretty soon; the vein in my hand didn't take the IV, so they had to move it to my elbow. I remember mentioning how the latter person said it looked like it was taking (the IV), and the doctor saying could I open my mouth a bit more for the jaw pillow... and then I was gone.
When I woke up, I was woozy and had the gauze already in my mouth (guess you were right,
pockyken!), and my grandpa had to bring the car around. I don't really remember getting into it, but I do remember getting home and staring at the dining room table while I messed with some gauze after I could FINALLY eat (some cherry yogurt, not a lot- haven't eaten since then). The gauze makes me gag if I put it in small squares or in both sides. It's making me gag now, actually, so I'm going to take it out, bloody lips or no, and try to eat some eggs.
I know the gauze is there to help create the clot, but I'd rather not die of choking on a gauze. It's not like I'm spitting blood every few minutes or anything. My throat is so dry though... and my arms feel numb.
But I made it! And it doesn't hurt! Yay.

Re: I'm not here right now, if you'd leave a message...
Date: 2007-08-18 02:10 am (UTC)I think braces hurt far much worse than what you went through. I remember when I had two of my wisdom teeth pulled and it didn't hurt as much as when I had braces. I mean, that's just the back portion of your mouth, while braces is all around. :(

Date: 2007-08-18 05:09 am (UTC)I rolled my guaze up into blunt-sized rolls and clamped them on the wounds like a horse does to it's bit ^^; (not too hard, just ease in the normal pressure) You'l probably wanna invest in a pen and a pad ( with pre0written notes XD) for a week... 'cause there ain't anyway you're gonna talk with audiable clarity.
WHn I had it done, I coudn't swallow much of anything, but with the taste of my own blood in my mouth... I think water or chicken broth would suffice ^^;

Date: 2007-08-18 01:54 pm (UTC)However, my jaw, while still a bit stiff (just on the opposite side now, weird...) is perfectly functional-- I can talk so long as I don't have the gauze in my mouth, and I've already had two people tell me I don't REALLY need it since I'm not bleeding that much, or at least not constantly. I don't even taste the blood, which surprises me-- either part of my tongue has lost its nerves (possibly temporarily, though if it's permanent that would make me really upset), or I've just gotten SO USED to it, which is... a gross thought.
I've had a sore throat since the day before the surgery though, so when I do talk, I think I sound like a frog. I've already gone through 3 16 oz. bottles of water in a matter of hours, plus about the same amount in milk. I could taste the milk just fine, never any blood.
But soup does sound good right about now...
