...Make up!
Jul. 4th, 2007 02:13 amSo a simple post on a cosplay community about a Saturn henshin wand (fan-made, of course; all true Moonies know Saturn never was shown with a henshin wand) led me to YouTube, with a fan-made video of a Sailor Saturn transformation. Saturn also never transformed in the anime, even in SuperS during the specials or in Stars. Well, the "Outer" senshi weren't really around in SuperS except for the special, and Saturn was a child until she was re-reawakened near the end of the season. And when she and Pluto appeared in Stars, they were already transformed, as far as I can remember.
Now, a few of us know that in the Sega Saturn game (Sailor Moon S), Saturn DID have a transformation sequence, but there was still no wand. Her symbol appeared, but then she held her hand up, just like Sailor Moon did in season 1. And then bam! Transformed. We see no ribbons, no sparkles... nothing. She's just got the glaive and then BAM! Saturn sigil is behind her.
That symbol being there is what sets that sequence apart from any others-- the "Outers" get symbols when they transform ONLY in the video games. I don't think I've ever seen their transformation sequences in SuperS or Stars, but I know the general transformation is the same, even if they do get "Crystal powered up." The "Outers" don't change their wands, though. And the sequences I *DID* see with the glowing symbols behind them were from the same S game as Saturn's; they were NOT in their Super costumes.
That said, someone care to correct me about the "Outer" transformation sequences? Who has them, who doesn't, and do they still say "...Planet Power, Make Up!" rather than "...Crystal Power, Make Up!" like the Inner Senshi do?
Saturn loses her Crystal-shaped brooch and choker pendant when she gains her power-up, right? They turn into a heart and she, like the others, gets an extended bow in the back and a star applique on her choker. But that's it, right?
So some people made FAN-MADE transformations of Saturn that included a wand-- basically one with a purple globe on top, a six-pointed gold star with the Saturn sigil in the middle (rather than at the top, like the other "Outer" henshin wands), and then a blue stick with a smaller gold globe at the bottom.
And any transformation SEQUENCES that show her actually transforming (below) included this sequence (but in color). It's a bit fast, but you'll notice at the end that Saturn is undeniably in Super form, with an extended back-bow, front heart brooch, and star on her choker. Though interestingly enough, the back bow looks more like her Star form, which WE NEVER SEE IN THE ANIME, only in the manga. I say that because in all the Senshi's Super form, the back bow is wide; in their Star form, it's narrow. Sailor Moon is the only one with an "Eternal" form-- the others have "Star" forms. That is...
Sailor Moon -> Super Sailor Moon -> Eternal Sailor Moon (her Crystal and SMS forms had no special names)
Sailor Mars -> Super Sailor Mars (her "Star, Make Up!" had no special name) -> Sailor Star Mars (only in the manga; and I'm not 100% sure if the format for the name is right; it might be Star Sailor Mars?)
...you get the idea.
Also, when the Senshi power up to their "Super" forms (Sailor Moon uses "Crisis, Make Up!" or "Moon Crisis, Make Up," while the Inners use "...Crystal Power, Make Up!" and the "Outers" use their same wands/transformation words (I *THINK*) and the just get similar costumes (heart brooches, star appliques on collar, wide back bow, CHANGED ARM SLEEVES), Saturn's costume changes most of all, except maybe Sailor Moon herself. The video game transformation is from Super, so she still retains the crystal brooch, yadda yadda...
So in the above, the general sequence is from the Sega game; the transformation is from that *.gif, who knows who made that (though it looks good), and the wand and the coloring of the transformation *.gif are fanmade. In the end sequence, she's in her normal form (with the short back bow and crystal brooch/choker applique), rather than the Super one shown at the end of the *.gif.
In this one, it's fan-made and the author doesn't try to persuade you otherwise; it's supposed to be an animated version of the "Star" transformation had the Senshi powered up past their Super states in Sailor Moon Stars. I think this may have been the video that originally used the Saturn "transformation" sequence; that is, this creator used the original *.gif and modified it to look like it was Saturn's Star costume, and everyone just ripped off her video from there. The only thing I think is WRONG with it is Saturn's boot lining color-- I think it's supposed to be purple, not gold.
For shits and giggles:
If the person had just edited Usagi's voice to be a bit lower to work with the Outer's vocal ranges, it might have worked. The skirts don't look edited to suit the appropriate colors (well, except Uranus, and that's only because blue and yellow are already her defaults).
A decently-made fan-made "new Senshi" video to Evanescence (I know, I know):
. It uses some game movies. And the transformation wands are surprisingly familiar-shaped...
Yay for nostalgia-- someone had to put up Ash's "back-then-they-were-the-height-of-cool" AMVs... this is the Outer Transformation sequence one, which proves that in SuperS/Stars, the Outers never had a sequence-- they just "transformed" and that was it. And least, that's what I remember...
Lastly but not leastly, does anyone remember a sequence from Stars when the Starlights had a FULL transformation sequence, one that showed their guy-parts (well, most of them, anyway) turning into curvier girl parts? I've seen the one where it's just a "cut" scene of sorts-- they have guy-silhouettes on a blue starry background, and then a diagonal line cuts through and the background is now red and starry, but their silhouettes have become decidedly female.
