Why am I up this early in the morning...?
Jun. 9th, 2003 09:17 amIt's only 7:47, and this is the time of day I would be up and about if I were a) still in high school; b) still going to high school in the SUMMER or c) doing something school-related this early. I was originally going to-- do something school related, that is. Go to CCSF and go to the Registration office to get a copy of my original yellow priority ticket or somesuch. But there is only ONE class of Japanese 1A starting today, and it's at 9:30am. On any other day of the week, I would never be able to get up and get going early enough to get to the classes that start that early.
Of the three Japanese sections being offerred this summer, one starts today, one starts tomorrow, and another, the one I'd LIKE to get into, starts on the 23rd and is a night class that only meets twice a week. I still plan on going to CCSF later today to get the ADD form I couldn't print (stupid printer!!) and the priority ticket... =P But I guess if worse comes to worse, I'll have to take the class in the Fall. Maybe then I'll be in a higher-level Japanese class-- after all, I don't want SFSU thinking that by taking Elementary Japanese at CCSF I'm trying to get an easy way out; I just thought I needed to make up the credit, and the only available classes are Elementary Japanese. So what if it would end up being an easy A (the most likely scenario) because I know Japanese already... >_> Or maybe it wouldn't be-- I could end up with some evil professor, or CCSF's idea of "elementary" Japanese is much more difficult than what I'm used to. Who knows-- I'll go to the Registration place later.
But oh, oh, oh! Last night! ^_^! <-- LOOK! HAPPY FACE! Last night was a complete, utter, and TOTAL success, even if I ended up spending $34 on food and stuff I didn't get much of. But hey, people had fun, and THAT'S what matters! I ended up getting to Safeway by 5:00ish, and while wandering around the store, I bumped into Seigfred. Assuming I wouldn't be able to "jack" (in the lightest sense of the word, honest!) the cart to drag all our stuff to the beach (turns out Gate 24 WAS pretty far away... >_> Sorry Grace, you were right!). I had a huge bag of burnables, along with my canvas bag filled with the skewers, beach towels, and marshmallows. I was "supposed" to go buy more marshmallows, along with a Duraflame to get the fire started, and a lighter, since I neglected to bring one from home.
Long and short of it, Seigfred got some chips, cups, and soda himself, and we headed down to the beach to wait for everyone else, with 45 minutes till anyone was due to arrive. After a while, we got kind of bored, seeing that it was still light out and somewhat windy-- so we started to duel. But sometime after we got into it, I kept thinking I saw J.Po walk by (on the walkway above the beach) and got paranoid that if it WAS him, and he didn't see a bonfire, he'd just LEAVE-- which would dash away ALL my plans, all my hopes for the evening... yeah. All that mush. After a while, I asked Seigfred to call the game; he said it was a draw even though I had more LP than him. =P Ah well, it was a really good duel day for me that afternoon, but my heart just wasn't in it (I suppose you could say I was feeling particularly Seto-ish).
WELL, turns out that Aaron was on his way down, and had thankfully brought wood-- AND the guy I'd seen walking in the opposite direction of our 'set-up zone' *was* J.Po! So yeah, some awkwardness at first, since Aaron only knew Seigfred and myself, and well, J.Po was the odd one out, not being the type to come to RTA every Friday or whatnot (but he plays video games, so maybe that'd be a good idea...?). Well, it couldn't have been more awkward for ME, because I just was so relieved that J.Po even came I kept coming so close to just GLOMPING him! Not to mention being the only girl, I felt a little weird, and klutzed out SEVERAL times-- into the sand! *wrinkles nose* Well, at least some people got amusement from that!
It was starting to get cold and somewhat boring again, and I didn't want those present to think that THIS WAS IT and that we weren't going to have anything. So I figured we could get the bonfire started already, so we started trying to light the Duraflame; I couldn't do it, because the new lighter hadn't been 'broken in' yet and the trigger-handle was still pretty tough. Seigfred finally got it started, despite the wind, and we added some of Aaron's wood and my papers to keep it going. Slowly but surely, people started showing up after that-- I forgot what order, but I did call some people and they were indeed on their way. Katia came, and she brought muffins and other delish stuff, while Amber showed up a bit later with her mom-- they brought TONS of wood! ^.^v I was so happy to see Amber (after all this time, who wouldn't be?) that I pretty much tackled her to the sand. ^^;; Hehe... sorry about that Amber!
Eva showed up later-- Jonathan and I met her at the beach near Fulton; she had a bag of old papers, but she wanted to go to Safeway and get some hot dogs. It was a pain in the neck getting them too; when we finally thought we found the safest (i.e. non pork) ones, I rushed off to the bathroom-- and when I came back, Eva said they couldn't buy those hot dogs, because they were $9! -.- So we had to go back and get the correct kind for $5-- two packs of Hebrew Nation Knockwursts. @_@; Whatever those were... but they were yummy! Chris (Tidus) arrived later, and between all of us, we kept cracking "weiner" jokes about the hto dogs that made poor J.Po grin. ^_^ I loved every second of it. =P People were jealous of me because my weiner was black and juicy on the tip! All theirs were pink and limp! *snicker* Ahaha...
Let's see... as the night wore on, Vince, Jimbo, Erwin (of RSX fame) and the other Erwin showed up... am I forgetting anyone? Katia ended up leaving early (well, to me it was early... she had been there for a while) and Grace showed up shortly after Chris, Erwin, Amber, Aaron and I went to Safeway to get drinks. =P It wasn't my original intention to have alcohol (we thought Grace was going to bring a little for the people that drink SOCIALLY, like myself) since we had a shizaload of soda, but not too many people were fond of the styrofoam cups with sand in them. ^^; Besides, I had those cherry liquor chocolates, and while waiting for Amber at the Safeway the first time around, I had one-- tastes like the chocolate and cherry from the Ben and Jerry's "Cherry Garcia" ice cream. You can't even taste the liquor, but then I guess it starts to take effect, because I did act a little weird after that. But then maybe it was psychological...?
Anyway, my whole big goal for the night was to get Jonathan to open up some, and have some fun. I was pretty paranoid about a couple of things-- like how religious his family was, how "loose" he was in terms of having fun (whether he'd drink, whether he'd make conversation, whether he'd have jokes of his own to share), and the like. It's a lot harder than it sounds-- and I know this sounds weird, but Jonathan strikes me as the polar opposite of Mike in many ways. In terms of hanging out and conversationalism at least. But that's not a bad thing, not by a long shot! I still want to find out a lot about him, but we did manage to get some interesting tidbits out of him, like:
* His mom does secretarial/filing work at a doctor's office
* His dad works in the shipping/manufacturing industry
* His brother's name is David, not Bobby! YAY!
* He got the job of S5 because the BN Staff didn't know what else to do with him, and put him on staff too, as opposed to making him a company commander like he wanted... a bunch of juniors (will-be juniors) got those jobs. =P Maybe I should encourage him to try for BDE? It might be too late, and he might have already... >_> Plus BDE takes a lot of time... Hm.
* You do play the trumpet by making some sort of lip-buzzing (trilling, motorboat) sound. But Jonathan said you can't really demonstrate it without a mouthpiece. Still it would have been kind of cute to see him try.
I think I succeeded-- at least partially. Jonathan stuck around through the whole thing, and though he barely talked (he didn't drink any; I'm sure if he'd had even a LITTLE something it would have loosened his tongue... besides the Smirnoff Ice we had might as well have been Sprite, since it's only 5% alcohol!) I'm still very happy he was there. It's always great to see him smile (he has a fantastic smile!) whenever we made jokes and stuff. I'm sure he liked the people we hung out with, even though most were older than him (well... not Grace, Amber, and Aaron) ... and after much prodding from Eva and I as we left around 11:15, he said it was nice meeting everyone. Hehe, Erwin hadn't heard him and came up to find out what he'd said (see, J.Po's an intriguing guy!). ^.^
But I'm skipping over the BEST PART! I pretty much started to sidle closer to J.Po throughout the night, even if I disappeared on and off to get food with people. He didn't mind me snuggling around him, and he said as much-- a fact which made me VERY happy. I told him (like I tell EVERYONE I hang around) that if he got even a LITTLE uncomfortable with the way I was hanging around (or off, as the case might have been) him, then he had to tell me-- but he didn't mind. Well, just after it got dark, the ashes from the fire kept following us down, and we kept having to get up and move. Well I took the chance (since everyone else seemed "distracted") to take a walk with him-- and as I found out later, Grace and Amber IMMEDIATELY knew what I was up to, and Grace said we wouldn't be back for another half-hour! =P *phhhbbtt!* You didn't have to time me, Grace! *cry*
Hehe, anyway, the seaspray was good for getting the ashes out of our faces, and J.Po didn't mind that I was holding his hand as we traipsed down the beach over the bulldozed dunes (It's quite an exercise trying to climb over all of those, keeping pace with a guy whose legs are easily the length of your own legs + torso!). So I was trying to get him to open up some, and tell me what he was thinking or feeling about all of this. It was absolutely ADORABLE the way he kept stuttering (and he really did, honest-- which to me, was so OOC for J.Po when he first started doing it!) and saying stuff like "Uh, um, I don't... this is the first... I..." ^.~ I knew it was his first time on a "date" (well I didn't really see it as that, but he said that's what it felt like to him, so it's all good) and such... eventually I got him to stop walking and LOOK at me (and on the beach, it's just so much more apparent how much taller than me he is) -- I told him that on the stairwell last week, I "missed." THAT got his attention, just like I thought it would. All those lines that had been running around in my head all week ("I'm about to do something potentially dangerous and stupid, but I've been thinking about it -you- all week, and I just can't get you out of my head...") sort of ran away from me; they would have worked if we'd still been sitting at the bonfire, 'coz he would have been so much easier to kiss sitting down... *blush* ANYWAY ANYWAY...
So I asked him plain and straight out (without saying the K-word though!) if I would get another shot-- and he got all shy and speechless again (he says that all his friends are the talkative kinds, so that's why he never talks much! ^.~ I guess that definitely puts me in the friends category!) but "adjusted" himself appropriately. Even standing on my tip-toes, I couldn't quite reach him, so he had to twist/bend some-- but I finally KISSED HIM! *deflated sigh* YESSSS! And it wasn't just me either; even though he said (or tried to say in his stuttering voice-- gawh, SOOO CUTE!) he never had kissed anyone before, and the stairwell thing was the closest he'd ever gotten to a "real kiss" he didn't mind that his first kiss was going to be ME, or anything like that. He tried to kiss me back in his own gentle way, and it was just so perfect on so many levels. Of course, I wanted to do it again, but he was being pretty rigid and blushing-- I could tell, since there were other bonfires around us. We made our way back to OUR bonfire and stayed close the rest of the night-- it was very pleasant.
Earlier, I'd gotten my hands on a Smirnoff Ice, but as of late (recent parties, that is) I've never been able to completely finish one. Oh yeah, Richard and Harry (the latter in his full battle dress uniform/camos!) came earlier, and Richard and I nearly got into a Smirnoff chug-fest-- it was so amusing. -.- Richard fancied himself drunk too, though I don't think he had any Vodka... we bought orange juice and cranberry juice too, so we had supplies enough to make some good mixers. I tried my Smirnoff with some Cranberry juice, and suddenly the bottle got a LOT fuller... @_@... Eva wanted to try some too, and liked it a lot more (than the original stuff)! It was pretty weird seeing Eva drinking and swilling down Smirnoff, but she looked like she was having fun. Aaron was hanging off her most of the night anyway, which I thought was cute. But you know me, highly overprotective of my friends, especially my best buds like Eva. ;_; I still can't believe she's going to UCLA in August!
I don't remember exactly when it was, and maybe I was very SLIGHTLY tipsy (not like those times at Blind Tiger, or any of the times Grace mentioned when I got "smashed" -I forgot what her exact words were- with Mike and Amber... I don't think I was ever "SMASHED"...) and Joe, Jimbo (!) and I started singing songs from Moulin Rouge. The vodka (I had ONE capful!) cleared up my sinuses and killed any residual grossness in my throat... my voice came back pretty strong! I think it still needs SOME recuperation, but it's not as if I have any choir competitions coming up! *laughs* It was funny up till the point where we got to the part in "Your Song" where Christian (Ewan McGregor's character) says "We should be lovers..." and I was too shy to keep singing. Besides, Joe forgot the words, and Jimbo did most of the "singing!"
Well, I wanted to leave with Jonathan, since well... I just wanted to! At 11:15, he said that he'd better get going then, else he be late. It was a good thing he didn't have a curfew; he said he'd never stayed out late enough before for his parents to set a curfew for him! I hope that's still true, especially considering that he's a) such a good student; b) not a bad boy-- he didn't even have a SIP of any alcohol; c) it's summer, and not like he has any school or early-morning activities he has to wake up early for. ^.~ So Eva, Jonathan and I all left the bonfire; some people had already left earlier, and mostly it was Jimbo, Erwin, Erwin RSX, Vince, Amber, Grace, and Joe left. Chris too, I think... o_O Yeah, Chris too. But Aaron had left earlier. Eva decided to walk down Fulton to her house, while Jonathan and I headed to the 31/38 stop over on La Playa, next to the Safeway. It was nice just standing there sort of snuggled together, and this time he had more of a grip on me. ~_~ *blissful* There'd been fireworks earlier, and people had bonfires that were huge because they were throwing kerosene and lighter fluid in... one group was even burning a stepladder! A very nice night, even if it was cloudy and gray at first.
Once on the bus, it turned out both of us were much sandier than we thought, and Jonathan (who'd been helping me carry my stuff-- such a gentleman!) and I dusted ourselves off. I sort of napped on him on our way there; he didn't relax all that much, but I guess it's because I said "if I fall asleep, you'll have to wake me up when it's my stop." Maybe he took me too literally; it's pretty hard to fall asleep on a speeding bus anyway! The bus driver let us get off right at 15th Avenue-- I'd asked J.Po if he minded walking me to my door, but, like I told him, I wouldn't have guilt-tripped him if he'd just wanted to go straight home, maybe avoid the potential parent's wrath, or just awkward moments. But he walked me to my door anyhow, and we talked about innane things on our way there; how his brother had had a bird one time, a bird that only liked his brother, and it attacked Jonathan on a few occasions. The bird liked to share David's (Jonathan's brother... I said that earlier) food, and one time ate some sticky rice and choked. ^^; The parents had been trying to find a way to get rid of the bird anyway, since David's allergic to bird dander (or whatever it's called that birds give off). It was all quite funny and nice to get him talking.
When we finally got to my house, I did invite him upstairs, but we just ended up staying in the stairwell-- I don't recall exactly how it happened, but we ended up kissing again, and that was very, very, very, very (I could go on forever here) nice. He looked somewhat bashful and shy still in the end (probably 'coz he moved originally, and I ended up kissing his neck) but he was smiling-- gwah, he has SUCH a nice smile. Him and his brother both. I think I might have been making him a little knock-kneed though! Hehe, I've never seen him so adorably shy before! ^.^v Well, today's the mandatory "one-day breather," but hopefully one of us will call the other tomorrow. He says he's got some week-long camp thing coming up... =P But he's not doing much besides ROTC for the summer. I hope we both stick to our guns and hang out this summer, because (if it isn't obvious by now) I really like him, and he knows as much. ^.^ All in all, this summer's starting to turn out great.
It's starting to get later in the morning... my inboxes are getting cleaned out, and I'm slowly getting tired. My legs (sore from growing pains earlier, it seems?) are feeling better since I knocked down some aspirin and a waffle breakfast. I guess it's time to go back to sleep. *yawn* Sweet dreams of Jonathan ahead... yay!
Of the three Japanese sections being offerred this summer, one starts today, one starts tomorrow, and another, the one I'd LIKE to get into, starts on the 23rd and is a night class that only meets twice a week.
*yawn* Sweet dreams of Jonathan ahead... yay!
wow =P
