Time for this card to hit the deck!

Oops, Viz did it again. Actually, they did it a while ago, and I just noticed now, when I bought Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist 14 and 15 today at Borders with my Personal Shopping Day Discount. In Duelist 15, Mokuba calls his older brother "Kaiba" repeatedly (one of my greater sources of ire in regards to the Viz "translation" --read: butchered-for-marketing edit), there's the ongoing Marik, Ishizu, and Slifer name usage, and I think they edited Shizuka so that her shorts are now pants, or she's wearing hugger jeans underneath her shorts. In the anime, she wore shorts, didn't she? I dunno, can someone compare Duelist 15 to the original volume 22?
And since when does Honda refer to Otogi as "Ryuji"? (note the missing extra u/circumflex. Why do they do that?) And Mai immediately recognized Shizuka as Jounouchi's sister, saying that they had the same hair. Did she mean shape or color? In the anime, Jounouchi's hair is blond, as it is on the colored covers of the manga, but Shizuka never appears in color in the manga (afaik). They both seem to use the same screen tone to indicate darker-than-normal (Yuugi's "blond" color is left white, so Jounouchi's blond must be darker, like a dirty blond), but if it's the same color, Shizuka is neither a redhead nor a lavender-haired girl, like she was in the anime! SHOCK!
Oh, and something else-- in the real OCG/TCG, Valkyrion the Magna Warrior isn't a fusion monster. It's an effect monster with Special Summon restrictions. It specifically says that Alpha, Beta, and Gamma must be Sacrificed/Tributed-- something Kaiba did in his duel with Light Mask and Dark Mask using Cross Sacrifice/Soul Exchange. Mask of Restrict prohibited him from Tributing his OWN monsters though, so once Yuugi's Valkyrion was taken over using the Mask of Possession (a remnant of Masked Beast of Guardius, which I *SWEAR* was called Des Guardius, or Death Guardius in the anime), Kaiba used that card, trusting in Yuugi to use De-Fusion (even though it was unnecessary; Valkyrion's not a Fusion or even a Union monster; its effect says that the CONTROLLER can separate Valkyrion so long as the 3 Magnet Warriors exist in THAT PERSON'S graveyard-- which is why only Yuugi would have been able to do it, not Kaiba or the Masks).
I seem to be going further backwards with this post-- in the manga, Anzu wasn't chained to a chair with a heavy crate above her head. She had a cyanide pill in her mouth which Malik threatened to force her to swallow-- thus killing her. Much harder to stop or avoid (I know, a pill compared to a crate), especially since the slightest thing could cause her to choke on it and swallow. Mokuba was still held hostage, but without Anzu having played any role in his escape, Mokuba probably has little to no feeling for her in the manga. Actually, Kaiba had NO reason whatsoever to help Yuugi out in the duel against the Masks, except that they pissed him off. :P More proof that anime!Kaiba is meant to be more caring and less psychotic than his manga counterpart.
Anyway, I'll post an update on what happened this past week in San Francisco later on; my camera's out of batteries, and Scott has to resize and send me images he took with his camera after mine died. I'll make a whole new gallery over at my LJ Scrapbook for people to enjoy. :D
Hey, will SOMEBODY please look at what I've posted of WDKY24 over at

Date: 2006-07-25 12:30 pm (UTC)However, in the German manga Honda refers to Otogi as Otogi and Mokuba calls his brother Seto. I like Nii-sama better, but Seto isn't bad either. At least he doesn't call him "Kaiba". And the monster is called Death Gardius.
But I couldn't find the scene with Mai and Shizuka you described in volume 22. In my version the dialog goes like this:
Honda: Mai!
Mai: Ah! Honda! Haven't seen you in a long time!
He, he! Where's Jounouchi?!
Honda: Somewhere else. We've just arrived here.
We're on our way to him ... with her ... (looking at Shizuka)
Mai (sweat-dropping, thinking): !! His girlfriend?
(Then, after seeing Shizuka; thinking): Jounouchi's sister.
I've heard that her operation was
a success, thanks to the winning
money.
Mai: I got it. I'm going to come with you!
Otogi, asking Honda: Who's that?
Mai, talking to Shizuka: Shizuka...
Shizuka: (thinking: A girl?) Yes?
Mai: Your brother is a real man! Even now he's fighting for you somewhere!
... and so on
But nothing about Shizuka's hair color. Or is that in another volume?
(Please excuse my bad english as it's not my mother language)

(I just hope the link works)
I guess the Japanese language gives way too much leeway as how to translate things 'cause the fan translation also differs slightly from the German manga.
