Okay, I'm at home sick today, with a lot to do (study abroad essays to finish and get checked; a 25-page story to condense) and none of the motivation to do so. So of course I'm going to distract myself with other things.

First off, many people have been incredibly generous to the areas affected by the Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Those that can actually go and help are brave and courageous; those that can't and still make the effort to help in whatever way they can are showing how much they care, even if it's for people they don't know in a place they've never been.

But when disaster hits close to home --people you know and care about-- it's different.

One of my good friends on this FL had her house very badly damaged, and she lost one of her tools of the trade-- her scanner. I think many of you know who I'm talking about by now... That's right, [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra!

If you like this incredible style of artwork and, like me, you want to see more, help me give Kysra a Christmas present this year. Namely, a scanner. I would like to ask Kysra's opinion on what she really wants in a scanner, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of having a Christmas present-- not to mention I think she would go "No, no, no!" and I don't wanna hear it. :P

Here's the deal: This is the scanner I'm looking at. It's a high-quality, but standard-size flatbed scanner compatible with both Macs and PCs, and it comes packed with software goodies and TRILLIONS of colors. If ever we wanted to see Kysra's fabulous art in its truest form, a scanner like this would sure do the trick.

Better yet, it's from Epson, one of the trusted names in printers and scanners! And to put the cherry on top, it's only $99.99! So if we get 10 people together to donate $10 each, it's paid for! Obviously, people are iffy about sending checks or cash anywhere, so I'm setting this up with a safe guarantee: donate to my PayPal account and I will buy the scanner through CompUSA.com (using my PayPal/Visa) and then I'll ship it to wherever Kysra is.

Okay, so help me out! I'd really like to do something nice for someone who's been so kind, generous, and inspiring to me! Three cheers for [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra!

UPDATE! 12/14/05 - We've almost reached our goal! I won't disclose specific numbers, but I'll say that we're only 2 $10 donations away from being able to buy Kysra this fandangelicious new scanner! Please help!

...Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra, if you see this, all you're allowed to tell me is where I'm going to ship this thing and/or if you'd like a different scanner. You're not allowed to tell me not to buy it, because I'm stubborn and I won't listen! :P

I'll chip in, but I don't want to charge anymore to my card. So if you haven't got 10 people by the time I meet up with you for winter break, just use the gas money u were gonna give me for taking u back for this instead. It's the least I can do, since I've been so caught up in my own world that I haven't done a thing to help the natural disaster victims yet. I'm such a bad girl! But anyways, I'm leaving for home sometime between 12/17 and 12/19. Tell me if these dates sound good to you.

it'll probably be the 18th or 19th and night driving frustrates me so I'm not going to do it anymore. Plus it's more fun when you can actually look out the window and see things... you know how much I love cows!

Okay, I've decided

We'll leave either on the 17th or 18th, depending on when I can get my packing done. I'll give you a call on the 16th to tell you how it goes. btw, the way this trip is looking, it seems to only be me and you so far.
