In regards to the Alias season premiere.

I'm still a bit shell-shocked and upset. I'm not the kind of person that actively seeks out spoilers way in advance of a show I really like, because then I'll be biting my nails and hypothesizing for days and days. But now that the season finale's over and I'm looking over spoiler forums and boards, I'm kind of numb.
They killed off Michael Vaughn, aka André Michot, if that's really his "real" name. And it appears he may have really been some kind of double agent or lone agent after all-- something about an organization called Prophecy 5 that dealt with Vaughn's father and a special code book. But of course, when Vaughn and Sydney get out of their car accident, someone "kidnaps" Vaughn, and so the CIA proclaims Vaughn as a rogue agent or MIA. Sydney helps Vaughn escape detection from a so-called special task force... which turns out was headed by a guy who went MIA/rogue himself 2 years prior to the start of S5.
That same guy ends up being the one responsible for the people that staged the car crash and kidnapped Vaughn in the first place, and it's HIS agent (or someone that works for him) that delivers the killing shots to Vaughn. He does get to a hospital and has surgery, but post-op, his heart fails and he dies. There's a funeral and everything.
I've tried to come up with a million ways that it could be staged or faked or a mistake, and I just can't do it. Even if Vaughn had a clone, a twin brother, or Sydney and Jack had the hospital declare him dead when he really wasn't... god, I just don't see any way through this. And yet, there's hope. There are images of a very alive-and-well Vaughn holding hands and running from something with a very-pregnant Sydney.
The thing is, Jennifer Garner has BEEN very pregnant with her and Ben Affleck's baby girl since they wrapped episode 1 filming on August 17th. She has a stunt double. The pictures were taken by a paparazzi on set. So... they could only show Jen's top half, without revealing her pregnant part, and it could be part of a newly-filmed flashback, dream sequence, or even something that LOOKED like a scene from the season premiere, but it got dressed up, so I missed it.
But again, J.J. Abrams is a hard one to predict. He's outright stated that he has no qualms with Michael Vartan, and I don't think Jennifer Garner does, either. I'm sure every celebrity is well aware of the dangers of dating their co-stars, no matter how cute we "fans" think it is because of the chemistry they seem to have on-set. He's also said "it ain't over till the fat lady sings," and he also said that just because Vaughn's not IN an episode doesn't mean he's not a driving force (well, that could mean he's Sydney's motivation for doing things, and that's just a big giant DUH) or "part of it."
...AUGH! They cannot kill Michael off! Even if he really is André! And this whole thing about Jennifer cutting the season short or not even being in a Season 6, if there is one? Fine, she has every right because she's pregnant, but I hope they don't try to change the series and implement a new star, and then bring in Garner and Vartan (*whimper*) again later on, as big shots or guest stars. You know what other show did that and SUCKED?
POWER RANGERS.
I believe, I believe, I believe... in the power of my OTP! (Syd x Vaughn!)
EDIT: I think JJ oughta take a page from Chris Carter. Let's let everyone THINK that Vaughn's dead. We'll do a funeral, inform any relatives, make with the wake and the black clothing and the horrid-tasting hor d'oeuvre and then later open the casket to reveal a bunch of SANDBAGS.
X-Philers, you better know what I'm talking about.

Date: 2005-09-30 06:51 am (UTC)Some characters are returning for guest spots and bit parts (Nadia, Sark, Irina), but others are not returning at all (Lauren). Sydney may or may not be in every episode this season, due to her pregnancy, and Vaughn's death might not mean his character is gone for good, but that he's taking some time off (a new series on NBC?) or that he's doing more behind-the-scenes work. Note that Garner was the producer for this season premiere. Maybe Vartan will be trying his hand at that? Abrams has said that just because we don't see Vartan doesn't mean he won't be "there."
