Look at your LJ "interests" list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.

(1) astrology - I blame this on my mother. But believe it or not, the stars and their movement actually do have a great influence on your day! Think about it-- the moon's position affects the Earth's tides, and consequently, the lives of people in the navy, any fishermen, marine biologists... and you! Why shouldn't the other planets have a say in your life? Besides, even if you don't subscribe to every facet of astrology (I, for one, don't believe that someone is automatically incompatible with someone because of their sign or birth year), most people are well aware of what traits they share with their sign. I fit the Aries profile pretty well-- but again, you can get specific with descants (what part of the sign's "path" you were born in) and even the minutes and hours of when you were born! It's very fascinating!

(2) california - Well, it's where I'm from. As amazing a state as it is (with practically every climate packed into one space), I can't wait to get OUT of here. True, I've never seen many of the amazing spots-- where California meets Baja, Squaw Valley, Yosemite... but I think there's so much ELSE out there in the world (Europe, Australia, Asia...) that I think one day I'll come back to California with a better appreciation for it. For now, I'm taking the reverse of my mother's path-- she went from New York to SoCal to NorCal; I was born in NorCal and went to SoCal, and am planning to go to New York again someday. I'd like an international journalism career to pan out, but chances are, the HQ of wherever I work will be based in New York. :P

(3) cosplay - I'm far from being good at it, or even frequent enough for people to know who I am, but the idea of dressing up as characters I admire is quite cool. In the past, I've cosplayed as Rena from Star Ocean 2, Anzu from Yu-Gi-Oh, Mierelle Bouquet from NOIR, Sailor Mars from Sailor Moon... and I can't recall any others off the top of my head. :P I'm a pretty shy, unskilled cosplayer. I'd love to do something cool and amazing, but I don't know what I'd do, or how I'd go about it. Heck knows I can't sew. One day when I return to Japan, maybe I'll invest in a cool cosplay costume.

(4) fanfiction - Good god, this one is freakishly obvious. I've loved fanfiction ever since Sailor Moon R stopped airing in the USA, and based off stickers I got from my sister, I theorized a whole story about Sailor Moon S. I didn't even know it was a fanfiction, and foolish me sold it to a friend for 25 cents. :P I thought the first fic I read (about a Sailor Milky Way) was canon, and I expected Sailor Milky Way to show up "any episode now..." I've since become a great deal more discerning, the number of fandoms I read and write for has expanded, and I've written so many fanfics up till now, it's not even funny. I'm pretty bad at updating, though...

(5) full moon o sagashite - I'm not sure who turned me on to this series, but I ended up reading the scanlations fairly often, and now I'm a big fan of Arina Tanemura's artwork. I'm slow about buying the new manga (Shinshi Doumei Cross/The Gentleman's Alliance +) but I like having the original Japanese so I can read it the way it was intended to be. And I hope enough reading will help me learn more Japanese... Anyway, the FMoS story is original, endearing, and amazingly drawn. The anime and manga have totally different endings, though, but the anime has STUNNING music. It's really a tear-jerker of a shoujo series, and there's just no reason not to like it. I've got one fic in progress for it, but I'm  not currently "in" the fandom, so it's on hiatus for now.

(6) image editing - My first Photoshop was probably version 4.0 or 5.5; I can't remember which. But ever since then, I've been a brat about editing images. Some people can do it much better than I can *pokes [livejournal.com profile] rhapsody_dragon* but I can do many things that are still lost to newbies. :) And the more I use Photoshop and Image Ready, the more I learn. I'd like to get back into Illustrator (I used it for a brief stint at the California Colleges of Arts and Crafts), Flash (I heart vectors!) and Fireworks (just because I like the Macromedia Suite) someday... Image editing is so useful in today's world!

(7) love - I should blame this one on Sailor Moon, because even if it is a dorky, girl's-themed, sappy romance anime, it taught me a great deal about life and love. Some of it's cheesy and unrealistic, but the general gist of it is there and true: love CAN conquer anything, love happens in the most unexpected, amazing places, and love goes beyond boy and girl-- it extends to mother and child, other family members, friends, team mates, and companions. And why shouldn't it? It's an amazing thing.

(8) mythology - I'm currently taking a mythology course right now... and I'd like to think I'm well-prepared for it. I've loved reading stories ever since I was a kid, and as a big fantasizer, fairy tales and myths were a big part of that. I went through the Petaluma Library's section of mythology faster than most kids do in their entire adolescence, and I loved it. True, as an older person I have a better understanding of the "real" mythology (and how many things are cut out or edited for kids' eyes), but that doesn't change how fascinating mythology is. It inspires so much, and is the foundation for practically all storytelling in our modern world. You have to respect that.

(9) photoshop - I explained this in #6, really, but why Photoshop over Paint Shop Pro? Simply put, there's a REASON why you pay more for Photoshop. It's extremely versatile; you can do pretty much ANYTHING, and it's amazingly easy to learn! Yet there's always new tricks and tips to gain just from opening up a fresh canvas and clicking at random. The downside is that it really does work best on its own paging file (separate, partitioned drive), and once you've installed it and made several files, it's hard to move OVER to that type of filing. Oh well, knowledge best learned for my laptop!

(10) role playing - I never considered myself very good at role-playing when I did it online (at first), but everyone who ever had a childhood probably knows how to do it. And if you do end up doing it online, it's fun because you don't know what to expect from anyone else (the other characters). I had a fantastic time with [livejournal.com profile] nekokilala, [livejournal.com profile] rhapsody_dragon, and [livejournal.com profile] lovehiei13 (and probably others I'm forgetting-- alas!) at the duelmonsters_rpg... I played Anzu, and the evilness of my ideas certainly showed in the story. I'd love to turn that RPG arc into a fanfic one day... I'm a bit of a stickler for characterization, but otherwise, I'm open to almost anything. The downside, of course, is that a lot of time is required for something that is merely supposed to be "fun."

(11) sailor star fighter - Only the most kick-ass senshi since Sailor Mars! I adore Star Fighter, if not for her personality, then for her duality as Seiya, and the absolute wangsty romance between hir (zOMG politically correct pronoun of doom!) and Usagi.

(12) sleepovers - I used to love having these and going to these when I was younger, even if there weren't really that many. The whole idea of just having a night with your friends, pigging out, watching movies, and doing whatever always sounded fun. Then again, maybe I can blame American Girl magazine for making me come up with so many ideas, I wanted to have sleepovers all the time. Now, the word has a very different meaning for me... ^_~

(13) swords - If I had to pick one weapon to wield, a sword would be it (other options: crossbow, bow and arrow, sais). Why? It's the epitome of strength and sophistication. There are so many varieties, but in every culture, the warrior class has them. They can be big, clunky, heavy, and jeweled, or light and simple. You can do a lot of damage or very little... think Rurouni Kenshin, with a double-edged sword, or a reverse-edge blade. They are the traditional medium of pain, power, control, and so much more. I also happen to think I look quite hot posing with one. :P

(14) wild act - this manga by Rie Takada has a funny and yet somehow sophisticated plotline-- despite the squirrel with a leaky bladder, the thief with unknown parentage, and the rising star who looks strangely like a James Dean-wannabe who died many years ago... It's got sex, drama, action, romance, angst-- EVERYTHING. And it's only 10 volumes long! :D This manga-ka also did another title released by Viz, but they won't mention that she also did Wild Act, because Wild Act was serialized by Tokyopop! So I won't mention THEIR title!

(15) yu-gi-oh - zOMG do you even have to ask!? I don't know when or why I got into Yu-Gi-Oh (I seem to have an affinity for getting into series right near the season finale... with Yu-Gi-Oh, I think it was the Kaiba vs. Yugi atop the Duelist Kingdom tower @ Pegasus Castle; with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it was Becoming, Part 2... you get my drift?) but I've been "in" the fandom since 2003. My first true foray into Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction was "The Joke's On You," which was spawned by my accidental (hah) reading of a hentai Seto x Anzu doujinshi, and the one bad joke Kaiba told turning into the hilarious, dirty plot that is TJOY. TJOY, in turn, inspired What Doesn't Kill You (wdky), and I'm still working on that fic... and its sequel, Circle of Seven. I've written more fics for the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom in the past 2 years than I have probably during my entire 10-year tenure as a Sailor Moon fan. ^^;; Funny how a shonen show can appeal to me so much, especially a pairing with absolutely no canon backing...

And that, as they say, is that.

What? A real entry? Sorry, no time. I had so much homework to do, and I still have reading to do for WRPII, Mythology (maybe, Adams likes to go off topic sometimes...) and Visual Communications. Good thing I have about an hour between Mythology and Visual Communications, though I would like to think of something OTHER than a sandwich to get for lunch somewhere on campus during that time... Bad thing that my backpack's going to be so damn heavy. I need a locker. >_> And I think I need $5 for the WRPII lab fee. Blah.

So tired...
