Hm, for lack of any creativity re: subject lines, I'm simply using the title of the song I'm currently listening to, "Teardrops" by Massive Attack and Portishead.

What is of the up?
1 - So Mom got an MRI a couple of days ago, but she didn't call me back to tell me the results... so paranoid, I called her at work today. She'd just gone on her lunch break, and called me back while it was busy at Jamba... so I was standing there at the dairy case, with vibrating pants. ^^; I finally called her back, left another message... and she finally called back and we talked. She hasn't gotten her results back yet, so I don't know whether to worry or not.

2 - I DID make the reservations for Mom and I to get facials at the Kabuki Springs and Spa around 2pm on 7/20, Michelle's Memorial day. I figure the two of us can hike to Land's End (my personal tradition) and have a picnic, then relax in the communal baths (it's girls-only day) and get facials. It's not too expensive, either-- about $60 each.

3 - WDKY17 is coming along great... but darn, New Year's is a pain holiday to write! They do it so much differently in Asia than they do in the States and elsewhere, so I'm not sure how to write it (or how MUCH of it to write) before it becomes unnecessary or just plain WRONG.

4 - On the bright side though, I got my super-cheap, still-in-its-original-packaging Yu-Gi-Oh Uncut Vol. 2, which is the start of Duelist Kingdom. This means I can get inspired for Death and Absolution-- which I cut off at the start of Duelist Kingdom, because I didn't remember enough of it to work with. Now I OWN it! This might mean a few more chapters will see the light of day sooner, rather than later.

5 - *cues the chorus music* HALLELUJIAH! I have finally synchronized my FFnet account to have ALL of my fics to date-- unless I stupidly forgot to put them in my Memories... but I don't think I have as of late. Anyway, there's a grand total of 82 fics there, with about... er, maybe 12 of them just added today? Most of them are oneshots that were LJ exclusives; if you didn't catch them here, read them there, and be sure to review! Includes challengefics, anniversary fics, and those odd bouts of inspiration! Anyway, I bet you I pWN the FFnet/Yu-Gi-Oh page. No, no I don't. *sniff* Geez, who knew so many people from "my" fandom updated in the past few hours? I was on a veritable SPREE (like Mamono said). Grr.

6 - For the fic "You Don't Know Me" (the letter written to Seto Kaiba about work vs. family) I got the following review from "Travelling Stranger," an anonymous reviewer:

Actually, since utter devotion to work is a very Japanese viewpoint, I just don't see the problem.  If anything, Seto should chew her out for poking her nose into his private life in any manner at all.  It comes off as very conceited and "I know so much better than you".

It's well written, though, and I could see it being from the viewpoint of an American who married a Japanese person without knowing all the details and habits of those of that culture.

Not bad.  But it could be better.

Okay, I can understand that-- and I do appreciate concrit. But despite the complete sentences and lack of l33t-speak, this review is still pretty vague. How can I make it better, other than clarifying that Mrs. Kindaichi is either a foreigner, or a very dedicated, worrisome mother (the latter having been my intention)? Frankly I'm well aware of the Japanese idealism about work and devotion to a company-- however, the idea was that someone from a very different background from Seto's own could point something out to him-- someone who is what Kaiba never had-- a mother. On top of that, Seto's a rare case for the typical working man in Japan-- he's young, and though he hasn't quite immersed himself in work, he's getting there-- and might be leaving the best years of Mokuba's life (and his own!) behind-- that's the message Mrs. Kindaichi wanted to get across... and what I hoped came across in the fic. Hmm...

Ugh, looks like I have a defective Yu-Gi-Oh Uncut Vol. 2. It kinda skipped earlier in the episode (after an Eye Catch), and then when Yuugi attacked Haga's Cocoon of Evolution with Gaia, there was Japanese dialogue, but no subtitles-- and I made sure the subtitles were for the Japanese track, not the dub track. Grr! I think I just emailed 4kids (I can't access the email under "Contact Us" at the 4kids website... can someone tell me what it is? Is that a Firefox thing, or a Thunderbird thing-- it opens up Thunderbird, but the email address doesn't show up!) about it, but who knows WHAT they'll say.
