azurite: (stophoest - Throw rocks at boys)
[personal profile] azurite
It's time for the requisite HARRY POTTER post. Yes, you heard me. This post is all [livejournal.com profile] schmollieollie and [livejournal.com profile] katiat325's fault, because with the way they were whispering and giggling in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," I wanted to know why- they said I had to read the books. Turned out my Mom had books 1-4, so I read them-- in about a week and a half. ALL FOUR OF THEM. What an adventure! Then, Stephanie was kind enough to give me "Order of the Phoenix" as a going-away present just before I moved down here to Northridge.

Now, a year later, "The Half-Blood Prince" is coming out, and I'm one of the many eager fans who's preordered and is waiting for something to actually tide me over and give me a good long read (I finished Book 2 and 3 of "The Mediator" this morning). But first-- a few questions...

(1) HEY, CANADIAN HP FANS! What's up with the "adult edition" of Harry Potter, anyway?
On FictionAlley.org, they have a listing of all the books released in the respective countries/areas-- the U.S. has got the spooky green art by Mary GrandPré... but the Deluxe Edition has DIFFERENT art by MGP, and the Canadian version has the same art as the U.K. -- with an "adult" edition and a "youth" edition! What's going on, here?

(2) Think I oughta dress up?
I figure I might actually have some fun and go to the Midnight Magic Party at my local Borders on Jul. 15th at 9:00-- I work close enough to the mall to be able to. Not that I have a scarf or anything else... But every time I see the "Chamber of Secrets," I notice an uncanny resemblance between myself and Moaning Myrtle. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? (I happen to like Hermione a lot more, but my hair couldn't be bushy if I tried.)

(3) Aren't there still some things that need clarifying?
Of course, I plan on re-reading all the books while I'm in San Francisco (this will be after I've re-read OotP and have tHBP already in hand), but I want to make sure I'm not missing out on any big important facts. So, everyone: What are 3 things that every Harry Potter fan absolutely MUST know by now-- things that are undisputed facts, but not trivial things/things that everyone knows no matter what, like Hermione has bushy hair, Scabbers = Peter Pettigrew, and Hogwarts just can't seem to find a reliable DADA teacher? WHAT ELSE? (The little, harder-to-deduce facts, if you please-- especially anything re: Voldemort)

And now for something completely different...

Mamono and I tried to duel today, but a thunderstorm (!?) cut her short. But for those interested (and Mamono, if you're a peeping Duelist, like Kaiba-boy of Chapter 17/WDKY is) you can check out my decks:

A semi-Mai deck: http://www.yugioh-deck.com/ViewDeck.php?deckid=1067076909
A vaguely-Kaiba deck: http://www.yugioh-deck.com/ViewDeck.php?deckid=1173124046
A Fairy-deck: http://www.yugioh-deck.com/ViewDeck.php?deckid=1741789476 (Formerly my Anzu cosplay deck, but with a spruce of Isis mixed in)

I also have an Egypt-themed deck in the works, though that would really kick butt if I had cards from Malik's Structure Deck.

Now if I bothered to type in all my cards (and yes, I mean ALL of them) I wonder if I could try and figure out how to assemble a deck from the mess I have. The catch is, I don't think I have any new cards beyond, er, well... uh, let's look at all the releases, shall we?

And finally, cards from the hit anime/movie series...

The Lost Millennium
Two of Yugi's most powerful Spell Cards, "Brain Control" and "Card of Sanctity" can be found in this booster. This is also the first place to see cards from the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! GX animated series! In this next generation of Yu-Gi-Oh! you will see all the "Elemental Heroes" including "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman". The "Ancient Gear Golem" and "Winged Kuriboh" also appear in this new series.

Flaming Eternity
"Gearfried the Swordmaster" and "Release Restraint" are favorites of Joey, and "Silent Swordsman LV5" is one of Yugi's trusted monsters.

Dark Beginning 1
This is the perfect pack to buy when looking for your favorite cards from the animated series! "Dark Magician", "Big Shield Gardna", "Buster Blader", "Dark Sage", "Celtic Guardian", "Summoned Skull", "Gaia the Fierce Knight", "Exodia the Forbidden One", all of Yugi's classic monsters are here. Joey's army of favorite monsters is here as well: "Jinzo", "Red-Eyes B. Dragon", "Goblin Attack Force", "Gearfried the Iron Knight", "The Fiend Megacyber", and "Flame Swordsman". Pegasus's Toon Cards, like "Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon" and "Toon World" and his other monsters "Relinquished" and "Thousand-Eyes Restrict" can go against Marik's "Revival Jam" and "Humanoid Worm Drake". Look for Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" or Mai's "Harpie Lady Sisters", and that's just the Monsters. Look for Yugi and Joey's Spell and Trap Cards like "Pot of Greed", "Lightning Blade", "Card Destruction", and "Exchange".

Rise of Destiny
"Nightmare Penguin" and "Perfect Machine King" were used by members of the Big Five in the virtual world. The "Harpie Ladies" are Mai's favorite monsters and have won her many duels. "Silent Swordsman LV3" is also one of Yugi's monsters.

Soul of the Duelist
Pegasus trapped Yugi's monsters with "Gorgon's Eye", and "Inferno Fire Blast" is the signature attack of Joey's "Red-Eyes B. Dragon".

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie - Exclusive Pack
All 8 cards of the Exclusive Pack are used by Anubis or Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh! the Movie!

Ancient Sanctuary
Kaiba often uses "Enemy Controller" to turn the tables on his opponents. Espa Roba used "Amplifier" to power-up his "Jinzo" before losing it to Joey. The signature attacks of Yugi and Kaiba's favorite monsters are also in this booster, "Dark Magic Attack" and "Burst Stream of Destruction".

Invasion of Chaos
"Drillago", "Bowganian", "Granadora" and "Lekunga" are all mighty monsters wielded by Marik. "Strike Ninja" was Duke Devlin's Deckmaster in the virtual world. Weevil Underwood loves to use "Skull-Mark Ladybug" and "Pinch Hopper" in his Insect Deck and Rex Raptor uses "Balloon Lizard", "Black Tyranno", and "Ultra Evolution Pill" in his Dinosaur Deck. "Dimension Fusion" and "Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End" are both parts of Kaiba's arsenal, and "Dark Magician of Chaos" is a retrained version of one of Yugi's most powerful monsters.

Dark Crisis
Kaiba uses "Vampire Lord", "Different Dimension Dragon" and "Des Feral Imp" in his Duels, while his father, Gozaboro (they spelled this wrong on the website... ow!) Kaiba, tried to defeat him with "Exodia Necross". "Guardian Grarl", "Guardian Kay'est", and "Guardian Elma" are Raphael's main monsters, and he arms them with the Equip Spell Cards, "Gravity Axe – Grarl", "Rod of Silence – Kay'est", and "Butterfly Dagger Elma". "Shinato, King of a Higher Plane" was Noah's Deckmaster in the virtual world, and his minions, the Big Five, summoned "Berserk Dragon". Yugi and Joey defeated it using "Dark Flare Knight" and "Mirage Knight". "Cost Down" has been utilized by both Kaiba and Pegasus, while the Fairy-Type monsters, "Kelbek", "Zolga", and "Agido" are used by Marik's sister, Ishizu, who also played "Blast Held by a Tribute". Odion used "Judgment of Anubis" when he was impersonating Marik during his duel against Joey.

Magician's Force
This booster is full of Yugi's monsters, including "Dark Magician Girl", "Breaker the Magical Warrior", "Skilled Dark Magician", and "Dark Paladin". It also has two of his favorite Spell Cards, "Double Spell" and "Diffusion Wave-Motion". You can also find many of Kaiba's monsters, such as "Pitch-Dark Dragon", "Paladin of White Dragon", plus "X-Head Cannon", "Y-Dragon Head", and "Z-Metal Tank" which can combine to create "XYZ-Dragon Cannon". Kaiba's also used the power of the Spell Cards "Kaiser Coliseum" and "Dark Core". Mai's woman warriors, "Amazoness Swords Woman" and "Amazoness Fighter" are in this booster, along with the Trap Cards "Dramatic Rescue" and "Amazoness Archers".

Pharaonic Guardian
"Sasuke Samurai" and "Question" are both cards that Joey uses, and Marik plays with "Lava Golem", "Nightmare Wheel", "Helpoemer" and "Newdoria". Kaiba unleashes the Trap Card "Ring of Destruction" on Lumis and Umbra. Yugi's Grandpa uses "Wandering Mummy", "Mirage of Nightmare", and "Ordeal of a Traveler", and Rebecca plays with "Rope of Life".

Legacy of Darkness
Noah commands many of the Spirit Monsters, including "Yata-Garasu", "Yamata Dragon", "Asura Priest" and "Inaba White Rabbit". "Super Roboyarou" is Tristan's Deckmaster in the virtual world. Joey has a close encounter with "Injection Fairy Lily" in Yu-Gi-Oh! the Movie. One of Bakura's mightiest monsters is "Dark Ruler Ha Des", and Gurimo, the first of Dartz's assistants that Yugi duels, uses "Marauding Captain" and "Warrior Dai Grepher". Kaiba plays with many Dragon-Type monsters from this booster, including "Spear Dragon", "Spirit Ryu", "Cave Dragon", and the Trap Cards "Dragon's Rage" and "Last Turn". Rex Raptor also Summons the powerful "Tyrant Dragon" in a duel against Joey.

What sucks is that I *REALLY* want to go to the Cybernetic Revolution Sneak Preview (Embodiment of Apophis!!!! Okay, I just think the name/picture are cool; they blurred out the text on the sample card at yugioh-card.com) but the nearest one is 55 miles away. -_- I need a car dammit, and I need to learn to drive! Just so I can be the biggest (girl) geek at one of these events-- but who cares!? I want my free card!

:O You know what I just found out? Mai's signature cards in the Orichalchos arc-- Harpie's Lady Phoenix Formation and Sparrow Formation... I knew one of them was supposed to be Suzaku Formation, but I thought the other one was supposed to be Seiryuu Formation (it looked like a dragon to me, was blue, and would make sense if Suzaku was the other one...) but it turns out it's Hou'ou, which means Phoenix in Japanese, but refers to the Chinese MALE mythical phoenix, while apparently Suzaku is female...!? That can't be right, because according to the kanji compound, the characters in Hou'ou refer to BOTH the male and female phoenix birds, respectively.
