Stop using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Just do yourself and your computer (and your sanity, if you value it that much) a favor, and switch to Mozilla Firefox. And while you're at it, if you use a client to download email, use Mozilla's Thunderbird. It imports everything from your client, including address books, message, and your folder tree.
Admittedly, IE is supposed to be the top of the line with all the support it's had before any other browsers, but the age of IE has died. First it was Microsoft, then people started cracking on it, bit by bit-- Macrohard, Micro$hit, Micro$haft... take your pick. The company now deserves whatever nicknames it gets. Its security sucks, and IE7 has no plans to incorporate the features that make Firefox a bazillion times better. Think things like
* customized browser (skins)
* tabs for easier browsing
* built-in music player (controls whatever media player you use in a small space)
* built-in ad-blocker
* google toolbar
And tons more... like the fact that it's open source, and it's always being refined and added to! Not like MS's updates that are even slower than my FIC updates (and that's saying something). SO JUST DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.
Make the switch. (Oh, and by the way, AO-HELL *cough* is just a glamorized version of IE. Don't be fooled by the commercials. It's the same friggin' code.)
In other news...
(1) I'm seriously penny-pinching here. I hate to ask for money, so in lieu of that, I have some goodies to sell:
* Yu-Gi-Oh: Reshef of Destruction (English) for GameBoy Advance. Never played, but the promo cards are NOT included. $30(?)
* Manga? Ask me what I have and if I have what you want, I'll sell it to you, most likely.
* Web-services/editing-services - I love doing this for people for free, but if you want to pay me, I'll love you even more.
(2) So I got my eye exam today and it looks like my eye infection is totally gone, but the vision in my left eye is worse than it was in 1999 (when I got these titanium glasses I have now). So I'm looking into investing in a new pair, since contact lenses have proved rather moot for me. I don't have the time or energy to put them in every day, and even if I did, there's just too much risk involved. So what if my vision slowly deteriorates over time? I think I look cute with glasses.
Out of the whole Kaiser optometry department, I found about 5 pairs I liked, and that's averaging $129 to $159 for just the frames. My mom's coverage will pay for about $125, and that's NOT with the lenses or the transitional fading that I want (clip-ons are a pain in the neck). I figure the total cost will be around $310-$320, which is cheaper than these LensCrafter ones, but then again, these HAVE lasted me 5 years. Baba even says she'll help me pay for the glasses when I want them (yay!) so all I have to do is go back (make sure they know about my coverage from Mom, however that works) and pick a pair out! I want a new look for my birthday, anyhow... ^_^
(3) Dad was going to come up this weekend and help fix the house, but six days of nonstop rain (according to the weathermen, who I NEVER trust anyway) would make for a dangerous trip... and since he hasn't even left yet, that means no dad. I'm kind of bummed out! ;_;
(4) I was trying to make the official WDKY and CO7 cards today, but CO7 had me stumped-- I just don't have the pictures for it. So I've decided to make an "Exclusive Pack" set, available only... to a certain audience, but I'm not sure who just yet. I'll make it totally public anyway, same as Konami does (aren't I sneaky?). Here's how it'll work:
There is a tentative total of 11 cards. They will all look similar, but feature different images and text that are hints to WDKY's sequel, "Circle of Seven," and act as a puzzle in their own right. Ever seen those trading cards where you have to get more to complete the picture? It's sort of like that. No, I won't tell you who I'm putting on there, what the cards will be called or look like, or when they'll be available. I have to tinker with images and text and filters and... well, you just gotta be patient. :) But feel free to pester me, it doubles as motivation. Plus nice people might get sneak peeks.
(5) QuickEdit has cut out the following of anything if it precedes/follows double-quote marks:
- dashes (--)
- question marks (?)
- exclamation points (!)
- commas (,)
If anyone notices anything else buggy with QuickEdit when they use it, lemme know-- I don't want to be the only one toiling away there editing something that never should have needed editing! I have finished editing WDKY15 though, so if it still appears buggy to you, first refresh, and if that doesn't work, let me know where the errors are.
Even more things to be nitpicky about:
* McAfee screwing up Net access on the visitor account
* I can't reply to LJ replies using Outlook Express OR Thunderbird (Mozilla's Email client) because... ?! I don't know. I'm still trying to figure that out.
* The minute I get hungry, whatever I want to eat suddenly starts looking gross and unappealing.
* It's raining. WHY THE FRIG IS IT RAINING!?
* I forgot to save the template for the Effect Monster card. Phooey.
* I can't convert Mac *.app files to PC *.exes (or can I?)
* I'm too fresh to try and animate this (my first ever Yu-Gi-Oh, Unhinged card - my parody set). But it'd be funny if I did, huh?
* I have to hand-do all my message filters for Thunderbird. ;_; The only downside, I swear.
...I feel like I'm forgetting something again. I hate that feeling. What can I do to increase my memory?
And will someone please explain why The Lion King's "Be Prepared" came into my head early this afternoon, remained until around 6pm this evening, and had me feeling about as evil as Tim Curry in CLUE or maybe Rocky Horror? *shudder twitch grin sing*

Hey!
Date: 2005-02-18 07:21 am (UTC)Besides, the real big problems with IE and XP came around SP2, which came out when, late last year? Not that long ago at all. =P

Date: 2005-02-18 02:30 pm (UTC)I only keep IE around for two reasons:
1) I use XP. That makes it incredibly difficult to nullify MS IE.
2) Firefox is so great that it shows code I didn't even know I had. So when I look at my lj in Firefox, it looks all crappy and poorly designed (which it is). IE hides all those flaws by skipping code. So I use it to access this page, and this page only.
Go Zilla!
Oh, and there's nothing wrong with feeling a little Frank-n-Furtish sometimes.

Hello and welcome to last year. (x2)
Firefox sucks, I never liked Netscape, and Mozilla/Firebird/Firefox is exactly that plus a few extras features. Avant Browser has all the pros of both IE and Firefox: tab browsing, good interface, google toolbar w/ pop-up blocker, integrated pop-up + ad blocker, disable anything from images, to flash, to java, to sound. And it has few of the cons of either.
Oh, the thing that really had me with AB is that it supports the damn scroll button, which Firefox doesn't.
Oh, and what manga do you have? And will you ship it up north?
