Not my Mai!

What have they done to my Mai's voice? It's a totally different actress who's trying too hard; I can tell. And this whole Alister thing (not to mention his whack Aussie accent, though I love it, is weird for his character) pisses me off. (Or am I just confused? Is it Alister, or is it Varon --who they're calling Valon? Isn't the redhead Alister? Aka The Duelist Formerly Known as Amelda?)

I've missed the following eps, too: Deja Duel (Parts 1 and 2), plus An Unexpected Enemy. But at least now I know, so I can catch them on reruns or downloaded offline. Er, online? Online to offline? Whatever. On top of this, what's with this so-called "Sparrow" formation? It's SUZAKU, dammit! And the "Phoenix" formation, last time I checked, was the SEIRYUU formation! -_- I hate it when they change the names like that. Suzaku would have worked with Phoenix, and Seiryuu could have been Dragon. BUT NOOOOOO...

Ooh, and I'm also reorganizing my memories so it's easier to find LJ-fics, my challenges, and other people's challenges... along with everything else under the sun. I'm tempted to make some challenges that would seriously alter the continuity of the story. That is, REAL "ARs."


In today's episode "My Freaky Valentine," (episode 152) Joey faced dark!Mai in a duel where Mai, powered by the Seal of Orichalcos, seriously has the upper hand. She's got a new deck, a new style, a new duel disk, and a new attitude-- so how can Joey possibly win? At 200 Life Points (and Mai still at 4000), there doesn't seem to be much hope. He can fight his hardest and defeat Mai-- and have HER lose her soul, or LOSE to her... and maybe save her. So he'll forfeit.

At least, he tries to, before Yugi interrupts him. But what if Yugi didn't stop Joey in time, and the moment Joey said "I quit" and surrendered the duel (by placing his hand on his deck in the Duel Disk), he DID forfeit-- the duel, AND his soul?

Write me some outcomes-- either short one-shots, drabbles, vignettes, doubleshots... whatever floats your boat. Link to them in the comments, and if you write these responses in your own LJ or whatever, please make sure to LJ cut them behind so the challenge isn't spoiled for others. Standard policy, see?

I don't like Mai's voice either. I don't think it's right for her. I did like when she called Joey "schweetheart," though, not because I'm a Polarshipper (actually, I'm a diehard anti-Polarshipper), but because calling someone "schweetheart" is always cool, especially sarcastically.

Or maybe I'm odd. Anyway.

The redhead is Allister/Amelda. I don't like "Allister's" accent or name. I do like Varon's accent, though, because it sounds more British than Australian reminds me slightly of Alex/Malcolm McDowell from "A Clockwork Orange." Or maybe it's just the way that Varon/Valon walks. Too bad he's dressed all wrong.

No polarshipping? *wails* I like them... but her new voice just throws me off. Re: the clothing... well, that's pretty much Japanese source, save for the added straps and erased bustier on Mai.

On the official YGO site, Amelda's renamed 'Alister' -- not even the "standard" spelling which I've seen "Alastair" or "AListair."

When I first saw Varon, I immediately thought he was supposed to be some sort of twisted Yugi clone, with armor. o_O

And the one thing I do like about new!Mai is her lines-- that is, the scriptwritten dub lines. Sometimes those guys can be funny. Scary, ne?

I like Jounouchi and Mai separately, I just can't "see" them together. In part because the romantic feelings seem too one-sided (it's obvious he's got a crush on her...but I don't get the impression she sees him as anything more than a friend) and in part because their personalities seem to clash -- not so severely they don't make good friends, but enough that they probably wouldn't work out as a couple. But of course, that's just me and my warped perception of the characters, so...*shrug* ^_^;;

Oh, I know the clothes are the Japanese version's doing...and I don't wholly dislike them. I just think Varon's dressed wrong TO BE ALEX. I wish he'd at least wear fake eyelashes on one eye. ;D

Alister. Huh. I'll remember that. Alister. I must say I like "Amelda" better. Speaking of him: In Kaiba's flashback today, it shows him saying, "There's no such card!" But what he actually said in the Amelda vs. Kaiba duel was, "You don't have that card!" Odd little plothole-thing, and I need a life.

*nodnod* They can be. I think Mai would actually sound more intelligent than in the past; well, no, she DOES sound more intelligent than in the past, it's just that her voice is so strange, and she seems to have an odd little accent now.

Just *why* do they change voice actresses/actors like that, anyway? Did the actress for Mai really not want to continue? o_O (that btw, is rare. Look at Kaiba-- he's doing Brock's voice for Pokemon, too, and HOW many seasons has that been running?)

Hm... good question! I was thinking that maybe the voice actress for Mai retired or something. But hopefully she's going to be taking over again, I don't really like the accent that Mai has right now. It reminds me of my 7th grade Latin teacher! Scary *shudders* 0__0 Kaiba was doing Brock's voice for Pokemon? I never knew that @_@ . And I think it's been running for...6 seasons?

Haha, I don't think VAs follow the age-retirement rule. Often they just... quit. Which sucks. But yes, Brock = Kaiba and back again. It's rather frightening, putting say, Brock's unadultered exclamations of love for Nurse Joy/Officer Jenny into Kaiba's mouth and still have them work...

And Bush won! *groans* I'm not a Republican so I was really hoping that Kerry would win. However, he turned him back on his voters! Oh well, hopefully the next four years won't break this country into pieces. Because I have a VERY bad feeling about this election's result...
