Back from Scott's... ^_^ I feel like I'm smiling fakely when I do smile, which... well, right now, I just don't have the strength for it. I'm being lazy in CAD class; I finished all the drawings, and I can always get the rest done. Ms. Lavassani just... doesn't have a teaching method that appeals to me. She's hard to understand at times. *shrug* I wish Dad were teaching me this stuff-- he's a cool teacher, I'm sure of it.

So yesterday after class I rushed home to bake the Chocolate Chip II cookies for the guys (including Scott's roommates, Derek and Brett), and Scott said he'd show up around 2:15, as he was studying. He has at least two days a week when he just studies-- no class. Photo lab takes up most of his time, and he told me he spent over four hours trying to do one print. He's so dedicated, but I keep thinking he'll stress. Then again, it's Scott. He doesn't stress. He's so... inhuman at times.

Well, I got the cookies done, and around 2:30 Scott showed up; the g'rents left to go fix a busted tire in the car, and they still hadn't returned. But they knew my plans for going to Scott's (obviously, there was that whole Baba + Mer's "virtue" thing), so I just left a note and went. Well, the plan was to wait for the guys to come home and we'd make dinner, so after my physical exam (I had to wear one of those backless robes that was about five sizes too big) and picking up my prescription ($26 more than I thought; stupid confusing Prescription solutions!) we headed back to the library. Thankfully the Periodical Reserve had the LA Times from the 17th, so I could work on my essay/media notebook for Journalism that's due tomorrow. It was actually easier than I thought, and I only have a bit more clarification and such to go before it's done. I'm only worried about being able to print it, as WordPerfect has been somewhat of a bitch on my comp as of late.

By 7, it was dark and warm outside, plus Scott was exhausted... we headed to Hollywood to pick up some groceries at Trader Joe's and Ralph's, but along the way... I don't even remember why, but I just got really sad. I had all these traitorous thoughts in my head, nasty "what ifs" wondering why Scott was even with me, why he cared, blah blah... I hate being self-loathing and self-doubting; it doesn't feel like "me." He didn't even notice. I couldn't say any of that stuff... I hate being weak, and revealing weakness. I perked up a bit after we got to the apartment; the guys were nice to me, and they even remembered my name! Scott and I worked on dinner, though Scott, cooking genius that he is (his mom's a chef) did most of the work. Dinner, btw, was wheat fettucini with marinara and sauteed mushrooms, with marinated turkey patty mixed on. Plus handmade garlic bread on pain compote, and my favorite carbonated juice drink-- wild berry Juice Squeeze. ^_^ When everyone was finished (and I should mention, two British guys, neighbors of the roomies, came over. They greeted me with a kiss on the cheek, which oddly made me feel insanely special!) I brought out the cookies-- by Goddess, I think they were impressed. I was impressed with myself-- it's been a while since I've baked, I've NEVER done so at Baba's, I had limited supplies of an unfamiliar nature, AND they still turned out great. ^_^ I guess I actually have *rights* to brag now...

We watched some of the PS2 Rocky Game (why is there a Rocky Statue, huh?) and then moved onto Empire Strikes Back.

Somehow, the hype feels undeserved. I was expecting the classic, kick-ass Star Wars I saw in theaters, but I got this remastered, redone thing. Above all else, I noticed (and hated) the re-done music, especially from the end of Return of the Jedi (which we watched snippets of, since it was the most butchered of them all). To me, music can make or break the movie, and I really think that music is what 'made' Star Wars. At least, you should be able to change the audio tracks to the original... I mean come on, it was the uber-cool EWOK SONG!!

Oh, and the original "human" Anakin got shafted in JEDI; they replaced him with an "older" Hayden Christensen, aka Vaderkins by Episode III. He looked like he had a mullet. -_- Don't get me wrong, Hayden makes a cool Anakin and all, but the whole idea with Luke seeing his father restored to "how he was" wouldn't matter whether he was familiar or not; Luke never knew his father as a human. He saw his face really messed up by bionic parts, sure, but that was it. so in ghosty-form, Vaderkins has been "upgraded" to a hale and healthy looking Hayden! @_o I liked the old guy-- it made more sense. It was Anakin, had he NOT taken the Dark Side path, and lived to the age that he died at in JEDI. Call me confusing or whatever, but... *shrug* Hayden just doesn't do it for an "older Anakin" for me.

Back to EMPIRE. Okay one, there were added lines and scenes. Not always a bad thing, but the deal with the Emperor and his floating head? Wasn't it his full body last time? And didn't they make it vague, up until that last part in Empire, that Luke and Vader were related? Having the Emperor say it just sort of ruined the whole thing for me, all over again. Same goes with some of the stuff that Yoda said.

And speaking of which, I love Alec Guiness, but to a degree, I agree with the "if you use Hayden, use Ewan" thought process. One old guy deserves another, one young guy deserves another. That sounded wrong, but you know what I mean.

Other random things that bothered me:
(1) Luke loses his hand: did the light saber make a clean cut AND cauterize the wound? Why wasn't there more OMG!painANGSTbloood!!! going on?
(2) why do they touch on plot points that never get covered later on? For example, Leia and the Force, Leia KNOWING she's Luke's sister, Leia as a potential weapon for the Dark Side... the fact that the Emperor's NAME is never mentioned, but by episode I, it's not a big deal that the connection is made between Chancellor Palpatine and The Big Bad Wrinkle?
(3) other stuff I've forgotten.

head hurts. wanna eat lunch, go to the getty with Scott, and go home. *sigh* More wangst later.

I'm working from memory here BUT:

1. I think it did cauterize the wound. If memory serves, there is smoke and the sound of sizzling flesh when the cut occurs. I expect the light saber is pure energy which would imply heat . . . . plus, it certainly burns Anakin in Episode II ^_^

2. I believe Lucas has admitted that Leia being Luke's sister was thrown in at the last minute which might explain the lack of plot development on that score. Also, she's very untrained in the Force. Hell, Luke didn't even realize he had any power until he started training. She doesn't really KNOW she's Luke's sister until after she's had it confirmed, after she's gotten close to him and found that emotional connection. Notice how she emphasizes that her most clear memories of her mother are feelings.

As for Leia being a potential weapon -- Darth Vader does outrightly say that if things don't work out with Luke, he's gonna go after Leia, and I think a few novels and comic books have explored the Leia being converted possibility.

About the Emporer/Palpatine connection. This is just me being overanalyzing, but I think it's an undercurrent in all the movies that the Dark Side doesn't only change your behavior, it changes your entire identity. Anakin ceases to be Anakin when he turns, that part of his persona is ultimately killed to give birth to Darth Vader. The same can be said for Palpatine. Palpatine dies when the Emporer triumphs. They effectively erase their own existences, and become no longer worthy of their given names because they've turned their backs on everything good and noble to embrace a fixation with power. That's why I get the idea that Yoda - and perhaps to a lesser extent, Obi Won - sort of sees Darth Vader . . . and perhaps even the Emporer as tragedies rather than hating them, and why they work so damn hard to train Luke in a way to prevent him from turning too. At least, that's MY interpretation.
