According to Erin, when graphic designing, my Elusive XP Theme screws up how I see colors. And I guess she's right, so I booked it to XPTheme and grabbed myself a bunch of Mac-based themes. Yes, Mer got OSX themes. Bad Mer. Mer hates Macs, in case you didn't know. But I love the OSX theme, because it's so... bubbly and bright!
ANYWAY. BIG NEWS! The Yu-Gi-Oh Anime is slated to end soon. I'm sure most of you knew that, what with the fact that they're doing the Pharaoh's Memory arc and all, and it sort of corresponds to the manga, that recently finished with Volume 38. I'm not entirely sure how they're going to pull it off, since Atemu was NOT supposed to walk away from his duel with Seto, but in the anime, WALK he did. Plus, Kaiba was there, so... X_X Well, if they do resolve it soon, it'll sure have some interesting plot twists.
Yu-Gi-Oh R is the "new" manga by a different artist (not Kazuki Takahashi) that follows the GBA "Reshef of Destruction" storyline, minus Pegasus being alive or whatever. (Speaking of Pegs, a Konami description said that he was led away in the end of the DK Arc in a straitjacket. Does anyone have screen caps of this, so I can verify it?) But is that all?
NO! Yu-Gi-Oh continues! But not how you think. The next generation pic we saw at the end of Volume 38 (which I still need to buy, by the way. Does anyone in SF wanna go to Kinokuniya for me, spend $12 and send it my way? I'll send you $20 express mail for your trouble!) is apparently being anime-ized. Which means there's a whole new series about to start up! It goes by the name of "Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters: GenEX" or Generation Next (X?) if you wanna be picky about it. Kaiba is the ONLY character in the ad that was from the original series (so it seems), though people have theorized that Bakura and Yuugi are also present, with drastic hair changes. o_O One of the girls could also be Shizuka or maybe even Mai, but who knows for sure? Only Kazuki Takahashi and the animators... The new show starts airing TV Tokyo October 6th, at 6:30pm. The main character is Yuuki Juudai (遊戯十代), (Yuuki using the same characters as Yuugi's name; game, and one apparently for 'fortress?' The second character in the ad was kind of hard to see, and I'm not sure if it's the same one I used up there.) There is a Duelist School involved-- whoo boy. Plus, new card sets-- Soul of the Duelist, Pharaoh's Inheritance, Beginner's Edition, Rise of Destiny, and Expert Edition. Those names will probably be horribly mangled by the time they come to the US/UK, of course. ^_^
Today-- more progress on WDKY10, but as always, there's more. This chapter will hopefully be considered the "Way Too Long" wait. On the bright side, I think I'll be able to get 11 done all the faster, just because it's the chapter I've been eager to write since the beginning of the fic! ^_^
Okay, and while we're theorizing about the plot of YGODMGX, I have a few wicked fic ideas that could follow it a bit.
(1) We don't know who this Yuuki Juudai kid is, but he's a teenage duelist, and probably one of the people pictured in the ad-- likely the one in the front, don't you think? People have been saying that it's a bit futuristic, but so far, Kaiba's the only one we know 100% for sure is there (Others think that since the story revolves around a Duelist Academy of sorts, that perhaps Kaiba's visage is only there because he FOUNDED it).
(2) The idea then being... Kaiba founded a duelist academy after the Pharaoh's Memory arc (presumably shortly before or just after his graduation from DHS). Kids flock in to join the academy, but it's not easy to get into. And of course, Kaiba needs a few good TEACHERS... (hence the "cameo" appearances of Yuugi, Jounouchi, Honda, Otogi, Kajiki, and so on).
(3) I had the freakalicious idea that we have this Yuuki kid who has Anzu as a teacher on the first day of classes. Kaiba walks in to check in on the class, and Anzu steps out... and Yuuki catches them kissing. *smirk* Yuuki is asked to keep this secret from the other students and the other teachers, but this secret --among other things Yuuki hears about his teachers-- causes more problems than privileges.
It could go a bazillion different ways. You just have three requirements thus far:
(1) Yuuki Juudai
(2) Seto Kaiba
(3) Duelist Academy
Work it, baby!
And, scarily enough, I agree with a lot of the people on the Janime forums-- Mai really should have gotten an "ending" of sorts come the last volume, and one would hope that if she doesn't appear in the final episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (which should end around 224/225), then she'll have a part in YGODMGX. People theorize that the characters or at least CAMEOS will be done by our favorite cast members --just older. The ad apparently looks a bit futuristic, but Kaiba (even if he is turned to the side) doesn't look all that different.
More fun stuff:
* Kaiba with a time machine
* Kaiba that escaped aging somehow (trapped in VR World?)
* Kaiba clone!?
* Kaiba's son that happens to look a hell of a lot like him (this assumes that SETO Kaiba actually got laid. *snicker*)
TVTome got the fact that Kazuki Takahashi and Rumiko Takahashi (of Ranma and Inuyasha fame) were married WRONG. They are not, as far as I know... but hey! If they were, and there were a Yu-Gi-Oh Next Gen and Ranma CROSSOVER...
* Kaiba fell into a spring, and someone is cursed from the Spring of Drowned Kaiba
* Yuuki fell into Spring of Drowned Yuugi, but the water managed to keep his hair down and straight
* Anzu, Mai, and Serenity spent months going after cures, and ended up with sexay Amazon bods and longer, straighter hair (hence the girl in the GenEX image)
* Mokuba fell into Spring of Drowned Boy with Very Short Hair
*snicker*
Fic-wise, I haven't seen anyone endeavor with the The Duelists Had Kids! thing. Okay, a few, but most of them involve the original character somehow, rather than JUST the kids of the duelists. I would say I'd start something like that, but:
a) I have too many open fics right now
b) I have a fic idea that is kind of like that, but requires the original characters
c) it's too RPG-y.
Well... I have to go to sleep soon. Apparently we're actually leaving the HOUSE tomorrow. Here's hoping it isn't too friggin' hot, like it was today, or else I would have gone to the mall and gotten some job-shopping done! -_-;
