Well, I left school right in the middle of 5th period, which was hell in a handbasket in and of itself, probably because today was MY first day with the new English teacher, Mrs. Thompson. Turns out I've seen (and talked to) her before; back when Sherrill used to "run" journalism in 104, I helped her use the computers, because she was (and I believe still *is*) computer illiterate. *scoffs* So I think because of that she went easy on me, having to get a new book, take two quizzes about a story I hadn't/couldn't [have] read, etc. I got my permit to leave (also a hassle; the attendance office lady has a schedule all her own; my counselor was in a meeting, so Mr. Kelleher the assistant principal (I think...?) had to help me with it) and skedaddled off the campus once it was 1:00pm, but by the time I got the 38 over on 33rd ave, I was running late. Thankfully it wasn't so crowded, so it moved pretty fast, and I got to Divisidero pretty quickly-- by 1:40.
Mrs. Thompson, for the record, is evil. No food allowed in her class, and she glares at students that still follow Brewer's old "college bathroom" policy of getting up quickly and quietly without saying anything when "they need to go." Plus, she singled out Chris Lie (who admittedly, I'd love to see flayed open and eaten by mosquitoes) for wearing his tanktop (as usual) to class... she even referred to him as that guy from Streetcar Named Desire! So now Chris will have to wear a "real shirt" to class from now on. HAH!
Upon arriving at the allergy clinic, there had to be the torturously good smell of fresh baked goods as I walked into the allergy department; there's a Mediterranean cafe that has bagels and juices and stuff, and I was practically drooling, since the cream cheese and jelly sandwich I'd made myself this morning barely filled me up. I'm sick of owing people money too, so I didn't ask anyone to spot me. So I went in and waited about 10 minutes (only one girl was at the reception counter, and she was talking on the phone) to get all registered, and I was sitting happily engrossed in Fast Food Nation when my name was called by this short, gray-haired lady with glasses. Her name was Karen, it turned out, and even though I'd never taken the whole Pulmonary test before, she was nice, and didn't seem to get irritated when I messed up.
The whole ordeal was a lot easier than I thought it would be; the "exercise" part I had to do on a still-bicycle wasn't that hard, but it wasn't the same as trying to walk up three flights of stairs, or running a mile ROTC-style (i.e. keeping pace with everyone else, at Doubletime marching pace). Anyway, the whole system has you breathing into a tube connected to a computer, and it charts out your air intake and breathing flow. Apparently, for someone as small (grr) as me, with Asthma, I did pretty damn good, I got 125% air intake on one try! ^_^ So I guess that's good, I won't need to be hooked up to a respirator or anything any time soon. It's sad though, there are people like that at my school.
Karen's alma mater was Washington, which was really cool; she was class of '61 or something, and I mentioned the old manual to the school for freshman classes-- she'd asked about the murals in the lobby, and I mentione the D.I. (Dead Indian) and where I heard it from, so that was cool. She even used to be in Journalism, and had interviewed Pat Boone, a teen idol of her time *giggles* Man, I wish we could do something like that! Danny Glover at the Peace March, mm-hmm. =D She says she wants to check out the paper (so I'll bring the new issue in on my appt. on the 18th of March) and write a letter to the editor about reinstating the hi-low system, so that people can graduate in February, which I think is a damn good idea. =D
Mm, anyway, before I left school, Eva gave me some 'lish peanut butter cookies (I haven't finished eating 'em yet, since I remembered on the bus that you're not supposed to eat before your appointment) that I believe she made herself-- one of them's even burnt on the side, and almost all of them have some cute design ("cute." How very Eva) made with Reese's Pieces (MY FAV CANDY!! YUMMMMM!!!) and M&M minis (how come THEY have aquamarine M&Ms!? I thought PURPLE won!!). Yep yep.
So I'm all nice and dressed up (hehe) and eating macaroni to save myself the trouble of eating out tonight. Mom managed to squeeze out roughly $2 in dimes and nickles (oh yay) and I think now I might have successfully convinced her to give me a check (it'll keep my account afloat, if it hasn't gone under already!) to get some cash for the night. ^.~ YAY! I probably won't spend much though. She just hates the idea of me going out with friends without a cent to my name. =P She's feeling better, and apparently generous too, so I'm not complaining.
Gah, I'm running late now, and people might be wondering where I am. Whee, Mom's writing a check and we're discussing politics. Gotta jet!
