azuriteThat inherent energy I have would otherwise go toward railing on the dimwits on one of the Full Moon o Sagashite MLs I'm on. Seriously, the list drama as of late has got me laughing at these idiotic tweens.
Someone going by the alias of Morri has created a petition to "stop the licensing of Full Moon o Sagashite in the U.S." I ask you, what fan would want to STOP the licensing of a beloved manga? Let me make a few things clear:
(1) I am aware that when titles are brought to the U.S. (or any country besides Japan, really), the original author only takes a fraction of the sales revenue.
(2) I am also aware that some money is better than no money, hence I do not support scanlations and pirated DVDs of titles that are otherwise available in English.
(3) There are some excellent scanlations of FMoS, but I made the decision not to download and read them because a) they don't do the best job that a company could, b) Arina makes no money off of them, and c) people abuse scanlations and even if they SAY they buy the original manga, I bet they don't.
People use excuses like "Well what if they screw up the title?" I'm sorry, but WHAT IF!?!? Look, what if Tokyopop took on Sailor Moon again, and did a MUCH BETTER JOB WITH IT? If at first you don't succeed, try the hell again! In business yes, one failure (especially hard-hitting ones) do tend to knock you out of the running, but there isn't even a SINGLE company that has announced its interest in FMoS. Not that I've heard, anyway. And even if there WAS one, I'd base my opinions on whether or not they could successfully translate FMoS by looking at their past works, most recent works, or samples of how they'd translate FMoS!
Really, these people are idiots. Not every company that touches an anime or manga title "fucks it up" or ruins it-- it's a matter of opinion. I think Viz has done an excellent job with titles like Yu-Gi-Oh and Ranma 1/2, and yes, while Tokyopop (then Mixxzine) majorly screwed Sailor Moon over, after all their other title experience (X-Day, Forbidden Dance, and others), I think they could redo the series (in the 12-volume format) and make it FANTASTIC! I hate judgmental people, even if I'm guilty of being one from time to time. But honestly, why do people come up with excuses for their lack of logic-- excuses that are clearer than plastic wrap and thinner than rice paper? Seriously, it just pisses me off.
Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm worshiping Kysra (as if it wasn't obvious), I just got my package of art from her in the mail today. Reasons why this makes me happy:
1) My first real piece of mail down here! WHOO HOO!
2) From a friend
3) From a talented, uber COOL friend
4) From a dirty-minded goddess who has my utmost respect and every ounce of my envy
5) It's got ficart from some of my favorite titles, including Mamono's "In the Sands of Egypt" and Atlantis's "Once Upon A Halloween."
6) It's got stuff for WDKY and Family! WHOOO HOOOO!
7) It's got fragments of stuff I've commissioned from her-- stuff that is INCREDIBLE LOOKING
8) It's got stuff that gave me a nosebleed (seriously). ^_^
I am one happy panda.
On my to-do list...
(1) Get a job. I went to Northridge Fashion Center today and snagged applications from Border's, Game Stop, and RAVE. GS and Rave aren't hiring, but they're always accepting applications, and Icing always accepts applications too, but they were out. Here's hoping that Border's will hire me. ^_^
(2) Get money-- probably from dog-sitting and walking the fur balls across the streets. The two golden retrievers are Harley and Ajax, and the older female mutt is Missy. They've all gotten to like me, but the boys are pretty frisky and heavy (almost as much as me!). Two weeks from now, I'll be dog-sitting, and the $40 I hope to get will cover at least some of my manga purchases (Hot Gimmick 4 and 5, most especially! OMG!Drama!)
(3) Finish cleaning room - Which involves the purchase of more hangers, really. I can't believe I need so many hangers. Send me hangers, okay? But not the cheap metal ones-- I need plastic. Oooh, PLASTIC! Also, get double-stick tape to hang up the coat hook on the door, and use some for the big posters and wall scrolls, in lieu of push pins and other hooks.
(4) Figure out how the heck to FTP from this computer. Dreamweaver 4, ws_ftp Pro, and Internet Explorer are all being biznatches and giving me the "cannot make connection to server" error. I know it's not the domain, as Marianya-neechan can connect just fine, and I did too, back at home on the Crapola Comp running 56K. So it must be this computer, or this Internet connection. But does someone care to inform me why I have to DIAL UP for DSL!? Wtf.
(5) Fanart. Ficart. Webpages. Fix BEA, download the current versions of all my webpages, and get Dragonfayth up and running. Even if it means starting the PSD skin files from scratch... -_- Plus, Fran from Kokoro no Naka never got back to me with the four full-sized images I requested. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for her to get those back? I could just swipe the regular-sized ones and remove her watermark, but that feels WRONG.
