Random Acts of Kindness
Jun. 29th, 2004 08:49 pmOkay, so I've been feeling rather lousy since yesterday-- lousy defined as guilty and dirty and stuff... Blah, that's another entry. Anyway, so I woke up kind of late today (I didn't get to sleep until around 5am this morning), so I skipped out on Jimmy's invite to some BESM thing at Cris's (for other reasons, as well).
I woke up and got to work on WDKY10-- and I'm progressing through loads of revisions, references, and other changes throughout the fic. When I get around to making my loads of layouts (still gotta make a new one for Darkness Rising, and Snapshot, along with the SMRFF, Mare Serenitatis, and countless others...), I'll be sure to make the special WDKY page that includes ALL of these pages (Changelogs, References, etc).
Then I dashed out to Safeway, since we're low on milk and lacking bread and cereal-- essentials for any Sweet lifestyle! ^_^ On the way there, some guys asked me directions to SFSU, which I was more than happy to provide-- I was quite pleased that for once, someone asked me directions to a place I *definitely* knew how to get to. Hopefully I didn't confuse them too much with the whole Park Presidio into 19th Avenue thing, or the streets in Alpha order deal. ^^;
I'd spent some of the grocery money yesterday (bad Mer!) but I made it up by going through my Tootsie Roll banks and making a few rolls of pennies to use as backup cash. Mom didn't seem too upset by it anyway... Though I didn't exactly tell her how much I spent (something like $5) yesterday. There was $2 at RTA, and $3 at In-N-Out. ;_; I was hungry!
By the way, the Hooter's poster near In-N-Out (painted on bricks) has these two ladies on it that look strikingly like Xena and Gabrielle. Least, I think so. :P
Anyway, so after I snagged the required groceries (they didn't have Special K Red Berry! Those MEANIES!!!) I went to a lane... the woman in front of me was a total snot. She looked at me, looked at the conveyor, and maybe 10 seconds later (contemplating her blonde-ness, no doubt) decided to slide me the separator. But that didn't bug me so much as the fact that both the cashier and the bagger were polite (as always), and not the least bit sarcastic. But did she say ANYTHING to them? No. She barely even acknowledged them when the cashier asked her if she might need help loading things into her car. So when I went up there, I made it a point to say hi to the cashier, say what's up, I was having a nice day, how was he? Same for the bagger. I mean, I'd like to think that I would speak back when I'm spoken to! (Especially if it's in a non-intimidating situation. It's not like the cashier and bagger were homeless people!)
On my way home, it's 9th and Cabrillo, and I see this crow pecking at these little birds. At first I thought it was just a case of Seed Greed or whatever, but then after the crow flew away, I noticed this one poor little bird (tiny, one of those parking lot size hopper ones) with a really messed up looking wing and what looked like a bloody beak. I got so freaked out by the little guy, I stopped on the sidewalk to see if there was anything I could do. It hopped right under my cart, but I didn't want to accidentally run it over, so I lifted the cart up and nudged it out a little; I called Mom to get me the number for Animal Control. They said if I could capture the little guy in my sweater, I could bring it to their location-- friggin' 15th St. and Harrison! That's on the other ass end of town! Now, of course, not having a car, I said this-- so the guy offered another option; if I could get hold of it and bring it to my house, they could pick it up. I tried this-- took off my keys and my sweater, and tried to make a nice nest for the poor guy to get into.
The whole time I was on the phone, the bird just sat there kind of blinking at me. It was really sad. When I tried to get it in my sweater though, it hopped away. It wasn't that far, but the closer I got, the farther it went, until it was under a car. It couldn't fly away because its wing was so bent and messed up, but... at least it was alive. I did what I could by calling, but I can't take an animal out of its natural habitat if it doesn't want to be. So I went home. I hope the little guy survives.
*sigh*
Anyway, onto happier/weirder topics.
(1) Is anyone else in the USA having problems accessing Jenniyah's Yu-Gi-Oh scanlations page. Yes yes, I know it says that the site isn't for people from the USA because it's licensed here, but lacking Volume 37, I wanted to look at the scene with Seto and Kisara in Battle 334. I'm wondering if they actually put a USA-ISP blocker up, or if the site is just *down.* Maybe people outside the USA could also check, and tell me if they're getting errors as well? Normally I don't bother with scanlations (since YGO is licensed in the States and I support Viz; also because I can read the Japanese volumes I buy from Kinokuniya) but this is a special exception.
(2) WDKY. Pennies. Need more penny roll things.
Oh yeah, and today's my Dad's birthday! :DDD Can you believe I forgot up until MOM, of all people, reminded me? Hah. But he hasn't called. Or maybe he has, and my cell phone is being stupid. In LA, I can use the same phone, but mom pays $5 to prevent Analog Roam or whatever. But why can't I just get a new phone...!? Gah, too much money. Stupid, stupid...
Yesterday went to RTA, and surprise!surprise, it wasn't just Joe there, but Jimmy, Christal, Richie, and Sean as well. o_O I'm not forgetting anyone, am I? It was so dead there, so Joe and Jimmy hogged Extreme for at least 20 minutes. I got a few tokens (shame on me!) and grabbed an Initial D Version 3 Card (whee, got my RX-8 with the assistance of Richie!)-- which is Green. Maybe it's just RTA, having been worn down by so many HKs and FOBs, but it also could have been the RX-8 itself, or the previous player's stiffness settings. Anyway, I kept ramming into the wall as I raced Itsuki (Iggy) on Myogi with the RX-8; I pulled ahead in the last lap and WON! :D Boo-yah.
Then I counted my ticket receipts that I'd saved up from all my previous excursions; to my absolute surprise, I had 2154, which was enough to get the new Glitter Motion Lava Lamp they had on display! Okay, so I'm a bit of a lava lamp freak. But I want my room in LA to be wicked cool, and what better way to decorate than with loads of things in my favorite color-- PURPLE!? ^_^ So I got the Lava Lamp, 2 new pairs of bracelets (glitter blue and glitter purple, of course) and a 3 ft. long Pixi Stix-- Orange Flavor. I ate it all, too. :D
Played some DDR with Jimmy (he fielded 2 of the 3 required tokens), mostly songs I'd never done before. T'wasn't too bad. Exercise, at any rate. I read more of "Pledged," and then we took off for In-N-Out (for lack of a closer, cheaper, better place nearby. Seriously, it's either that, 7-11, or McDonald's. Blech). Sean was messing around with his yo-yos all night long (seriously, he's freaky good with those things), and he even got some people staring at him through the In-N-Out window. He was still using them (to scare tourists! hah!) when we caught the F to downtown. Joe and Richie got off to take BART home; Jimmy, Richie, Sean, Christal and I went further. Christal took the 14, but Sean, Jimmy and I grabbed the 31 to Sean's house to watch some yo-yo videos (competitions are scary, man. The tricks they do?! Wow) and stuff he'd made in Propster's class in Advanced Video Production.
Again, amazement. Sean's group, Flaming Cabbage, is actually quite good *and* funny. Other, pathetic groups resorted to making vids about ROTC (and they forgot to turn the mic on whenever they interviewed others) or a kid running away from a fake bully. -.-; Plus they had one of these people imitating Sean, but they didn't do a good job at it. What was funny was that in THAT video, someone cut "Sean's" yo-yo string. Sean told me that had actually happened to him before, and all he did was whip out some extra string, and keep yo-yoing. That's what makes him so Scary Cool. :)
Jimmy and I left really late-- after 3am. I was too freaked out to wait at the bus stop by myself, but luckily the bus came just as we were rounding the corner from Sean's, so I just ran for it and got on. I nearly missed my stop too (engrossed in "Pledged," which I finished), but I walked home... thoughts filled with various things.
Yep, so that was it. Now LiveJournal is being stupid, I should be going out with Steph++ tomorrow, and I'm working mad-dog on WDKY. I want to work on layouts, awards, and SM fics and junk, but I have to take this at a pace where I don't get fried.
...And I feel like I'm forgetting something again, but I don't know what. Dammit.

Date: 2004-06-30 01:10 pm (UTC)O.o DDR! I love DDR! I have it at home on my PS1. What songs are your favorite? I love End of the Century.
Have you ever played Pump It Up?
Stomp!
Date: 2004-06-30 10:25 pm (UTC)As for DDR, I usually play it at arcades, since the home-pad concept doesn't work well when you have a carpet (like me). I have played the PS1 versions of 3rd and 5th Mix though. I like loads of songs from different mixes-- some of my faves are "Break Down" (Max2/7th), and "Stomp to my Beat" (2nd, I think).
I've played Pump It Up only once before-- at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and I don't like it as much as DDR. Too many places to stomp. ^^;
