Sex, drugs, rock and roll.
Jun. 10th, 2004 01:42 amI'm not DESPERATE to go to Anime Expo, but I would certainly *like* to. Joe needs another person for the hotel room, but it's $127/4 nights. That's not even saying how I would get down there (though I could probably go earlier with my dad to move stuff, and just have home or Grandpa drive me to Anaheim... or I could take a bus there). Plus there's at-the-door reg, which will be something like $50, and then there's the need for Dealer's Room cash and food... I think about $250. But I can't sell Mom's old bike (she still uses it because it's "different" from the brand-spankin' new bike Gary just bought her), nor the piano (it's out of tune and Mom still uses it at Michelle's SHRINE!) nor the car (it probably isn't even worth $50).
*sigh* I can only think of two things I could get $250 quickly from, and, like I said, I'm not that desperate. =P If anyone else has any better ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. Meanwhile, my creative juices decided to go leaking all over the Internet, and now I have some creative challenges for any interested writers. Primarily YGO writers, of course, so here you go:
Haha, anyway. So if people were interested in a challenge of sorts, I have a few interesting ones on the burners:
(1) from the setoanzulove community on LiveJournal -- we were going to do a round robin for any and all that have a LJ. We have the plot thus far set up, but the more writers that get into it, the better. Go look us up and check out some past posts for more detail.
(2) Mamono ("In The Sands of Egypt") issued a challenge for a oneshot songfic/song-related fic, using Seal's "Kiss From A Rose," pref. using the Seto/Anzu pairing (duh).
(3) Something I was considering recently-- you know all the clichéd challenge fics that seem to exist in every damn fandom but our own? (Cool, that.) I'm sure you've heard of some of them before. There's the infamous Blanket Challenge, which swept through the Inuyasha fandom. And there's (believe it or not) badfic challenges, which ask people to either MST or just purposely write the stupidest, worst things they can-- and make it funny.
Well, I offer a twist on the challenges:
a) The Blanket Challenge -- If you're up to it, take two characters (pref. Seto/Anzu, as that's my OTP) and have them get stuck somewhere. Anywhere. Believably. I don't mean "stuck in the library" like someone once had. It was a good fic, but not very plausible. *cough* Anyway, so they get stuck somewhere, and temperatures start to... drop. But there's no blanket. Ooooh no. You gotta make do with what you have. So what do they have? *cough*Trenchcoat*cough*
b) The Hot Tub Challenge - good gawd, isn't this one obvious? Find a way to stuff them into a hot tub. Well, that's the original challenge. *thinks for a second* If people want a twist on the challenge, I'd say that it can't just be the two characters in there-- there'd have to be a minimum of four, and they should all be from the main cast of Yu-Gi-Oh. What they talk about or do is up to you (but if you want to be extra-cool, have someone somehow bring up peanut butter for more than a two-second "scene.")
c) The I-Pulled-It-Out-Of-A-Generator Challenge (no really, I did - it's at http://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php?Genname=quickstory) The theme of this story: epic mystery. The main characters: depressed dancer and irrational heir. The start of the story: joke. The end of the story: wedding. (I swear to god, the thing knew I was thinking of Seto and Anzu.) Note that even if you DO use them as characters/a couple, no one says that SHE has to be the depressed dancer nor HE the irrational heir. Likewise, neither one of them has to be involved in the joke or the wedding. But obviously, it's got to be about somebody from Yu-Gi-Oh.
d) The Generator-Movie Challenge - You know how films always start out with catchy little tag lines? Well your fic has to revolve around one of them. How about "In a universe of virtual reality, in an age of crime, five [insert people here] try to solve the ultimate crime." Or, if you like Bakura, "In a godforsaken land, in an era of sin and enchantment, a tomb-robber searches for justice."
e) The BRAND NEW DUEL MONSTER OMG! Challenge - Create a Duel Monster and introduce it's amazing new attack upon the world for all the duelists to ph33r: "Frost Electro Blasting Strike!" For extra points, make it a brand new dueling tournament but the following people CANNOT have anything to do with sponsoring/starting the tournament: Pegasus/Industrial Illusions, Kaiba/KaibaCorp/Mokuba, Isis/Marik. They can all be IN the tournament, or have something to do with it, but someone else has to put the whole shebang together, drag everyone into it, and show off all their spiffy duel monsters. Triple points if you can somehow make it a romance (and still have believable dueling scenes).
f) The Impossibly Possible Crossover Challenge - Yu-Gi-Oh plus one of the following:
- Full Metal Panic
- Sailor Moon
- Inuyasha
- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (yes, I mean the original series!)
- Final Fantasy X, X-2
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel
- Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, or Voyager
- The Vision of Escaflowne (TV)
MINUS points if Pokemon, Digimon, or Harry Potter characters come into play, or if any of the characters from any of the series are "AU"ized-- meaning, they have no memory of their proper timeline/place.
BONUS points if the story has ACTION in it.
DOUBLE points if there's some ROMANTIC TENSION, regardless of whether it gets resolved by fic's end or not.
There's probably loads more clichéd fic ideas out there (gee, using this one page of generators, I came up with more ORIGINAL ones than I did clichéd, overused, trite CHALLENGES!). o_O Someone tell me if you're crazy enough to use one of these.
Meanwhile, in the SO2 realm, I've managed to go up and down the CoT without dying-- I've trained Claude, Rena, Opera, and Precis up to the point where they're a bit higher than before-- 160s, 150s, and 130s, respectively. I tried entering Opera in the Survival Battle tourney, but she got swallowed by a Riverside in the 26th match. Besides, she didn't level up ONCE during the whole affair-- how am I supposed to level her, Precis, Chisato, and Leon up to Level 180+!? *sigh*
Coming soon... I'm probably going to finish "The Chamber of Secrets" tonight-- er, later today. It just occurred to me that it's Thursday. Saturday I'm going to meet some people that Jorge/Ryu knows from Fanime-- and hey, they might have seen me, too. I'm not too shy with showing off my cosplay picture, now that it's up on Cosplay.com. :> And then around 6 or 7, I'm going to see Harry Potter 3 *again* with Katia, Steph, and Chue... and someone else? *shrugs* I keep thinking I'm forgetting someone. I hope to read Book 3 by then, that way I can nitpick the movie like everyone else. :}
But bleh, I'm just feeling kind of sad and out of it. Maybe the whole PMS thing is kicking in a week late. I wasn't moody at all last week, but this week I've got the aches (I pulled a muscle in my neck, and now I have a headache), the pains (cramps), and the moodiness (I'm actually quite lonely and in the mood for a good sob).
Of course, I could blame it all on "Stand By Me," which Steph and I chose to watch over dinner tonight (post-attacking my room-- we actually made some headway with my various piles, including my clothes mountain!). Shockingly enough, it was a mirror of a lot of events in my life, right down to the fact that Wil Wheaton's character was a writer whose older sibling died in an accident. -.-; No wonder why Mom never watches that anymore.
Blah. I can't tell if I'm eager to go to LA or not. I'm so lonely...

Date: 2004-06-12 12:31 am (UTC)Le sigh.
ACK!
Date: 2004-06-11 12:56 am (UTC)I was going to DO the trenchcoat/blanket idea but as a scene in a much larger fic ;-; I had it all planned out and everything . . . maybe I could do it as a teaser???? Or maybe I can make it a oneshot if I REALLY try. Insane minds think alike and all that ^_~
I'm already doing Mamono's challenge . . . yes, I have a plan -- Now if I could only finish my other stuff >-<
Hhhhhmmmmm . . . The Pulled-It-Out-Of-A-Generator Challenge is promising *big grin*
And I'm sure you'll make friends in LA, although, I have to say, I'm not too keen on moving either O.O New Orleans -- I'll be like the country cousin in the big city.
Re: ACK!
Date: 2004-06-12 12:36 am (UTC)I wanna see trenchcoat slash blanket goodness! COME OOOON! I need to write more oneshots, anyway. And define for the too-young fangirls that ONESHOT MEANS "THE END!!!"
-.o Yes, I actually got someone asking me to "please continue" Mash. ^^;

Seto meets Sesshomaru! Long lost brothers? <~Joke
XDDD
Re: Fun!
Date: 2004-06-12 01:00 am (UTC)Speaking of which, there's a hilarious image of Seto OVERKILLing some FFX monsters with his briefcase. And Roland, while he's at it. Sesshomaru wouldn't go down that easy, but it's a funny mental picture.
Re: Fun!
Date: 2004-06-12 01:08 am (UTC)Seto killing with his briefcase? o__O I always knew that thing was dangerous.... XD
