I need a title.
May. 22nd, 2004 04:46 pmDamn. This was funny.

100% Seto's Sera: you're just like me! That's
pretty scary. Seto Kaiba is the man for you,
nobody else will do. When Tea yelled at Seto
for being mean, you got pissed. When Pegasus
stole Seto's soul, you screamed and cried. When
Seto declared Battle City officially open, you
cackled right along with him. He is Seto and
you are Sera. You two should be joined at the
hip!
Are you the match made for Seto Kaiba? 20 questions long

Anzu HAS to take this quiz. Come hell or high water. I will find a way.
But what does "Sera" mean?
People have the stupidest reasons for hating either Seto (rare) or Anzu (unfortunately common). I've decided that for my next BEA update (and I have to check and see why no one's joining) I will list reasons why it's stupid to bash either of them. Here are a few I have thus far:
Anzu/fashion sense - Has it ever occurred to you that a) Yu-Gi-Oh was written by a Japanese guy? He probably doesn't have the same fashion sense as YOU, whoever YOU are, oh queen of all things Prada. And b) Yu-Gi-Oh was initially written in 1996. Time doesn't pass so fast in the anime world as it does in the real world, so likely some clothes that were worn in YGO actually MIGHT have been in-style when the series came out in 1996. Another thing-- c) in anime, it's a given that characters that look and dress like everyone else in the real world are BOOOORING. EVERY SINGLE FANDOM HAS THIS. There are always characters with exotic hair colors (Bakura, Marik) or styles (Yugi, Marik, Odion) or outfits (Kaiba). So what if purple and gray don't match according to YOUR book? Better than being plain old black and white!
Anzu/friendship speeches - If anyone tries to use this as an "excuse" then I swear I will shove a 2 x 4 down their throat. Yugi and Joey (hell, even in the Japanese version, with Yuugi and Jounouchi!) both make friendship speeches just as much, if not MORE often than Téa/Anzu. Another thing to consider is that in the dub, much of the romantic stuff or serious stuff is "toned down" for kids *cough*immatureviewers*cough*. So yeah, where ANZU would usually be saying stuff about kicking Kaiba's pompous ass, Téa would be telling Yugi to believe in the cards. Things change from the original to the dub. Get over it. This is NOT an excuse.
Anzu&Seto/voices - Regardless of whether it's the anime or the manga, the voice does NOT make the character. Read the manga if their VA damages you so badly. And plenty of people complain about Seto's Japanese VA just as much as his (or Yugi's, or Dark Marik's) dub voice. When I first heard Dark Marik's dub voice, I burst out laughing. Anyone that has seen the original series will know why. But you know what? There ARE such things as closed captions/subtitles and the MUTE button. USE them. Or hell, do a FANDUB! Some people might appreciate that. It's been done for series like Sailormoon, where the dub acting was ATROCIOUS! Oh, and for those that hate the Japanese seiyuus, it's a matter of preference. But all the YGO cast characters --at least Seto and Anzu-- are also singers. And they do a damn good job at what they do and manage to say in character, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for some of the DUB voices.
Seto/attitude - Frankly, I think Kaiba's attitude is part of his charm. :> Yes, he's a pompous, egotistical ass, but he's far from the only example of such behavior on this planet, let alone in anime (or the YGO fandom). Every person has, at one time, met someone whose head was so inflated you thought it would detach itself and float away. Well, that person is Kaiba. He's rich, he's intelligent, he's an excellent duelist-- but he has his flaws. He's a sore loser. He's a lonely guy. He needs people, but he won't admit it. So yeah, his attitude needs tweaking, but that's what the show is about-- people finding out who they really are, underneath their exteriors. Making friends, making enemies. *SHOCK* What, you thought it was just about dueling? Loser.
Hmm... I'm sure I can think of a few more if you give me time. But my back is killing me, and I want to work on WDKY10. ;_; And I wish I had a tablet so I could fix up my fanart!

Date: 2004-05-23 02:29 am (UTC)The problem lies in fanfiction
Date: 2004-05-23 03:15 pm (UTC)And thus, they take their rage out on poor Tea, who had nothing to do with anything. They make Yugi into some contorted freak who complains about Tea, calling her a slut and a bitch and-- she's none of those things, and characterizing her as such should be a crime.
Yes, it's true that OVER-characterization can be just as bad as OOC, but rarely-- maybe because you don't see it that often. People just like to pick out one trait that COULD be interpreted as negative, and they blow it out of proportion to make the character seem terrible.
;_; It's seriously not fair. There should be a law about characterizing. You can't force people into thinking Tea (or any other character) is annoying if it's through bad characterization-- let them make up their own minds!

Date: 2004-05-23 06:04 pm (UTC)Seriously. If you think you can do a character voice better than someone else, then by all means just go ahead and try. Who knows? You might be better than the guy, or you could be even worse. Hell, there were times when I thought I could be a better Tidus (from FFX), but James Arnold Taylor does the role better than I could.
On another note...hey, I'd like to do a fandub of something. However, I'd do it strictly for comedic purposes...you know, like Kung Faux on the Fuse network.
The thing about voices
Date: 2004-05-23 06:13 pm (UTC)So even when you fandub, you're probably trying to sound like SOMEBODY-- that, in your mind, fits the role better than whoever snagged it in the dub. Hence the creation of fandubs. Of course, some FDs only exist because the idiot companies didn't produce the series fast enough *cough*sailormoon*cough*...
