I wanna dance, I wanna dance!
Apr. 13th, 2004 02:04 pmGah, it's Not Another Fanfiction Idea Day today. >_< Aside from my multitude of already-posted, unfinished fics, I now have ideas for "The Speed of You," an Initial D/Yu-Gi-Oh (stop laughing) crossover... plus "Deep Blue," which is sort of a fantasy/romance, inspired by (really, stop laughing) Finding Nemo. And there's still "The Show Must Go On" which Atlantis is looking over... "Pop," which is a one-shot, the untitled, as-yet-unwritten Rose Duelist fic, and of course, the "arsty" one I thought of this past weekend, which I still need a title for.
And that's not including WDKY, TJOY, TLC, or any of the other fics I started recently. ;_; Why are my muses in overdrive?? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS!?
Oh yeah, and some interesting factoids that I found out...
torque ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tôrk)
n. A collar, a necklace, or an armband made of a strip of twisted metal, worn by the ancient Gauls, Germans, and Britons.
So Isis really *does* possess a Millennium Torque. Personally I think Necklace just sounds better and is more widely understood, though... Still, when I read 'torque,' I think racing and motorcycles and leathers and Ice Cube. -.-; And movies that didn't do so well in theaters.
According to the "all-knowing Bonasi's" site, in katakana, it is written as タウク (tauku), hence the misconception that Isis possesses the Millennium "Tauk." Still, the dictionary says that it was worn by Gauls, Germans, and Britons. -.- Not Egyptians. But I am SURE of the fact that torques were a type of jewelry worn by many people in Africa, so maybe it just went by another name.
As for Atem/Atemu's name... Maybe I'm being too stubborn again, but I really think Takahashi was *forced* to add the 'oo' sounding heiroglyph in order to have the Pharaoh's name be translatable (I don't think that's a word... >_>) into Japanese. He could have left the the last heiroglyph off, but he still would have had to romanize it as 'Atemu.' So, to make everything consistent, he added the 'oo' sound. But it's not proper Egyptian-- male royal Egyptian names *NEVER* (in all my reading) ended in vowels (female names did-- Nefertiti, for example). But hey, I could be completely wrong again. I'm willing to admit it. Besides, plenty of people still call him 'Pharaoh Yugi' or 'King Yami' or some idiocy like that. Atem is just as easily written 'Atemu,' so if need be, I can change all instances of it in MY fanfiction. I don't think the rest of the world will follow in kind, though. Like me, they'll need some hard proof (namely, male royal Egyptian names ending in vowels).
In conclusion:
- I believe P.Seto can also be called 'Set.' I don't like the idea that he's being directly associated with such a BAD god, but... it makes sense. I still have yet to see the rumored "interview" that Takahashi gave that says he purposefully named Seto for that reason.
- Isis possesses a Millennium Torque. So as to not confuse people thinking of greasy engines, you can also call it a Necklace, as a Torque is a *type* of necklace. Or if you're a purist, you can call it a Millennium Tauku, but it's just the Japanese way of pronouncing 'Torque.' It's not a Tauk.
- The Atem vs. Atemu battle wages on. I still need proof that it's a legit Egyptian (NOT JAPANESE) name.
MORE ANGST:
- I burned a CD with a bunch of stuff-- mostly AMVs and 2 Yu-Gi-Oh episodes on it, but my CD-ROM's power cord is finally giving out on me-- the pins in the connection cable are bent or whatever, so I have to get a new one from Radio Shack or wherever. I just hope it's cheap. I hope the CD itself isn't messed up (it shouldn't be; I managed to watch 2 AMVs before the player crashed), since I already deleted all the files off Grandpa's comp.
-For tomorrow, the tentative plan is to have dinner at Hard Rock Cafe (Pier 39) sometime around 7pm. o_O I hope Joe (and maybe Taz, though he's got all that massuse-y stuff going on) can come... and ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO!!!! >_> I don't want to be the only girl besides my Mom (and she doesn't count, because she's MOM). CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLL MEEEEE!!! I also have a Birthday Combo coupon for the Metreon, so if anyone wants to catch a movie at the Met tomorrow, lemme know!
- For Saturday (which I BETTER have gotten off), I don't have any real plans, but I'd like to order some pizza over at my house and get rid of this massive amount of soda mom bought the other day. Maybe watch some movies, play some games, (duel...), stuff and junk and stuff. :)
-Since when is the Academy of Art College "Academy of Art University?" It sounds weird to me... How do you define the difference between a college and a university, anyway!? And speaking of the school, someone there is in troooooouble... get the juicy details here. After reading the story, tell me-- do you think censorship is appropriate in certain situations? Who really "deserves" to have the power to censor stuff, and under what circumstances?
Yeah, so I'm going to meet Mom downtown for some shopping and such... I suppose I'll go to CompUSA for the cable, if I don't swing by Radio Shack on my way to Walgreens to get my prescrip... anyway, gotta shower now.
o_o There's Jamba Juice all over my pants. Stupid blue smoothies of doom.
And that's not including WDKY, TJOY, TLC, or any of the other fics I started recently. ;_; Why are my muses in overdrive?? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS!?

Date: 2004-04-14 01:14 pm (UTC)That bit always confused me. That's why I always said that for Atemu, the u was probably silent, and if Takahashi had intended Seto to be written as 'Set,' then he would have written Setto, with the silent o at the end (a more forceful pronunciation of the t when romanizing the Egyptian glyphs to Japanese would have made it clear that it was the same name as the Egyptian God).
I'm still confused... :) but what else is new?
^_^ Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Re: Beta birthday bash!
Date: 2004-04-15 05:36 pm (UTC)And I don't know what is up with the supposed Change of Heart vol. 11 coming out in November; as far as I know that *would* put the book count at #19, so maybe TP is going to release the FanBook as part of Change of Heart? That would be bizarre.
I'll try and be on this weekend; I have to go and get my schedule now.
Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Date: 2004-04-16 03:18 pm (UTC)Anyways, I was wondering...how old are you? ^_^

Date: 2004-04-17 01:23 pm (UTC)I mean some of the questions friend #1 asked..."Do you guys vacuum?"
Me: "Wtf!? >_< Shannon!"
I tend to shy from commitments like getting a tattoo. ^^;;
Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Date: 2004-04-17 01:26 pm (UTC)I'd want to go to a place my friends could back as being reputable and worth the money.
