I never knew there was an "adult" version of HP, and as one of my other friends explained it, it was to create a more sophisticated cover so people wouldn't get teased on the subway. The U.S. just has one release for adults and kiddies alike. ^^; I thought it might have to do with more "adult" language and situations! But it's just the cover art.

I know about the changed words-- Philosopher's Stone --> Sorcerer's Stone, motorbike --> motorcycle, chips --> fries, and so on. These make sense so that American readers understand the context JKR was putting across.
