those dreams I still demi-harbor, about one day teaching the things I love suddenly I got the impression that I'd be a really LOUSY teacher.
I sincerely doubt it. With Scott there is an emotional dimension there that you wouldn't have with students. That makes it hard to say what needs to be said. I hate talking to my parents about anything historical because I know they're not interested and I'd rather not have them mocking my interests. But, get me in front of a group that doesn't know squat about the English Civil War and I'm all about the sieging. There is a distance - and yeah it has a lot to do with power relationships too. Do not judge your teaching skills based on an episode with someone you're close to.
Heh, Bakura's buggin' ya too? XD
(Can't wait to see Star Wars even if the dude playing Anakin makes me want to bash him over the head screaming "WITH FEELING THIS TIME!!!")
As for how to write for Time or something like that -- take it one step at a time. Build up your portfolio with local newspapers or magazines. If you have to, start out freelance NOW. Most newspapers need freelance people to cover small events like a lecture or seminar being held at a community center. It's not much but it's something to put down to say you have some experience. And - of course - you'll need a lot of patience ^_~
Also, find journalism groups online - ya know job reference sites (if such things exist) and what not so that you can get an idea of what employers are looking for.
And . . . and that's all I've got at the moment XD Good luck! I have the utmost faith in you!
