Whoo! Sometimes a nap after being stressed out is a VERY good thing.
(1) Before I was about to call it an afternoon and nap, Armando from Suncoast called me back! I've got the job~ I'm going to be RICH this summer *does happy dance* ... which means my idiotic problems with my bank are going to be OVER with (eventually).
(2) It was a very nice nap, thanks for asking. Sleep helps clear up confusion, you know- your brain processes everything out and then when you wake up, sometimes you get epiphanies. My "awakenings" (har har) had to do with "Circle of Seven" and icons.
Re: Circle of Seven, I wanted it to be 7 chapters. That turned out to be impossible pretty quick, so I opted for factors of 9-- namely 18 chapters. That wasn't going to work, because CO7 has two "acts," both distinctly separate from one another. So now I'm leaning toward the inevitable-- CO7 will be AT LEAST 27 chapters, with a strong possibility of being 36, just like WDKY. But on the bright side, I'm writing bits and pieces of it now, so when I finally finish with WDKY, all CO7 will need is a good edit over at
betasquad.
Re: icons -- I want to make more Sailor Moon icons.
baine will be happy about this. I decided to check one of my older haunts-- alt.binaries.sailor-moon, in the hopes of finding some good flood images. But I have the same problem that I did before-- for some reason, my news server (news.la.sbcglobal.net) never gets a lot of messages. All the other free servers I use do, but they don't get the images, because they're so huge. So does anyone know where I can access alt.binaries.sailor-moon with little to no cost, and get the images I need?
On the same subject of alt.fan.sailor-moon, an interesting topic was posted there-- "Was the real Princess Sailor V?" Now, die-hard Sailor Moon fans will be quick to point out that while Code Name wa Sailor V came first, Usagi was and always will be the Moon Princess. Whether you follow the anime or the manga, the dub or the sub changes everything else after that point.
Somehow, the topic transformed into a discussion about the Ginzuishou/Silver Crystal. Some interesting questions were raised/implied:
* Why is such a "holy" magical crystal parasitic in nature? It requires the lifeforce of the user to work; that's why Queen Serenity died sending everyone to the future, why Princess Serenity died using it against Queen Metallia, and again, trying to stop Fiore's asteroid from crashing into earth, etc. etc.
* How did it get split up into the Seven Rainbow Crystals in the anime? Remember, in the anime, Cosmos is never said to exist (her existence is implied though; we see a shadowy form of her when Chibi-Chibi explains who she really is). After all, if the Ginzuishou is Usagi's Star Seed, how could she have survived without it? If Queen Serenity died from using the Crystal to its full potential, who did the splitting? The only possible candidate is Pluto, but why would she have done that, instead of leaving the crystal INTACT within Usagi (which would cause her to be reborn as a Sailor Soldier, since only 'true' Star Seeds --> Sailor Senshi) so she could use it as the next Queen Serenity? (Does Pluto have some evil vendetta!?)
Some people theorized that if Pluto didn't do the splitting (but can she even do that? She's more, the crystal split up of its own accord, trying to attach to the most similar lifeforce it found nearby --Usagi's-- but it had to travel through space-time, and "you know those G-forces on crystal..." :P
Following that same theory, Usagi is a human-- not a member of the moon family at all. The one thing I love to stress in fandoms like Sailor Moon (and Inuyasha, too) is that reincarnation =/= ancestry. Princess Serenity didn't have any children to have children to have children (and so on) until Usagi was born. Usagi *IS* Serenity reincarnated, period. That means if the Ginzuishou WAS split up, something still had to exist within Usagi so that when she needed to become Serenity again, the crystal would recognize her. This is what we see (in both the anime and the manga) as her "teardrop" that called the crystal.
This latent power to guard the crystal (since Usagi was never the Guardian of a Planet; more the guardian of the crystal, or the Guardian of the Moon) was what Luna recognized as Sailor Power; it might have become a Star Seed had Usagi not bound herself to the Ginzuishou when she did. However, if she'd never gotten the power of the Ginzuishou and still fought as Sailor Moon (an interesting prospect, for sure), her Star Seed would have turned black and she'd be just as dead as the rest of the senshi.
Luna and Artemis both didn't recognize that latent power in Usagi for what it really was --something, somehow connected to the Ginzuishou. People can blame that on a number of things, namely their failed stasis. It was never explicitly stated whether or not Serenity was supposed to be sent to a specific time, any time, or what. And as for Luna and Artemis, how were they to awaken at the same time as the senshi? What would have happened if the Senshi had been split up all over the world, or if they'd all awoken in different eras (sounds like a fic to me!)
As for the Rainbow Crystals and the Ginzuishou, it's also pretty unlikely that something of that power could have split "accidentally." So if it wasn't the whole sending of the moon court to the future that killed Serenity, it was the combination of:
a) sealing Beryl/Metallia away in an alter-dimension, the "Dark Kingdom" or "Negaverse"
b) sending the moon court and part of the Earth/Terran court to Earth to be reborn
c) the sealing away of the Seven Shadows, Metallia's most powerful soldiers outside of Beryl herself
The Rainbow Crystals were prisons of EACH ONE of the Seven Shadows, and if they were meant to contain/seal something truly powerful, nothing could have "broken" the crystals-- only the power of Serenity reforming the Ginzuishou would have caused their prisons to break. Remember that the youma Zoisite awakened were not really the Seven Shadows, just a minor representation of them. The Seven Shadows were even MORE powerful than youma; think of it along the same lines as Chaos appearing as all the big bads (which ended up being small fry compared to Galaxia).
In a nutshell, that implies that Usagi (and Chibiusa, too) were always fighting with a fragment/shadow of the Ginzuishou within them-- a sort of "echo" that allowed the Crystal to find them again when necessary. This explains why when they absolutely needed it, they could call the Crystal out, transform into their Princess selves, etc-- instead of doing that all the time in battle, blasting the high hell out of youmas just for kicks.
* On top of that, if it's Usagi's Star Seed, how could she have lived at the same time as her mother, or Chibiusa, for that matter? Did Chibiusa ever wield the real Ginzuishou, or did she have a crystal of her own, the "Pink Crystal?"
* And what about the Heart Crystals? What purpose did they serve, exactly? Take them out, and the person becomes a soulless husk. Take their Star Seed out and they cease to have a physical form capable of fighting (in the senshi's case, they disintegrate). Take Usagi's Ginzuishou out and she dies.
* Who's got more control over the Ginzuishou, anyway? Sailor Moon in any of her forms (though the wands and her various attacks require the Ginzuishou to suck some of her lifeforce, hence its nature as a "parasitic" crystal, similar to the Holy Grail tiring her out with every use) or Queen/Princess Serenity? If the Ginzuishou is Usagi's star seed, then once she becomes Neo-Queen Serenity, the 'star seed' part of the Ginzuishou passes onto Chibiusa, and Neo-Queen Serenity is no longer a senshi-- she gave up those powers and can NO LONGER (ever again) transform. However, you can subscribe to the theory that it doesn't matter WHO holds the Ginzuishou; it will always feed the lifeforce of the people it's connected to. This explains why all the baddies who wanted the Ginzuishou realized they had to kill Sailor Moon/Chibi-Moon to get it; if they didn't, the Crystal wouldn't give them its full power.
* Is the Ginzuishou a "living" entity? All the baddies wanted to get ahold of it, but if the Crystal is at all linked to Usagi/Chibiusa/Queen Serenity, then the crystal would have rejected them outright, even if:
a) it had once been the prison of the Seven Shadows
b) it was weaker when split up into seven pieces, and as such, is not as strong as it once was back in the Silver Millennium, EVEN AFTER it reformed
c) Usagi and Co. were dead
If it IS a living entity of some sort, is it the physical manifestations of the souls of the Serenity predecessors? i.e. Queen Serenity's soul, sort of, lying dormant within Usagi, in order to guide the Rainbow Crystals back to her for purification and eventual reforming into the Ginzuishou... it would make sense, considering all the "mysterious coincidences" that allowed everyone to discover their "true pasts."
And now for something completely different... Canadian Sailor Moon fans, ATTENTION! (Yeah, you know who you are). How many of you have the Lunarock or Full Moon Collection CDs? I've just heard that the Canadian ones are different from the U.S. ones! Lemme know how/where/why, and maybe I can make an exchange of the tracks- I want to know what I'm missing out on!
By the way:

I know, I know, the last thing I need is to be in charge of ANOTHER community. So I'm going to start taking volunteers to help me mod the others (30kisses, ygo_lyricwheel, and betasquad). By the way,
mklutz, I made you a mod of
smrff, because you should have been from the get-go. ^^; If anyone else wants mod access (not like we post a whole lot on the comm. anyway-- I'd love to give it a nice layout, if anyone wants to help...) let me know!
Yu-Gi-Oh! MST is just what it sounds like-- a place where people who find those truly atrocious
ygo_badfics can take those badfics and riff (read: make fun of) them into space! There's plenty of ways to do it, and all of them are funny! But since MSTs aren't allowed on FFnet, why not have a community dedicated to them here on LiveJournal?
If you want some fabulous examples of MSTs (and like Harry Potter), then head over to Mistress Lizzie's domain. She's fabulous-- but you're forewarned, the stories she riffs are NC-17/smut fics.

Oh damn, she did it again. Yeah, and you know what, I BLAME IT ALL ON MAMONO!!!! This is a community where people can go to finish those insanely delicious oneshots that the original author either doesn't know how/doesn't want to finish. I suppose this applies a great deal to Mamono and I, but I know other authors are out there with oneshots that have driven the rest of us insane.
So go check it out, submit fics, and we'll get started!
Oh, and I can't wait until this fall! If you thought summer was going to be packed full of blockbusters, wait till Thanksgiving! OMG!!!!! THE LEGEND OF ZORRO!! *joyhappyjoy!* Antonio Banderas!! Catherine Zeta-Jones!! *squeals* (Speaking of Zorro, does anyone know what the name of the big action song they use in the trailer is? It's the same one they used for The Mask of Zorro, but despite checking the soundtrack listing on Amazon.com, I can't come up with a title for it. Anyone have any ideas? The "Zorro Theme" is just an instrumental version of "I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You," by Marc Anthony.)
