An Unusual Turn of Events
Jul. 20th, 2003 10:58 pmAh, a three day review is due, since I haven't said anything since Friday, and here we are, it's Sunday...
Mom hasn't been home. I mean, she's alive (as far as I know) but she's STILL at Gary's. Not that I mind. -.-;
FRIDAY: went to RTA. The expansion still takes some getting used to. The Initial D machines are always pack-crowded, and I still don't have a line card for it (unless I use my old defunct cards) or DDR. Only had $2 to my name, what with money being spent on the new Peach Girl manga (have yet to translate it completely, but three words sum it up: Oh. My. God.) and a crepe (yum). Spent them immediately playing ticket-games, like that bee-game. Of course, I'm not as good at it as some people, but I got a few tickets. Also found out that the ticket-blower machine cycles every five minutes for about 30 seconds, so it's free play for that time-- I got about 10 tickets from it in 15 minutes. =D
Jeremy demonstrated the all-new ticket-scanning thing they have hooked up-- quite cool. But hard to use if there's multiple people waving around their tickets or receipts, wanting Tootsie Rolls. He didn't spray me as incessantly with Windex (glass cleaner) as before-- but he did when Will told him to! Hidoi da yo! -.-; Well, Will got sprayed too, in his pants. =P I wonder if he even knew he was walking around with a big wet spot on his jeans most of the night...
Guess who spotted me after I sat down to read Battle Royale 2 (courtesy of Joemi, who was surprisingly there for once)?! Amber! And I got to meet the (in)famous Shilo. She wasn't what I expected/envisioned, but... ^_^ Wha'ever. Wandered around for a little bit; mostly watched people DDR. There was this guy that looked like a 19-year-old, much-taller version of Sean. Quite scary. Lots of tourists were trying out MAX2, this chubby butterball in particular. He did a bunch of light songs at first, so I figured the next time he went up, I'd take advantage of my broke-ness and ask if I could joint premium with him. *growl* When I DID, the brat put himself on Heavy! I asked if he was sure, and he was-- OMG! That brat totally duped me! *whine* Never even let me pick songs, so almost everything was 5-step or above, even on Light, and I had such a hard time with it. The last stage was "Dead End," I believe, which I failed miserably. Stupid brat! -.- He was pretending to be sucky, and then all of a sudden he's doing 8 and 9-step songs!
Oh, and when trying to find people, some huge black chick playing table hockey totally KICKED me in the shins! She was hitting the puck and throwing her leg up in the air so damn high, it was ridiculous! The pathway isn't all that arrow, but she was swinging up at a 45 degree angle or something-- it made it seem like a gauntlet, where you were lucky if you got through without breaking something! I kind of said "excuse me, watch who you're kicking," but she just kept playing, not even a sorry. My leg kinda hurts still... =P Oh, and earlier, I saw Lee Buzon, who used to be in Journalism my junior year. We didn't get along well, but it was still cool seeing him again- he was wearing his Wash sweater! =D EAGLE PRYDE! =D
Lots of people there that night, even though it wasn't a Bemani Night. Still, being broke at an arcade is no fun at all. I think around 9ish, Amber, Shilo, Grace, Geroge, Fred and myself headed out to In-N-Out. It was pretty packed, but Hooters had lines everywhere. Luckily, I managed to secure us a seat at a table near the door, and some fat, ugly guy sat down across from me while I read my newspaper. *shudder* Eew, asked me if I was alone. I said the table was going to be packed, there'd be 6 people total. He says "You're cuter than all of them." I cracked a wry (read: disgusted) grin, and said "You don't even know who they are." First instinct, call SOMEONE over here! Couldn't find everyone in line, but they were getting their drinks-- Amber was so nice, she got me a burger and a drink! =D YUMM~~ So the ugly guy went away. Wasn't a cheeseburger though, but I took it to the counter, and this nice waiter dude put cheese and onions on, free of charge! =D I still got the Sweet Charm! ^.~
Figured it was highly unlikely at that point that Mom'd give me money to go to the movies with Joemi (to see LXG before he jetted off to Hawaii) the next day, so I'd stay at Amber's-- which I hadn't done in a while, and was looking forward to. But Shilo and Amber had left laundry AT the laundromat, and feared the Parental Wrath, so Grace (in George's $30K Honda, complete with GPS and surround sound stereo system with 5 disc changer!) drove us to the Krispy Kreme in Daly City. She's a damn good driver, for the record-- and she did not pay me to say that. =D But she's still a normal driver, you know, not like Grandma slow or anything. =D Krispy Kreme had a drive through (In-N-Out's drive through line was HELLA LONG!) so we got some donuts-- though you really shouldn't call them donuts if they don't have holes in them... Anyway, so Amber and I got raspberry filled, Shilo passed, and Grace and George got Apple-Cinnamon filled. OMG, I am IN LOVE! First time I had a filled donut, and it was DEEEE-LICIOUS! And it being raspberry just made it 20,000,000x better! =D So now if you want to give me something nice, give me 88 cents and send me to a Krispy Kreme. =)
Went to Amber's house after that... the GPS is funny. o_O Cool, but funny. They had a lot of good music, too. Lessee, Amber's mom wasn't home yet, so we chilled in Santos' room for a while. *scratches head* Went to Amber's room too, got sleeping bags out and the like. I discovered the book "The Secret Life of Guys," which explains all these little quirks and niches about guys that girls are so curious to know. Strikes me as pretty accurate, too. Either that judgement is based on experience with guys, or... who knows, maybe I was a guy in a past life? Hehe, could be why I'm pretty crude, anti-skirt, bad at makin' myself up, lover of sports and competition, and... yeah. =D
Was reading that most of the time, while Santos and his friend Andy played various games, like Halo and Crash Bandicoot racing (I suck at go-cart games! I can only race the real ones!). Santos' room, for the record, 0wnZ! It's so... glowy! I want stars all over my room... He's even got a Predator statuette! And SOOOO MANY DVDs! o_o Amber and I talked some, and eventually everyone went to bed. I kept waking up to various people snoring, which sucked, but... what can you do, really? ^^; Around 11am, Grace woke George up and they left-- unfortunately, leaving us to roll up their sleeping bags. -.- Oh well. We slept a bit longer, but eventually everyone had to get up, since Amber et. al. were going to a party. Had generic Frosted Flakes, but I think Miss Kitty finished them off for me. Santos and Andy were playing Megaman on the compie! =D
Got a ride to the 14 stop, and told Amber about today... going to Land's End, plan, that is. She never called today, which I guess is okay, since things worked out on the plus side with Jonathan. ^_^ I was so freaked out he wouldn't call me, that'd he'd forget, or that something's happened to him! *sigh* Anywho, yesterday, came home, took a nice, well-deserved bath... Joemi called while I was in there, and we arranged for me to go to Lake Merritt and meet him to see LXG. Mom was in a good enough mood to give me $. =D Played DDR --$2 for 5 stages, which wore me out, and I failed the final stage, being pressed for time (and sucking at Air, anyway). LXG was good, previews were pretty lousy (Freddy vs. Jason! UBER DUMB!) ... Shane West didn't have such a huge part, and unless you were pretty literary-savvy, a lot of the references wouldn't have made sense. But the thing was, I expected Sean Connery's character, Allan Quartermain, to "summon" his allies from books-- but they were just there. And he didn't treat them like characters from books, or characters from the ancient past, they were run of the mill people that had just shown up. o_O Of them all, Dorian Gray and Ms. Harker, Vampiress, were my favorites. Pretty confusing scenes though, especially with Harker, since her hair kept curling and uncurling itself between takes. -.-; And, like I said, you have to have read most, if not all, of the books referenced for it to make much sense. They are:
-Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
-Dracula
-The Portrait of Dorian Gray
-Sherlock Holmes
-The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
-20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
-Memoirs of an Invisible Man (The Invisible Man)
Most of them are either required school reading or literary classics... still, I was lost on some of the references, so you are hereby forewarned.
Kept trying to go back to sleep today, but I guess after going to bed at 10:30, didn't need any more sleep. Didn't dream of Michelle, even though I'd sat at the piano and lit a candle, just talking to her. Felt good to let a bunch of emotions get out... and I didn't feel like a baby, really, because no one was there to criticize. Funny thing was, the lights flickered, even though the candle flame didn't move. Which I thought was spooky, and maybe a sign. Maybe... You know what I did dream of, though? Lonnie with short hair. Very unnerving. o_O Would never happen, either.
A couple of random ideas for "Battle Royale" fics, but where would I post them? Archive Obscura is an option, once I get it up-- and I'll look for other BR sites tonight, when I'm done with the PG translatin', email, etc. Uploaded Part 4 of "Dream a Dream" to FFnet already-- yay! I hope it's well-recieved. =) I want to get more reviews for DD than I did for Only 16... 80 reviews. ^^;; The most I've ever gotten, too. *sniff*
Have to go to the Container Store and get some supplies for making Brooke's wedding shower gift-- it (along with Jill's b-day party down in LA) are this Saturday! EEK! WHAT'LL I WEAR!? OMG! o_O I still don't know if I'm joining Mom in LA shortly after the shower, to go to Jill's party, but if I am, it's short notice at this point, and I don't know how I'd get there (plane, train, bus...?) Easiest (and most expensive, unfortunately) would be airplane, since now Bart (near downtown, where the shower is) runs to SFO in one shot. XD But SFO doesn't go to Burbank... which is closest to Northridge/Reseda/whatever it's called, where Jill lives. Only LAX, but I haven't been there in a while! =D
Yeah, okay, so today. Jonathan called after Harry... (*first* person that called was Harry. To be frank, NOT THE GUY I WAS HOPING FOR!) Harry wanted to know when I'd give him the rest of Initial D back-- told him the truth-- past week has been rough for me, and OH YEAH, today is the 7 year anniversarry of my sister's death, I'M NOT IN THE MOOD FOR WATCHING ANIME! -.- Still not, not really, anyway. So, one more season or so to go, give or take a disc. Okay, so Jonathan and I arranged for him to come over at 2 o'clock, a half hour. Got dressed, hopped online to check more email. Quit that once he came over. We left pretty much immediately. Aside from an assortment of bugbites, he was all in one piece. And no, his trip wasn't the 30 mile backpacking, that's NEXT WEEK! -.-; He was camping again, and he got to do all this cool archery and horseback riding stuff. -.- I want to go to a camp like that! I miss going to camps... Ocean Song was so fun! And I wanna go camping, too!
Anyway, took the 38 to 33rd Ave (bought Starburst at 7-11! Apparently Jonathan *had* succeeded in unwrapping one with his tongue-- but he said -blushing and looking away, mind you- he made sure it was when I wasn't looking! ^_^ Hee hee.) but walked, since the 18 is usually so slow in coming. Commented on things like golfers, sports, and climbing trees... and tried to use the crappy tourist map to find out way to Calmino Del Mar. It's a trail, it turns out, and we did finally find it. I got us lost on a few side trails, lots of sliding and jean-dirtying done, but, to make a long story short (too late) I think we made it there. To the real Land's End this time, not some weird fake place, like last time. Jonathan was pretty close to the edge, so I told him to please back behind me-- thankfully he didn't ask questions, and was okay with it. I just get scared so easy around places like that. Lots of mumbling done-- "I'm stubborn, but I'm not reckless; I'm cautious, but not boring." etc. Finally took out my Rosemary- a fresh spring and the infused "potion" ones, and tried to conjure up happy memories of Michelle. It was really hard to do, which made me even sadder... I find it hard to remember really happy times with her, times that were just her and me, times that I'll "never forget." When the 1996 earthquake knocked out the power all over the state, I remember being so distraught over losing Michelle's voice on the answering machine. I still can't remember it all.
Anyway, took me a while. Tried not to be all bawly and everything, but I was glad Jonathan was there. Silent support, really, which is what I needed. He helped me make nasty climbs, too- we went slip-sliding all over the place, I guess I'm just lucky I didn't get sunburned, bug-bittten, or poison-oaked. So, we stayed at LE for a while, and I finally let the Rosemary go. Parting words were ones that made the best sense to me. "Merry Meet, and Merry Part, Until We Merry Meet Again." It's something you say to fellow Wiccans, or just people when you want them to know, "Thanks for coming, I'm glad you were here. Get back home safe, and stay happy until we see one another again." And it works for me and Michelle, no matter what's beyond, or what's not. Whether she reincarnated, or there's a Heaven, or a Summerland, or what. And Merry was my old nickname, from a long, long, time ago. So to Michelle, I said that we'd parted "merrily" and met "merrily," but we will meet again-- "merrily." =) I do feel some sense of release. Something, anyway.
Jonathan and I headed back down to Safeway, got ourselves some Snapples and decided to go to my house for Grilled Cheeses. I still got my old cooking flair, cuz I whipped up a really good one for him, and a pretty good one for myself. I read the North City Secret Files to him, and it was cool, because Jonathan sounded like he was into it, asking questions and all. Played SO2 for a while, told him I beat the Master Chef competition. Wanted to show him, too, but something weird happened-- my opponent was PUFFY! Yarma called her "Johnny Come-Lately Cooking Demon, Puffy!" But I mean, she's Puffy, from the Cave of Trials! Said she wanted to settle a "two year old grudge," to which Rena was confused-- but I couldn't beat her. Besides, it was a Meat Battle... which Rena is not so hot with. Very freaky-- I wonder what will happen if I do (can I!?) beat her...? Same thing as other opponents? Anyway, tried to play with Noel, but he was too low to win. Used Orchestra/Metalwork to discover a new talent for him though, to up his Kitchen Knife skill. Everyone seriously needs to train up for the CoT, but where can we go!?
Jonathan left around 9ish, but we had fun. ^_^ I'll hopefully see him tomorrow. Too bad I don't have Battle Royale, cuz I have a feeling he'd love to watch that. Damnit Aaron, why weren't you there on Friday like you said you would be!? I paid you $3! YOU OWE ME NOW!
Ah, anyway, translating the PG16 now. I think I want a bowl of Kix.
Mom hasn't been home. I mean, she's alive (as far as I know) but she's STILL at Gary's. Not that I mind. -.-;
