1 - I saw nothing whatsoever on your journal to indicate who you are or what your relation [to me] was. I noticed we had all of 2 mutual friends, Helen and Grace, and that was it. It told me nothing.

2 - Using words like "anime" and "manga" is not butchering the Japanese language or the culture- they are part of it just as much as "burger" and "fries" are part of the "American" culture. I know how to pronounce them too (I don't say "cartoons" and "comic books" in reference to them; I find them completely different things.)

Again, stop butchering the English language by neglecting punctuation and using excuses for not providing proof. Either do it or don't.

I know lots of "average Americans" and some not so average. They have presumptions about Japanese culture that make even me laugh. Many of the people on the tour were the same, in various ways. The whole reason why we went in the first place was to further our understanding of the people and the culture, not to be accused of being elitist or even more blinded.

My views on the Japanese culture are based on much more than anime and manga. Not only have I read countless books and spoken to hundreds of people, but I've BEEN there, I've immersed myself in it. I've studied it almost religiously. I plan to continue on doing so.

True, I was very upset when I initially replied and no, I don't know anything about you as a boyfriend or friend or otherwise, but I've known Joe for a long time, and your initial attitude gave me the presumption that you were the sort of rash critical type that makes for a bad influence on other people. I care for Joe deeply, and I would hate to see him doubt himself and his actions because someone was being unfairly cruel to him. I don't know whether you do this or not, but I'll say this: my first impression of you was very bad. Maybe you don't care one way or the other, but bring my friends into the mix, and it becomes personal business.

If you're saying that the current SN you're on is on my FL, at least come forward and say so in order that I may de-friend you immediately. I don't like your attitude, and frankly I have no interest or desire to share my life or read about yours with someone so unnecessarily mean.

My Japan posts were intended as being purely reflective, talking about my experiences and nothing more. I made no generalizations about the Japanese people or culture.

I said ENGLISH language, not Japanese. It is butchering the English language because the English language has 100% equivalents of these words, yet you still choose to use the Japanese words. Now, one can argue that "well Japanese Manga are different than comics and Japanese Anime are different than cartoons". Which is actually complete and utter bull shit. Bread is bread whether or not it comes from Japan or America. Rice is Rice whether or not it comes for Vietnam or Germany. So why would you use a Japanese word in English speech when there is more than an English equivalent for it?

There are plenty of words in this oh-so-rock solid language that have been adapted from other cultures. An example you ask? 'Angst.' It's a German word with a %100 English counter-part: Fear.

Now, would it seem odd to read a book in the genre of 'fear?' The word was assimilated into the language and is accepted by many as an English word, despite it being a true German word.

There are many other examples of this if you look around you. I believe 'anime' and 'manga' qualify as such words. Their popularity has grown to a scale that the terms have been brought into the language.

The English language is always adapting. Like the word 'ain't'-- it was used so commonly it's been accepted.

I don't see what the point of this criticism is, especially when it's merely someone's opinion. As I see from this, your personality resembles that of a troll, so she was not at fault by using the term.
