This is what happens when you clean!
So I've had the strange urge to clean, now that
a) my jaw isn't hurting SO bad... I even managed to eat a WAFFLE for breakfast this morning (albeit covered in syrup)
b) I beat FFX for the first time last night... there's no New Game+, it seems, so I can go back to my last save and get Everything Done Into the Ground (which means attempting to beat some of the monsters from the arena, getting Kimahri and Wakka's Ultimate Weapons... even though technically I can customize some existing ones to be ass-kicking, etc.) For the record --and I'm not ashamed to admit it-- I cried my eyes out. Thank god for FFX-2, really.
Anyway, so I'm trying to clean up a box of mine so I have a more singular, organized space to put my school supplies for the upcoming semester. In cleaning out one of my many boxes of "scrapbook stuff" (because I'm general like that), I found an old scrap of paper from a Whole Foods (I think) back in Petaluma, when I lived there with Dad WAY THE HELL BACK WHEN. I wandered into the eclectic bath soaps section, which includes incense and the like... and there was one section on planetary symbols... don't ask me a) how I remember all this stuff or b) why it was organized that way, it just was.
Anyway, I wrote down all the symbols on this scrap of paper... and lo and behold, one of them is that elusive symbol I mentioned ages ago when I found some of that magnificent Sailor Moon fanart over on Sailor Ida's Fanart Gallery! (SailorGalleries.com, for those who don't remember). I didn't remember where Sailor "Persephone's" symbol came from... and despite constant searching, I couldn't find it. Maybe it, like the old Pluto symbol, is simply retired! But now I'm rest assured in knowing I wasn't being delirious in thinking I'd seen it before!

On my LiveJournal scrapbook, the description goes into what each of the symbols are, but here they are repeated, anyway:
1: Moon
2: Mercury (the planetary symbol, not the one used in alchemy)
3: Mars (the arrow can point in various directions, if not diagonally to the right, then straight down is also common)
4: Jupiter
5: Venus
6: Sun
7: Earth (which does not rule over any astrological sign; for those that remember the original context of the previous post, Mamoru is the guardian/senshi of Earth, but his astrological symbol is Leo, ruled by the Sun. And yet Sailor Galaxia possesses the Sun's Sailor Crystal, the Sapphire Crystal. Odd, ne?) No. 13 is also a variation of Earth.
8: Uranus, both variations. The left one is more modern/common. Notice the older symbol is a fusion between Mars and the Sun.
9: Neptune, based off the Roman god's trident. Many variations of this have points on the ends.
10: Pluto. Like Uranus, it has two variations, a newer, common one, and an older one. The older one resembles Mercury. Before Pluto was discovered, Mars ruled over Scorpio, Pluto's astrological sign.
11: The elusive Persephone symbol, both variants. Apparently the rightmost one is more common, though, and is used as a variant "peace" symbol. It resembles Mars and Venus in a way, and to look at it literally would be to envision a woman: welcoming, encircling arms with the V-point of the arrow representing her vaginal area.
12: Vulcan. Considered Earth's twin, the invisible other-half. Venus was also considered Earth's sister planet, but the relationship between Earth and the mythological Vulcan was a bit different.
13: Another variation of Earth. Notice how it's just an inverted Venus sigil. See above.
14: Aries, the astrological sign of Mars.
15: Taurus, ruled by Venus. In the Sailor Moon universe, there is no Sailor Senshi that has this as their birth sign. Sailor Venus is a Libra, the other sign ruled by Venus. Venus and Mercury are the only two current planets (and Pluto is still a DWARF planet, so it counts!) that rule over two signs.
16: Gemini, the first Mercury sign of the zodiac. The sign of the twins, hence the reason why it looks like a Roman numeral 2. Sailor Mercury is a Virgo, though. But there was a first-season enemy made of the constellation of Gemini that combated the Sailor Senshi's powers by replicating them exactly-- one replicated Mars' the other replicated Mercury's. Only by combining powers with Moon could they defeat the enemy.
17: Cancer, ruler of the Moon.
18: Leo, the Sun sign. Note that there is no Earth sign, and Mamoru would be "Sailor Earth" if he was literally a Sailor Senshi (and not just a planetary guardian in posession of a "sailor crystal," a name which is probably inaccurate, given the distribution). Because Earth doesn't rule over any astrological signs, he's a Leo, ruled over by the Sun. Sailor Galaxia stole his Sailor Crystal even though she possessed the true Sun Crystal, also known as the Sapphire Crystal. (Sapphires, by the way, are the gemstones of those born in SEPTEMBER, aka Libra)
19: Virgo, the second sign of Mercury.
20: Libra, the second sign of Venus.
21: Scorpio, the sign of Pluto. Formerly ruled by Mars.
22: Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter.
23: Capricorn, ruled by Saturn.
24: Pisces, ruled by Neptune. Formerly ruled by Jupiter.
25: Aquarius, ruled by Uranus. Formerly ruled by Saturn.
Now I'm relieved, because it's digitally inscribed! I wasn't (that) crazy!
