From one serious type to another (if my mother tells me to smile more often ONE MORE TIME . . . ), I wouldn't let others get ya down. There is nothing wrong with having a DIFFERENT sense of humor (I know for a fact that you have a very sharp brand of humor so I don't buy the "lacking" thing ^_~). There is no set of guidelines as to what constitutes funny. Certainly, there are things the so-called majority might get a chuckle from, but a sense of humor is just that: a sense. Just like some have a very tuned sense of smell or seem more sensitive to touch than others, so too our wiring for humor varies. Don't let others tell you you should be a certain way just because they are a certain way. Let them know you want to be respected as is. On the same token, respect that other people will be who they are. Your grandfather is just concerned for you and wants what's best for you. I think he just doesn't want you to give yourself a heart attack at a young age ^_~ If it really bothers you, talk to him about it. If he doesn't want to amend his opinion, grit your teeth and bear it.
And for the record, I think you'll do fine in "the real world." Just remember this little bit of wisdom (of which I am SO not the author) - don't sweat the big things, until you've taken care of the small things. *huggles*
Seriously . . .
