I really, really hate thieves, of pretty much any kind. Except MAYBE the fictional ones, and those only rarely.

Several talented Sailor Moon fanartists have had their work stolen by this person on DeviantART. I've already begun reporting the Deviations, but I could use your help locating the original artists of many more of these works--I honestly don't believe very many of this user's deviations are theirs at all, and if you happen to recognize another artist's work in this person's gallery, I'd appreciate you either reporting the deviation or supplying me with a link to the original art so I can.

One such artist is Alan Guiterrez (stardriv on DA), and what I find especially laughable is that some of the "Artist's Comments" for the stolen paintings (which Alan did as a commission and charged $2400 for the whole series, so some diehard fan is considerably less wealthy after getting these paintings and deserves to have them indicated as FOR HER BY HIM on HIS terms) try to "credit" Alan by a) spelling his name wrong and b) not even bothering to link to a site where his work can be found, such as...uh, his DeviantART account?

Now, I'm not the biggest DA fan in the world, since they've got a pretty lousy policy on fanart as it is, and don't tend to consider Senshi edits as anything but "Scraps," but that's a post for a whole other day and time.

Your help is appreciated, Sailor Moon fans and artists!

Royal Straight Flush
by ~ the-sweet on deviant ART

Hm, DeviantART's hookup to LiveJournal doesn't seem to be up-to-date. Or maybe it's my Firefox 3.5 beta, which makes some things fabulous and other things annoying as all heck (cookie leakage and this "tag stripping"). Anyway.

Presenting, my latest and thus far possibly greatest Fan (Otaku) Senshi creation! I don't know how this originally got into my head, but once there, it got stick until I finally slapped it together the day before yesterday. The only reason why I'm sharing it here is because it's not merely a heavily-Photoshopped Sailor X v2.10 generator image, it's a plot bunny in the making.

Artist's Notes )

I don't know if they'd actually be "Sailor Heart" and "Sailor Club" and so forth, but that is the general theme going on here. Also, I'm pretty sure Sailor Kakyuu's cards weren't even playing cards, but those "Magic: The Gathering"-type cards, but her attack *IS* "Royal Straight Flush" (if I'm not mistaken), and you can't get a Royal Straight Flush with MTG cards! Plus, there's probably a way to work that element into the would-be story for more dramatic purposes! Bwaha.

I wish I could have done a better job with Club's lace skirt. And maybe I should have done more with the gradient effects, but I knew I wanted them all to have similar Super-style uniforms (in terms of number of skirts and such), so I didn't want to give them gradient effects on that. Barring doing some crazy stuff with the hair (and I totally could have! Sailor California could probably benefit from such a re-do), that left the shoes to play with, which is why Heart and Spade have the gradient-effect shoes. (I wouldn't have done it with the suits themselves, since the background on standard playing cards is white.)

I don't think I've written any drama/action fics for the SM universe for some time, let alone one starring otaku senshi. If I wrote this, it would (fortunately or unfortunately), be epic. Gaaah. (Is it ironic that I own the Yu-Gi-Oh! Oneshot C2 on FFnet? I mean SERIOUSLY. ONESHOTS? ME!?)

Ah, another Ed Hardy sale! The discounted prices at ideeli are actually quite reasonable, but it's for two things I'd never use/wear: purses and a scarf!

Of course, upon graduating I assume I'm going to have to alter my wardrobe a bit to fit in with the so-called "real world," and maybe then I'll get into things like accessorizing with scarves, but until then I'll just stare at the beautiful art that is the Ed Hardy line and imagine a day when something I'll actually use/wear will come out (without making me look like a total conformist!?).

(That said, I saw a clip of Zac Efron's "17 Again" with him dressed ENTIRELY in Ed Hardy, and telling his friend-playing-father that "Kevin Federline wore this!" as if that was supposed to make it "cool" to wear in a high school. But yeah, it's K-Fed... So now it makes me wince to think of someone showing off "too much" Ed Hardy.)

Keyword Manager for iPhoto (by Bullstorm) has finally been updated to 1.5! This means it's compatible with iPhoto '09. Huzzah! I already downloaded and installed mine; since I'd purchased a previous version, the upgrade was free (I think). Another way of getting organized: labeling all my pictures with metadata tags!

I added a few old entries (some of them Friends Locked, because let's be honest here: I was stupid not having protections on my old blog back in the day) from my old Blue Reflections blog, back when it was powered by Greymatter and on the rosedreams.org domain. I'm working my way through 2002, and it's sadly amusing, the kind of stuff I wrote. I've got a lot more to go before I'm all "caught up," though.

Finally signed up at Ping.fm (thanks to an article on helpful websites on GeekSugar). As I was going through the various websites/networks to add, I was surprised at a) how many I'm on and b) how many I'm not on. I guess there's something to be said for simplicity: I mean, what's the point of being on too many of the same site? (That sounds lame. I'm on every big name social networking site because of the fact that, the more places you are, the easier it is to find you--for better or for worse!)

Let's see, my networks are: Twitter, Facebook, AIM, GTalk, MySpace, LinkedIn, FriendFeed, LJ (duh), Delicious, Friendster, and Yahoo 360. Hey, that's actually not that many! And some of them (e.g. Facebook and LiveJournal; FriendFeed and... well, everything) are already connected, which gives me the mental image of playing cat's cradle with something very sticky.

Finally had my appointment at the Klotz Student Health Center dental clinic-- they kept having to reschedule my appointment! I got worked on by a student intern today, but everything looks/feels fine; I'm just hoping the numbness on the entire lower right-hand side of my face goes away soon.

As I was leaving the Health Center, they were showing "Armageddon" on DVD. I thought it actually looked cool, and, shockingly enough, I've never seen it. So that's to be added to my list of movies to see (both on DVD and in theatres). I also want to see "17 Again" and still "Fast & Furious" as well as "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and probably "The Soloist" (even if Jamie Foxx is a touch-and-go kind of guy; sometimes I think he's a great actor, other times I think he's a bizarre, if downright rude man).

I also decided to shift gears on my as-yet-unwritten submission for [livejournal.com profile] sm_fanswap. I was originally going to do this dark, political piece, but I think I'm going to shift that to the back burner and work on an older idea that still fits the requirements for the swap. Of course, I can't say more.... :X

DeviantART finally has gotten its act together-- or at least part of it. I don't know if there have been any HUGE changes in policy or significant changes in management (such as firing the douches that make dA look like it was being run by a bunch of bigoted idiots), but there is a new category for doll edits, which are one of my primary forms of fanart submissions. It's nice to be recognized! I still disagree with their policy that they should be "Scraps," because they say that they're prepackaged and there's no effort involved. Uh, excuse me, the dolls are a collaborative effort! On top of that, a lot of the ones I post are heavily modified in Photoshop, and I think the hours spent count as EFFORT. That said, I have put most of the dolls into the new category, but some of them won't go in, supposedly because the only filetype allowed is GIF. WTF, dA!? Since when are PNGs a bad file type for dolls? Not every dollmaker uses GIF files, and on top of that, if we DO "tool" the dolls ourselves, we should be able to save the resulting file however we like! GRR!

Do any Mac users have a recommendation for a good time-tracking utility? Specifically, I'd like something that integrates with iCal so I can keep track of how much I should make from the hours I spend at work. If I ever did freelancing or consultation stuff (for web design or just general tech support), it'd be nice if this tool had an invoicing feature, too. I've heard of several, but I want to know if anyone on this FL actually HAS one and used it, and of course, liked it.

Ah, so much to do, so little time.

1 - "Eagle Eye" kicks "Body of Lies" ass. Also: Billy Bob Thornton should forever be an action hero. I like him much better that way.

2 - CSI: Season 1 for $20! Target rocks! Now all I need are 7 friends to get me seasons 2-8 on DVD for X-mas/Hanukkah presents (for hopefully that same price and not the rip-off price of $46.95 like they were over at Borders). Also lovely: CSI:NY. I loves me some Mac and Stella.

3 - Heh, my new Nancy Drew game takes place in San Francisco. Half the street names are wrong, but it's funny anyway.

4 - I suck at Diner Dash. Seriously, I can't make it past Level 6 on "Flo on the Go," or Level 5 in "Diner Dash 2."

5 - Thinking about leaving DeviantART. It's seriously starting to suck.

6 - Coming someday in the not-too-distant future: "Astrology, Blood Types, and Yu-Gi-Oh! - Ryuuji Otogi." I don't have my Mystical Cards or EZ-Astrology-Report book here in SF, but I can make do without it. :P

7 - Working on WikiFic and dealing with idiots (who also happen to be minor vandals.) Teh fun!

8 - In just two days of being on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Top 50, "Blue Eyes and Apricots" has soared from #299 on the ranks to #20! WOW! Now I seriously need to update it. I've actually thought of a way to replace the Fanart section, too. What I can't do is make up my mind about the style of the new layout-- dark and autumny, or light and... colorful?

9 - After playing Nancy Drew and reading Skip Beat! #14, I got to thinking that it'd be funny if Kyoko had to do some sleuthing at LME. Moko, of course, would get dragged into it, and there'd be humor (c/o Yashiro and Lory and Kyoko's own antics), potential angst and drama (because it ain't Skip Beat! without Ren and Sho), and maybe even some Vie Ghoul smashing!

10 - I reserved "Star Ocean: First Departure" for the PSP, but since I don't want to buy an Entertainment Pack with the new PSP-3000 and a stupid game I'll never play and a Memory Card I don't need, I think I'll end up waiting until November before buying a standalone PSP-3000. It's agonizing to wait that long when I'll finally have the game in my hands come the 21st, but if I've waited this long, I can wait another month or so.

Remember how, I think no more than a few weeks ago, one of my deviations got deleted from DA? I suspected that it was because I put my name to a petition saying that several users were getting abused by DA "staff members" who claimed we were pedophiles for wanting or appreciating illustrated art of fictional characters in sexual or other graphic situations. This is DA, where photographic pr0n or near-pr0n is just fine and dandy, but an image of Harry Potter getting it on with Ginny Weasley isn't allowed, even though by the end of canon, he is perfectly adult and therefore there's no issue with any minors (fictional or otherwise) being "harmed" by putting them in that (illustrated) scenario?

I don't know if that's really the case, but DA finally responded to the note I sent them asking about why it was deleted. The one update claimed that it was due to Art Theft/No Permission, even though I reiterated that I HAD permission from Diana Hold/Sailor Xv2 and gave credit back to both her DA account and website, but I'm not sure if there's anything I can say or do in response to this:

The logs indicate that the artwork was an edit of a doll created on a doll generator. Generated dolls may be submitted to your scraps only, however, since this is an edit it is infringing upon the generator's owner's copyright.

I could possibly upload it into my scraps, but I worked damn hard on that-- it's NOT a scrap! Plus, hundreds of other users, thousands of other deviations are just like this! Besides, what qualifies a piece using a "generated doll" base over a "real" deviation? Does it have to involve intense Photoshopping? I refuse NOT to give credit on the virtue that it might seem like my own work, because it's not, and I'm NOT a thief. But Diana gave users permission to use her generator to create our own senshi-- some of them just flat out, direct from the program, others severely edited before seeing the "light" of DA. So I have to ask: why this one deviation (and not more in my gallery) and why just me (from what I've heard)?

WTF mates, wtf?

WTF, DeviantART?

I don't want to smell conspiracy where there is none, but only a few days after I gave [livejournal.com profile] cyperian my name down for a list of Deviants who find it offensive and harassing that one of the Staff at DA called us all pedophiles (it's a long story, but I'm thinking [livejournal.com profile] cyperian's journal's got a better recap of the details than I could ever give), for the very first time, one of my deviations is flagged as being a copyright violation.

Um... whut?

It was one of "Sailor Nautilus." As far as I know, I gave all the proper credit to Sailor Xv2 (aka Diana Hold, the creator of the Sailor X v2.10 KiSS doll that I used for the base). Maybe they flagged me on forgetting to give credit to Naoko Takeuchi, et. al.? That seems a bit ridiculous, but Sailor Nautilus isn't HER work, it's my original work, based off her "Sailor" theme and idea. You know me, I'll drop a line to Naoko where credit's due, but to flag a deviation and then delete it within the span of a few hours, not even notifying me (Deviant Notes don't get CC'd to email addressees, which I find STUPID) to give me a chance? Unfair, yo!

I wrote to the Help Desk already and hope they'll get back to me and restore the art, but if not, I'll reupload it and make sure I give all the proper credits. I'd rather my whole DA account not get into trouble, so I might need to go through my whole (small) gallery, but this just seems... so sudden and unfair. Why me, why now, why THAT particular art?

*shrug* I'm confused more than angry. (Still don't remember the name of that song. I try listening to stuff to see if I can pinpoint it, but then I only get more confused with other melodies in my head. Should I try and record it the next time it pops into my head, so maybe someone can help me ID it that way?)

So, I was checking out DeviantArt activity and saw someone added one of my images to a collection. I checked out the rest of the collection and then got to thinking, "Damn, I've actually designed a lot of Otaku Senshi over the years, I just haven't touched up and scanned their images to upload." Usually my default action then is to create a mock-up in the most up-to-date KiSS doll generator, Sailor X v2.10. It's fun! But not so much when I can't remember what one of my Otaku Senshi looks like, only her backstory.

As many people on this FL may know, my favorite season of the Sailor Moon anime is R. I loves me some angst. It's funny how, back when I first started writing fic, I thought I could never write TAFF (Twisted and Fuzzy Feelings, aka Romance + Angst/Drama). Now it's practically ALL I write.

And they called her Trinity! )

I also found out that I have sketches lying around of...
* Sailor Mirage and her best friend thought-dead, Sailor Lotus
* The Neo Sailor Senshi (an old term now, but a new term when I first came up with what was going to be a webcomic), who look like Senshi in Trek uniforms
* Sailor Cascadia
* Sailor Star Beam and her friends, Sailor Star Sparkle, Sailor Star Blaze, and Sailor Star Crystal (Team Mary-Sue)
* Sailor Nautica (not related to Sailor Nautilus, the one I just posted a DeviantART mock-up of)
* Apsu and Sin from the "Another Story" RPG, plus part of a Radina and a tilted Verna
* Old, old sketches of the Senshi in various outfits I based off ones I saw in a Barbie collectible magazine
* A halfway decent sketch of Usagi/Serenity in a dress covered with butterflies
* A sketch of most of the Senshi in their "Quicksilver"/Neo Senshi uniforms (Mars doesn't have a right hand for some reason; I suck at drawing hands)
AND a bunch of other random drawings, like a zoned-out Mitsuki from Full Moon o Sagashite, some ass-kicking Akanes from Ranma 1/2, a few Hitomis from Escaflowne, a bunch of Téas from WDKY's early planning stages (I went a little crazy with glitter pens there), and even a series of Ranma characters through time, e.g. Shampoo's ancestors, the original "drowned girl" that was the basis for the Nyannichuan, a Tendou girl who resembled Kasumi but was an ass-kicker, etc.

I'm halfway tempted to scan and maybe touch up some of them so I can upload them to DA so my account doesn't look like it's all Sailor Xv2 stuff. :P Thoughts?

Okay, so this Dear Diary layout simply isn't doing it for me. I've tried adding customizations, tweaking the layers, anything, everything, but the 4 simple things I wanted to change are apparently un-tweakable or invisible or written in Greek.

[livejournal.com profile] mklutz, didn't you do free layouts for Laz? *puppy eyes* If not, anyone want to recommend me to some places with layouts-- preferably with mostly-hassle free setup? (Free is always best, too, considering I already paid $150 for the damn Permanent Account). So far, I haven't found any pre-made ones I like-- mainly because most of them claim to be layouts when all they are is a simple user icon, a header image, and some color adjustments. THAT, anyone could do with little to no code over riding. I'm talking about full-fledged layouts with CSS and DIV HTML (which I have yet to understand). And what if I have a nice layout that I want to use-- how do I convert it for use to LJ? Come on people, help me out here? *wails* I'm a lost l'il kitty...

In a nutshell:
* Where to get pre-made LJ layouts (code and images)
* Where to get instructions on converting existing layouts to livejournal
* Where to get instructions on how to make your own layouts (code and images) for LJ, whether S1 or S2.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] shadow_reality: YOU. GO HERE. NOW. Thank me later. :)

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] guardian_kysra, how do you use Deviant Art? I'm a bit lost with all the buttons and areas and... well, help? Anyone?

I'm kind of bored and lost and feeling rather uncreative right now --be it fics, layouts, or even icons. ;_; Alas! Tomorrow I get to go B2S shopping. Now I oughta clean my room. :P
